A Jojo's Love Story

Summary:

With an interest in Japanese culture, you beg your parents to let you go to Japan, and to your luck, they agree, but under one condition: you go to a small town called Morioh and live with the Higashikatas for that year's visit as an exchange student. What do you then when you realise that Josuke Higashikata is nothing but a trouble magnet and you, for some odd reason, find yourself enamoured by him?

This Stand name is from the song 'Lady Sunshine' by Anri.

Lady Sunshine is also a cocktail. This Stand can precisely stab its opponent or slash or somehow injure the enemy with its sword and once it does, the alcohol that is dripping from the sword will make its way into the enemy's system and get them drunk. It makes the opponent irrational. If the opponent has a high tolerance to alcohol they have to be hit multiple times, of course, similar to how even someone with a high alcohol tolerance would eventually get wasted the more they drank. The range of this is only 3 meters. (9.10ft)

Stuff you wear with your Uniform: only there to match your stand, so if you don't like it you can imagine something else. 👌

Chapter 2: Josuke Is Weird

Chapter Text

Japanese- Basic
ThoughtsItalics

The loud rumbling of train tracks drowned out the constant chatter of people on the platform. The train approached it's stop, and a group of people started pouring out like a herd of sheep. As you stared out into nothing, feeling the sun on your skin, you heard frantic footsteps rapidly approaching, and a familiar soft voice called out to you.

A woman in a purple summer dress with chin-length black hair pulled you into a hug. You stumbled back a bit before hugging her back. She smelled like lavender. She pulled back, "Hello, Aunt Tomoko." You greeted her. "Hello dear, it's so good to see you. You didn't wait too long, did you?" She stopped hugging you to instead hold your hands.

Your mom and Tomoko are friends, so when you were smaller, they would often visit each other. "No, Aunt Tomoko, I just got here myself." You reassured her. She grinned at you and took some of your luggage. You found your train and went inside. She told you about her work, the neighborhood, and her son. "Josuke was so nervous when I told him about you coming to live with us for the school year. I have never seen him clean this much before. Wonders do still happen, huh?" She laughed.

"I hope I'm not being a nuisance." You said nervously. Tomoko took your hand reassuringly. Her nails were light pink with a purple star on both middle fingers. "Of course not. He was asking all kinds of questions about you. You both will get along greatly. Just like when you were little." I hope so, otherwise, my year is going to be fucked.

The rest of the train ride she told you stories about crazy things that Josuke did before. "He would break objects, and somehow they would repair themselves. Till this day I still dont know how he did that, says it's a secret. If you find out, please let me know." She requested with a twinkle in her eyes.

She also told you that after Josuke came down with a nasty fever, he started having this imaginative friend whom he called Crazy Diamond, and he changed his hairstyle to the Person that helped them in the snowstorm and would get unreasonably angry at anybody who insulted his hair.

Could it be that Josuke went nuts after his fever? After getting off the train, you took a taxi to Morioh. On the way, Tomoko told you more insane stories about Josuke which made you a little anxious to see the guy again.

The last time you saw him, you both were only 4 years old. Who knows how much he changed? He probably doesn't even remember me anymore.

You arrived in Morioh, and on the way to Tomoko's house, she showed you around the neighborhood and supermarkets. You liked the town so far. It seemed peaceful, and that is what you needed if you wanted your parents to let you stay for a year.

After just a couple of minutes, you arrived at her house. As you got closer, you could see a garage full of packages and other stuff. You noticed somebody in there. You turned to Tomoko whispering to her, "Who is he?" You pointed at the guy who had his back turned to you guys, so you had no clue what he looked like.

Tomoko looked confused for a second, but then she started laughing. "What? You don't recognize him?" Not if I am asking who he is. "Do I know him?" You asked. She looked at you amused for a few seconds. "That over there is Josuke." You turned to look at him again and, as if on cue, he was already walking towards you.

It's been 12 years. He changed a lot. He grew taller and gained muscle mass. A lot of muscle mass. A pompadour? So this is the hairstyle he is so obsessed with.

