Work Text:

"How--" Utahime buried her red face in her hands and resisted the urge to scream. She had been dropped off a day ago, a few towns over, for a covert mission. A mission that somehow spiraled into an investigation deep into the heart of a ghost town--one that didn't even show up on any map, kilometers away from any working cellular or mobile phone signal, and to make matters worse, Jujutsu High thought it was a brilliant idea to send to her rescue the biggest idiot in the planet!!

"How could you forget where you parked the car??" she cried in frustration, her fingers wildly jabbing at the car key fob in every direction as if it was the key to her sanity. Up, down, left, right--nothing! The damn thing wasn't even beeping! "You're impossible!!" She cried, her last shred of patience unraveling. She was seconds away from giving up and just throwing herself off the nearest cliff.

Beside her, Satoru didn't seem to care at all. He was perfectly content gingerly trailing behind her, whistling cheerfully and skipping as if he was strolling through a scenic vacation brochure. It's been a while since he's had the opportunity to unplug from the digital world, technology be damned! People needed to disconnect from the toxicity of social media every once in a while!

Lips quirking at the amusing sight of his cute, frustrated colleague bending over backwards desperately trying to find their car, his eyes drift to the overlooking view of the horizon, the sunset painting the clear sky a stunning mesh of blue, purple, pink, and orange.

"Not much to look at, huh?" He teased her, a smirk dancing on his lips as Utahime followed his gaze, clearly unimpressed by the annoying him... and the view waiting behind him.

"I've seen better." She replied bluntly and continues down the road, persistently clicking on the car keys albeit in vain.

Satoru lets out a dramatic whistle and wandered towards the cliffside, taking in the breathtaking view.

"What a waste of a lovely night." He mused, looking over his shoulder at Utahime, who was openly frowning at the unhelpful him. "What a shame it's just you and me."

Utahime sneered, wondering what he was on about now.

"Some other girl and guy would love this sky." Satoru continued, his handsome smirk resting on his face, and he turns back to the beautiful horizon before them. "But it's only you and me. No spark in sight."

"No kidding." Utahime grumbled under her breath as she walked up beside him, crossing her arms. Her eyes followed the same breathtaking view, herself admiring the beautiful horizon; it's orange clouds draping the small town in the distance, lights flickering on as evening set in.

Satoru sighed dramatically, earning him another irked click of Utahime's tongue.

"What a waste."

Utahime rolled her eyes.

"We've got no chance." Satoru glanced sideways at her, the corners of his mouth curling into a playful grin; and Utahime fumes, offended when he says-- "You're just not my type."

Utahime's brow arched, her cheeks flushing red in offense.

"Let's get one thing straight." She said, narrowing her eyes at his growing grin. "I'd never fall for you. There is absolutely nothing here."

"No chance for romance?" Satoru asked with a mischievous glint in his eyes, his grin widening.

"Not at all!" Utahime shot back, crossing her arms tighter. "Anyone else would have a better chance. Even a pair of absolute strangers!"

Satoru let out a hearty laugh.

"Ah," He nodded. "Some random handsome guy."

Utahime shot him a sarcastic look, her lips curving into a playful smile. "Who isn't insufferable."

"And a pretty girl." Satoru happily chimed in; his grin still wide as he turned back to the horizon, content with conjuring up this unknown, made up couple.

"Without a scar across her face." Utahime adds and smiled shyly, her voice a little quieter. "They'd be perfect for this romantic view."

"Nah," Satoru grinned out to the horizon and rested his head sideways over Utahime's. "She'd have one." He throws her a cheeky smile. "She'd pull it off well."

A smile tugs at the corners of Utahime's lips, and her hazel eyes light up as she turned to meet Satoru's gaze. "Then, maybe the guy's a little insufferable."

Satoru laughed, nodding. "Ah, just a little!"

"He'd take her hand." Satoru said with a happy glint in his eyes and pulls Utahime into his arms, making her break out in a laugh; the wind catching her hair; Satoru feeling like he was in the clouds himself. "Ah, and when she needs him, he'd show up anywhere."

"Anytime?" Utahime asked as Satoru pulled away, exchanging her embrace for a better view of her.

"Always." He murmurs with a soft smile, pulling her closer and guiding her arms over the back of his neck.

Smiling, Utahime stands on her tiptoes and brushes her lips against his, short but warm, but sweet.

"Those two strangers," She said quietly, pulling away just a little, her smile soft and fleeting; "They'd surely make the most of this lovely night."

"Hm." Satoru was entranced, his eyes locked onto hers, leaning back in slowly, lips tingling in anticipation. But before he could close the distance between them, Utahime shoved him gently, her playful grin a stark contrast to the disappointed tug in his lips.

"Found it!" Utahime exclaims right as they hear a distant beep of a car unlocking; and Satoru could only laugh, thinking he should've hid the car better.
