Chapter Text

It was still hard to believe for Wu that Morro came back. That he is alive again and in the monastery. Sometimes he still thinks it’s a nice dream, almost too nice, but as soon as he sees the Master of Wind at the breakfast table or in the courtyard, he knows. He knows it’s real. Morro is really back for good. But despite all this, Wu has yet to actually talk to him alone. Morro was avoiding him, but both of them knew they needed to talk, they couldn’t keep living like this.

Wu just didn’t want to push it; he wanted to give Morro space and not overwhelm him. Even if Wu finally wanted to get that conversation behind them and work on a better relationship.

Today is the day.

Morro is going to talk to Wu and they’re going to work whatever tension is between them out once and for all.

After breakfast, everyone except Wu and Morro had left the monastery. Kai and Nya were visiting their parents, Jay was with his parents, Echo, Zane and Pixal were visiting Borg, Lloyd and Garmadon went out to do something, Morro didn’t ask, and Cole was visiting his dad. Cole had invited him to join, but Morro turned him down, he needed to talk to Wu and having the monastery to themselves gave Morro enough confidence to do so.

It was almost lunchtime, so Morro decided to make some lunch for them. That would be a nice first move, right?

Morro knew Sensei would only drink tea if Morro didn’t make lunch. The man was a horrendous cook, it’s a miracle he can boil water to make tea. Morro was just making some fried rice with the leftover rice from yesterday and whatever else he could find. It was easy enough to whip up. Knowing Sensei, he would like some tea as well. Morro pulled out Sensei’s favorite one. The man insisted to everyone around him he didn’t have a favorite, possibly so they wouldn’t throw out his whole collection, but Morro knew it was Jasmine.

Once Morro was done, he walked towards Sensei’s room and knocked.

“Sensei? I made lunch.”, said Morro. His voice is a little shaky with the nervousness.

The door opened quickly, almost too fast if you asked Morro, and the old man was in front of Morro.

Once they were at the dining table, which Morro had set for them. Wu looked at the meal in awe. Morro didn’t know how to cook when he first stayed with Wu. How would he? Wu barely cooked.

“You know how to cook?”, asked Wu as to took a bite of his fried rice.

“I help Zane and Kai with cooking. It’s nice.”

“It’s good to have a hobby, especially if it’s this delicious.”

“Thanks, Sensei.”

Eating together, just the two of them, brought memories back to them. Morro was still a child, clueless about the world and Wu was young, well younger, and looked far more human than he does now. Before he chose not to hide his dragon features.

“Sensei?”, asked Morro.

“Yes, Morro.”

“Why did you hide what you really look like when I was a kid?”

Wu looked surprised at the question, but he answered it anyway.

“Times were different back then. People were far more scared. I was alone and didn’t want to be even more isolated. When Garmadon left I chose to blend in more and slowly I just got used to it. Then Garmadon and I decided to hide it as long as we could. But that only lasted until Lloyd gained his oni traits. We decided to leave that behind us.”

“Where are you ever going to show me?”

“I don’t know. You were a child and I didn’t want to scare you.”

“I wouldn’t have been scared of you.”

Wu didn’t know what to say, deep down he knew. Morro would never be that shallow. He didn’t even react to Wu’s true appearance when they reunited.

They talked more about everything and nothing at the same time. Both Wu and Morro missed those simpler times they were reminded of.

But the simple times wouldn’t last. Morro knew what he had to do.

Morro looked at Wu as the two had now settled down in the living room.

“Sensei.”, Morro's voice was serious in a way Wu hadn’t heard in a long time. He turned to Morro, giving him his full attention.

“I know I messed up, a lot. I left the monastery for stupid reasons, I died, and I hurt you and your students, especially Lloyd. I know this won’t make anything better, but for what it’s worth I’m Sorry.”

Wu smiled; he knew Morro was sorry.

“I already forgave you a long time ago. I failed you as a teacher.” and father, he wanted to add.

Morro looked at him in utter surprise, as if he didn’t believe the old man. He likely didn’t.

“You did?”, Morro’s voice broke as he said this. His eyes were wet, tears threatening to fall any second.

And it only took a few more seconds for Morro to be fully crying, he hadn’t cried since before he died, all the grief all the pain, all the built-up emotions were coming out at once. He was happy Wu wasn’t mad, happy to be alive again, sad that he hurt so many people and angry at himself for being so stupid.

Morro tried to wipe his tears; it didn’t do much the tears just kept falling.

“I’m sorry I fucked up. I’m sorry for hurting everyone. I’m sorry for leaving. I’m sorry for never coming home. I’m sorry, Baba.”, Morro cried.

Baba. Baba. Baba.

The word repeated in Wu’s head, over and over again.

He reached out and wiped Morro’s tears away, causing Morro to look at him. He may be a grown adult, but in this moment all Wu could see was the same child he found digging in his trash. The same child he took in, the same child he took and as his own.

“You’re home now, son.”, Wu said as he pulled Morro into a hug, shedding a few tears himself.

Morro froze for a second but wrapped his arms around Wu.

“I’m home, Baba.”

Morro was home. His son was finally home.

After they finally calmed down from that emotional roller coaster Wu told Morro to sit in front of him. Morro looked a little confused but did it nonetheless. When Morro sat down, Wu began to braid his hair.

A memory of his Morro.

Wu used to braid his hair, almost every day when he was younger. Morro never braided his hair again after he left.

First Master, Morro really missed this.

When Wu finished the braid he tied it off. Wu had made sure to incorporate the green streaks in Morro's hair like he always did. Wu was sure Morro’s hair had more green in it than it used to.

Before he let Morro stand up again he took off his necklace and placed it around Morro’s neck.

Morro felt the metal around his neck, he looked down and saw it. Wu’s necklace. The man had it for as long as Morro can remember. It was from the First Spinjitsu Master, Wu’s father. Morro knew how important it was.

He turned to look at Wu.

“I can’t-“, Morro protested.

“Sure, you can.”

“Sensei, I can’t! It’s so important to you!”

“I want you to have it, Morro.”

“But why me?”

Wu patted the spot next to him on the couch and Morro sat down.

“Garmadon gave his to Lloyd. A long time ago we promised to give them to our eldest children. I wanted to give it to you for a long time.”

“You didn’t just call me son because I called you Baba?”

Wu shook his head. “No. You are one of my prized pupils, but more importantly, you are my precious son. And I missed my son.”

Morro laughed.

“I missed you too, Baba.”

When everyone else returned, they noticed the relaxed atmosphere. All of them knew Morro and Wu needed to talk and they were happy they finally did. None of them could have lived with the tension any longer.

If they heard Morro call the Sensei Baba they kept quiet about it. They all knew Morro was Wu’s favorite. Not because he was Wu’s first student, but because he was Wu’s son.