He wore a yellow tank top with two vertical zippers. One on each chest. Weird design but it looked good on him. He was in dark blue shorts. Damn, those are some thick thighs.

As he got closer, you were able to see his face. That's Josuke? I mean, he was cute as a kid, but now he is a different kind of cute.

"Josuke, you remember [Your name], right?" He looked you in the eyes and then took the suitcase that you were holding.

"Yeah. Good to see you again and welcome to Morioh." His voice was deep and raspy. It was as if he just woke up. "It's good to be back." You smiled and stood there waiting for something to happen.

"So," Tomoko spoke out. "You will have to excuse me, but I have to go to work." She hurried over to hug you before she quickly walked away.

"Work? I thought she took the day off, but I guess it is only 9 am." You said, basically to yourself because Josuke kept looking at you but didn't respond. It was starting to get awkward. "Uh.. Should we go in? Kinda hot outside."

That seemed to have pulled Josuke out of his trance, and he wordlessly took the other suitcase Tomoko was holding before and let you inside. His arms bulked, and his grip got tighter as he carried your belongings. Jesus, what's his workout routine?

He did not utter one word until you reached your room as he generously told you. More like muttered, though.

He opened the door and put both of your suitcases next to the bed that could probably fit 3 people. Omg, they got me a huge bed? He turned around to leave, but you grabbed his arm or at least tried to. You miscalculated the distance and were now holding his hand instead.

His hand was surprisingly soft. "Hold on. I just want to know if I offended you somehow. I am not the most sociable person and don't notice when I accidentally cross somebody." You tried to explain. His eyes widened, and you could see him visibly tense up.

"It's not that at all. I'm sorry, I was being weird. I was... nervous." His cheeks turned red. Cute. "Nervous? So much so that you barely spoke until now?" Tomoko did tell me he was nervous but this much? He looked away sheepishly. You grabbed both of his hands, holding them tightly. "Listen, I don't know what you would be so nervous about, but it's fine. You couldn't have been more nervous than me." A perfect strategy to get closer.

He turned his head and looked directly into your eyes. His eyes are blue, very blue. "Before Aunt Tomoko picked me up, I spoke to at least 8 people mistaking them for her until I decided to just stand around and wait patiently instead." That seemed to make him relax a bit, so you decided to continue.

"I was so excited to come back here, that I didn't sleep at all, and while I was on the bus, I fell asleep. I woke up sitting next to a really pretty woman. This might sound not so bad, but when I got on the bus, not only did I drop my money right before I was about to buy my ticket, but it was also incredibly full. I had to stand. Meaning I probably fell asleep standing and somehow fell into a seat."

As you continued to ramble on about your embarrassing day, you could feel his hands shaking. "Woah! Are you okay?" You asked.

"Pfft- I can't hold it in anymore!" He hurled to the ground, laughing and holding his stomach. "Well, shit, and here I thought I hit some emotional nerve there." You sighed. "Stop! My stomach hurts."

"At least I was entertaining, I guess." He was trying to steady himself, holding onto the door like his life depended on it. "Sorry, sorry. I wasn't laughing at you or anything." You walked to your bed and sat down, enjoying the feeling of your feet relaxing. "Somehow I can't seem to believe that, I wonder why?" You pretended to ponder.

He calmed down and leaned on the door frame with his right arm. "I mean it." He looked at you apologetically. "Are you angry with me?"

You huffed, scratching your head. "I'm not. With how you were laughing just now, I hope you don't suddenly become awkward again," You said cheekily.

"I didn't mean to be! Is there any way I can make it up to you?" He asked. You thought about it for a few seconds. "How about you hang out with me tomorrow? I'm still not used to this town, and Tomoko told me that the school would provide me with my uniform tomorrow," You said, unsure if you were bothering him.

"Are you sure that's all you want me to do? I could also give you a massage; you seem exhausted." He offered.

"I am fine. Hanging out is enough," You stated. "Well, I was planning to show you around anyway." He looked around the room, fixing his eyes on my luggage. "Need help with that?" He asked, pointing at one of my suitcases.

