Part 8 of the Rowvember 2024 series. After losing their canonization spot, the Boss asks Johnny for ideas.

Work Text:

The Saints’ hideout was eerily quiet, almost no one was around. After what had happened at the trainyard where the purple crew used to hold its canonizations of new recruits, most gang members were occupied with the search for Kate. The Boss had mobilized almost her entire gang for this task, she wasn’t sparing any expenses when it came to getting one of her own back safe and sound.

The Saints’ leader had also been busy looking for her, airing out two known Brotherhood spots singlehandedly in the process, but her missing lieutenant had been at neither. For now she was taking a short break, despite how high up her lieutenant’s safety and wellbeing was on her priority list, there were still other things she had to take care of and consider during these trying times.

Losing the trainyard was a big blow to her gang, she would have loved to continue using it, but once a spot like that was burnt, it was too risky to return. She needed a new location for the canonizations, preferably multiple. But the redhead was having a hard time thinking of any good places. Most of the decent spots that came to mind were down south, but she wanted to avoid close proximity to any Brotherhood territory moving forward.

She was hoping that her second in command could help her brainstorming a new location.

“Nothing yet?” Johnny’s voice sounded a little raspier than usual when she entered his makeshift shooting range next to the old hotel lobby.

“No,” she lightly shook her head with a sigh, “no trace of her so far.”

Her friend had been on the lookout too for a bit, but when the Boss had sent out most of her crew for the search party, they had needed guns. Johnny was in charge for handing them out and making sure they were in tip top shape, so he had returned to their hideout to make sure their stock was in good condition.

Right now the man was busy cleaning a rifle he had disassembled on the counter, “Don’t worry, Boss, we’ll get her back.”

She was aware that he had no way of knowing that for certain and was only trying to cheer her up. Hell, maybe he was trying to cheer himself up. Him and the blonde bumped heads a few times, which had started back during Kate’s own canonization, but he was still concerned for the girl. Either way, she appreciated his reassuring words nonetheless.

“We got everyone out looking, so I hope you’re right,” she sat down on one of the barstools and watched him work for a bit, “in the meantime,
I was hoping you could help me with something else.”

He briefly looked up at her before turning his gaze back down to the gun in front of him, “What’s up?”

“We need a new place to do these things, and I’m struggling to think of any good spots.”

“What sorta place you lookin’ for?” He asked without taking his eyes off the weapon.

“Something remote where we’re not out in the open,” she rested her elbows on the wood, “but also far away from any Brotherhood territory.”

“Hmm,” the latter eliminated a lot of good spots already, “definitely up north then.”

Velvet had been leaning towards the northern island as well. It was under complete Saints control and not near any rival gang territory.
The river also served as a great, natural barrier to the Samedi and Brotherhood infested south, “I was thinking that too, but I don’t know any good places in the north. Unlike the industrial areas down here, everything’s so populated up there.”

She wasn’t wrong. Downtown, the marina, the museums, it all was swarming with locals and tourists. Not to mention the suburbs where twenty soccer moms would all simultaneously call the cops if someone even wore a hint of purple. It wasn’t like the trailer park where the local residents wouldn’t call 911 even if their neighbour’s trailer just blew up.

“Shit, what about the trailer park?” He suggested when he realized how different its culture was compared to the rest of the island.

“The trailer park?” The Boss wondered.

“Think about it,” he put down his tool and wiped some sweat off forehead, “it’s somewhat remote, cops never go there, it’s under our control and far away from any other gang.”

He was right, ever since they had conquered the trailer park by taking out the Samedi’s drug labs there, the green clad gang had made no attempts at reclaiming it, “Not a bad idea.”

“I mean if the Sons were able to just freely cook their shit up there without anyone raising an eyebrow…” he reasoned.

“Yeah, but everyone up there’s a drug addict anyway,” she countered.

“And they love fighting, so I think we’re good,” Johnny rebutted with a smirk.

“Alright, I dig it,” she got up from her chair. She would have to think it over before making any calls, but at least she had made good progress, “thanks Johnny.”

He gave her a lazy salute in acknowledgement before turning his attention back to the weapon he had to put back together.

The horned woman made her way back towards the stairs, for now she was going to go back to looking for her blondie.