"Oh, no, I didn't pack a lot. I will be done in just an hour, thanks though." Your eyes met, and a smile spread on his face. "Alright, I'm going to be downstairs if you need anything," He told you before closing the door behind him.

It took you more than half an hour to organize all your stuff. You didn't bring too much since you planned to go on a shopping spree here. Now that you were done, you were starting to get bored. I wonder what Josuke is doing.

You stood up from your very comfortable bed and went out to the hallway. Your room was on the second floor and led directly to a staircase down to the living room and kitchen, and the toilet was at the end of the hallway to the right.

There was one thing you wanted to ask Josuke about, so as you made your way downstairs, you thought of ways to ask him the question. But no matter how much you rattled your brain on the matter, it either seemed like a stupid question or one he might not even answer.

You made it into the living room, hoping to get a 'eureka' moment somehow, but of course, you did not. You looked around, but he wasn't in the living room or the kitchen. "He said he would be downstairs. Where did he go?" As you thought about it, you remembered that he was doing something in the garage before, so that is where you took off.

Just like you expected, he was in the garage organizing it. You slowly approached him, still mulling over the question. "Hey, there." You said maybe too loudly. "Whoa!" He jumped, dropping everything he was holding.

"Oh shit, sorry, didn't mean to surprise you." You tried to pick everything up. "Nah, it's fine." He started picking up the packages too.

"Did you need anything?" He asked while continuing to clean up. "I've got a question." You paused before asking. "So, Auntie told me some stuff about you." Josuke stopped in his tracks. "Nothing bad, of course, but I am curious about these magic tricks that you used to do."

"What magic tricks?" He asked. "She told me you were able to break stuff, and they would somehow repair themselves." You responded. "She still remembers that? " He mumbled looking a bit bothered.

"Also, something about an imaginary friend you called Crazy Diamond?" You told him. He stopped working entirely and faced you. "I was a kid back then. Kids do a bunch of weird stuff." He furrowed his eyebrows and started combing his hair.

"What the-!? Where did that comb come from? You don't even have pockets." You said astounded. "Huh? Oh, the comb... it was in one of the packages. I was holding it before, you didn't see?"

"No, you were not! I was watching you the whole time. Not once did I see you take or hold a comb." You confronted him, but right before he could even respond, a familiar old-sounding voice that you heard a thousand times over the phone called out his name.

"Josuke! You aren't slacking off, are you?" It was Grandpa Ryo. "Geh!" Josuke choked. Ignoring your confrontation, he went out to see his grandpa. It was getting on your nerves. What is it that he is trying to hide?

You stepped out of the garage letting the sun hit your face for a while. Peeking over at them, you saw Grandpa Ryo in his police uniform holding his bike and Josuke wiping the sweat from his forehead. They seemed close. His smile radiated when he was around his grandpa, even as a stranger it was clear Josuke respected him a lot.

You remembered one of your visits when you were still a child. On that visit, Josuke told you about his father. It didn't seem to bother him that one of his parents was absent from his life. You asked him why he wasn't sad. He giggled before pointing at his grandpa and saying "My grandpa is a policeman and catches the bad guys to protect us, that's why I won't ever need a dad!"

You thought about how Confident he seemed. How proud.

You thought about how the absence of Josuke's father might have affected this family differently. Maybe that's why Josuke seemed to have picked up some weird habits. You were still curious about the comb but there was a whole year's worth of time to let Josuke come to you on his terms. Pressuring him won't make him tell me anything.

Pushing your suspicions to the back of your mind, you walked over to them. "Grandpa Ryo! I'm back!" You shouted enthusiastically, waving your hands around. Josuke's grandpa was in your heart, also your grandpa. You talked to him a bunch on the phone. You and Josuke kind of drifted apart. With puberty getting even more in the way. There was nothing to be done. This time I want to stay close to him

Grandpa Ryo smiled brightly. "There you are! Welcome back!" Even though you talked to him a week ago he made it sound like it's been years. "You should have seen the chaos that ensued when it was decided you were going to live with us." He laughed while hitting Josuke on the back. I don't know what happened but it doesn't seem like Josuke wants to talk about it. His face is as red as a tomato.

We all went back inside, except for Josuke. He still needed to clean up the garage, which he did not seem to want to do at all. You sat down in the living room while Grandpa Ryo took off to change. When he came back he was wearing a grey T-shirt with white shorts. He also had a glass of whiskey in his hand.

"Day drinking?" You said in a judging tone. He opened the bottle and took a sip, sinking deeper into his seat. "I am only drinking to celebrate. Since, you're finally visiting this old man!" He cheered.

You chuckled. "Sorry, I couldn't come sooner. I wanted to but everyone was busy and I had to focus on school." I really wish I could have come sooner.

"You are here now and for a whole year at that. That is what matters." He seemed overjoyed.

You chatted about everything that you could think of. It was nice. Felt like being home.

Your body was finally able to relax and your mind started slipping away from the conversation.

You thought about your day so far. It was nothing like you imagined it to be but you didn't mind that. It was fun. You were still thinking about your interaction with Josuke earlier, his bizarre reaction to the stuff Tomoko told you about. Maybe something bad happened when he was younger, related to that. It didn't seem like Aunty knew about it.

-Ring-Ring-

-Ring-Ring-

"Let me get that." He grunted while standing up from his seat. That pulled you out of your thoughts and you started wondering who would be calling this early in the day but you didn't need to wonder long when Grandpa Ryo came with a fond smile on his face.

"Here, it's for you." He said before giving the phone to you. You took the heavy device from him and let out an unsure, "Hello?" to gauge out who it was you were speaking to.

"Oh, so you are still alive." The voice basically taunted you. "Mom! Oh, shit I am so sorry." You heard a deep sigh over the phone before she started speaking again. "Do you even know how worried I was? I knew I shouldn't have let you go."

You panicked a little bit inside "I was planning on calling you! It just slipped my mind for a second, you know because time difference and all. And I was also catching up with Grandpa Ryo." You said looking up to see the man chuckling a little.

"That is great and all but normally when one arrives in a whole different country they call their families to let them know they are fine. I bet you drowned yourself with thoughts again." She fussed and you imagine her pacing around the room while shaking her head.

"I was just a little tired. I won't lie, this was the most exhausting trip I ever went on but I got here just fine and I didn't lose anything!" You boasted.

"Mhm, alright not so bad considering it's you."

"Mom! I'm reliable, okay?" You grumbled.

"Sure, you overgrown child." She laughed you off. This was frustrating but at least she seemed to be in a better mood now. "But remember you cause any trouble over there and you come right back!" She asserted herself.

"I promise I will behave!" Shifting slightly in your seat you held your breath. "Good you know if something happens Tomoko will tell me right away." You could tell your mom fully meant that.

"Okay, well, call me tomorrow I have to go now. Oh and don't forget to eat properly and rest! " You breathed in before responding "Yes mom. Bye mom." And with that you hung up.

You let out a deep sigh while rubbing your eyes. "You think we could have lunch a little earlier?" You asked tiredly. Grandpa Ryo laughed "Sure, I will just call Josuke in. You just wait here. "

After he left you stood up and put the phone back before going back to your seat.

Everything after was pretty much a blur. Josuke and Grandpa Ryo came in and Josuke went back up to change out of his sweat-drenched clothes. In the meantime Grandpa Ryo started making lunch.

By the time Josuke came back Grandpa Ryo was already done and started setting the table. You and Josuke helped out, even though he insisted on doing it alone.

While eating, Grandpa Ryo told some stories about his job. Most stories were of when he was younger.

"Your grandpa, he was quite the popular guy it seems." You whisper into Josuke hear slightly giggling.

Josuke had to hold back his laugh before responding "Yeah, and hella dense." You nodded in agreement.

In most of his stories he saved some lady who then tried to win him over but he refused them, thinking they just feel obligated to show their gratitude in an excessive way.

The Higashikata family must be well known in this town. Their DNA is basically just 'hot' 'hotter' and 'the hottest' the hottest obviously being Aunt Tomoko.

The rest of the day you and Grandpa Ryo spend playing old card games. Grandpa Ryo decided to change the game rules to make it easier for you, since you barely knew the original rules to begin with.

Josuke went back to working in the garage. Apparently Tomoko promised him something, if he gets it cleaned up by the time she is back from work.

Time was pacing by quickly and before you knew it was already dark outside.

"The sun is going down, Josuke should come back in. Can you go and bring him back please?" Grandpa Ryo asked, sitting up to wash the dishes.

"Yeah, no problem." You answered already making your way to the garage.

You could see Josuke still focused on cleaning up. The whole garage looked so much more organised now than before.

"Oh, damn, I'm impressed." You said astounded. Josuke, surprised to hear a voice took a step back but calmed down when he saw you. "Oh, it's just you." He sighed in relief.

"It's dark outside, let's go back in." You looked up to the cloud covered sky. "I think you are pretty much done, Josuke."

"Nah, I still need to do some stuff here. You can go back in, I will be there for dinner. Probably." He said sighing, obviously not wanting to continue.

"I will help then!" You said looking around already for possible cleaning areas. "What? I told you it's fine. I can't have our guest cleaning up the garage, mom will kill me!" He said desperately and a little scared.

"Then it will just have to be our little secret." You said smirking. He stared at you for a little while and then started laughing.

"Alright, and to be honest I wouldn't mind the company." He said scratching the back of his head looking a bit shy.

You joined him after going back in to quickly tell Grandpa Ryo that you would help him finish up. Of course you asked him not to tell Tomoko about it. He simply laughed before shooing you off.

"When will she come back?" You asked thinking back to this morning when she ran off to work.

"She is usually back right before dinner, so pretty soon I guess." He shrugged.

"Let's hurry up then!" You spotted a place that could use some cleaning and started working.

You both didn't talk much other than the occasional, 'Could you hand me that?' and rambled apologies after bumping into each other.

With the both of you focusing hard on the task, you finished up in less than 30 minutes. Tomoko was still not back yet so you considered that a win.

Josuke collapsed to the ground sighing in relief. You crouched right in front of him and also let out a long sigh. "You did it!" You pumped a fist in the air.

Josuke looked slightly startled at how close you actually were. "You mean we did it." He held out his palm for a high five.

You grinned before slapping your palm to his. "We need to go in now before-" You started, helping Josuke get up.

"Before what?" A voice behind you interrupted. You screamed, falling onto Josuke, who then also lost his balance, which resulted in you both on the ground tangled up in eachother.

Tomoko laughed at you both trying to get up. "Whoo- I wish I could take a picture of this." She said with a glee in her voice.

After you managed to untangle yourself from Josuke you helped him up. You whispered a quick "Sorry!" To him. He looked very anxious.

"So what were you doing here?" She asked pointedly looking at you.

You scrambled your brain for an answer. "I kept him Company." You responded with full confidence as it was not a lie.

"You were not helping out?" She asked doubtful.

"Nope! That-" You gestured to the now clean looking garage. "Was all him." Sure, you had helped out a bit but compared to how much he had already done, it was nothing.

Tomoko still looked suspicious of the two of you "That's kind of you, and Josuke, great job! Let's go in now."

You made eye contact with Josuke as Tomoko let you and Josuke back in. You smirked at him, bumping your fist slightly into his shoulders before walking up ahead to talk with Tomoko.

"You should have told me you had work. I could've come here alone." You said thinking how you must have burdened her.

"You are more Important than work! Also, what if something happened to you? This is the first time you've come here without your family, so there is no way I could just leave you alone." She said with a certain determination.

You smiled fondly before hooking your arm through Tomoko's "Thank you!"

Tomoko pulled you closer to pat you on the head "For what? It's my responsibility as an Adult." She finished grinning.

Notes:

I have a lot planned for this fanfic and just hope to carry you with me through this bumpy ride to the finish line.
