Meeting Family

Summary:

Obanai meets Mitsuri’s family.

Notes:

Hello! I hope you enjoy this short story, I decided to write this because I really wanted to know how Obanai would react to meeting Mitsuri’s family and vice versa.
This can be read as a prequel to ‘How to Settle a Hashira’ or just its own story.

Work Text:

It was a pleasant warm summer day, the sun was shining bright and the air smelt of lavender. In the Iguro-Kanroji estate, everything appeared to be fine from the outside, but when you looked into the estate, there was a 5 '4 man with a snake cuddled around his neck who was panicking.

“What happens if they don’t like me?” Wondered Obanai.
“Trust me, they will love you.” Replied the Love Hashira.
Obanai shook his head, leaned over the suitcase and continued to pack.
“You’re lying.” Obanai said flat out.
“Would I ever lie to you?” Asked Mitsuri.
The dark haired man stopped packing, looked into his girlfriend's eyes and shook his head.
“Exactly, so you have to believe when I tell you that they will love you!” Exclaimed Mitsuri.
The young woman then wrapped her arms around her boyfriends waist before he continued to pack his clothes.

As the young couple was laying down in bed, Obanai couldn’t fall asleep. He looked at the clock and it read 2:00am, they had to be awake by 6:00am. He kept wondering what Mitsuri’s family would think of him. Would they think he was ugly due to his heterochromia? Would they think he’s weird for wearing bandages around his mouth? Would they think he’s mentally ill for having a snake around his neck at all times? Would they think he is an unworthy boyfriend to Mitsuri?
All these questions kept flooding his mind. He understood that he doesn’t look like the stereotypical man, but he does love Mitsuri with his whole heart. So maybe that will shine through when he meets her family.
After staring at the ceiling for an hour, he felt a pair of arms wrap around him and he was fast asleep.

“Obanai! Wake up!” Mitsuri screamed.
The Snake Hashira started to rub his eyes, confused about his surroundings, till he heard their alarm clock.
“What time is it?” Obanai asked groggily.
“Six in the morning! We have to start getting ready NOW if we want to arrive at my parents house on time!” Said a stressed out Mitsuri.
Obanai just nodded and slowly climbed out of bed.
It took the couple 45 minutes to get ready, after they were ready, they got in the carriage and prepared themselves for a 2 hour carriage ride to the Kanroji residence.

During the whole carriage ride, Obanai was controlling the horse. This helped him get his mind off of his concerns and having conversations with Mitsuri. She never brought up her parents, since she knew he was extremely worried about him meeting them. They just had conversations about their fellow Hashira, how they should decorate their house (since they just moved in together) , and other things. There were also moments of silence during the ride that the couple appreciated.

After two hours of being trapped in the carriage, the two Hashira finally made it to the Kanroji residence. Their home wasn’t as big as Obanai’s or Mitsuri’s, it was an average size for a large family. It had a more modern (for the 1900’s) look to it and there were flowers in the garden.

Once they reached the road, Obanai started to shake and his hands were sweaty. He tried to seek comfort in Kaburamaru, but it wasn’t working. Obanai got out of the carriage and got their suitcase. He brought the suitcase up the driveway and Mitsuri followed him. She took his hand, as she could tell he was nervous and that seemed to calm him down for a bit, till his girlfriend knocked on the door.

After three knocks on the door it finally opened, revealing a 5 '6 woman with black hair and green eyes, wearing a green and white kimono.
“OKASAN!” Screamed Mitsuri, running to hug her mom.
“MITSURI! Welcome back home, dear!” Exclaimed Mitsuri’s mother.
The two women hugged each other and stayed like that for a long time, remembering each other’s presence.
“I missed you so much.” Whimpered the Love Hashira, tears forming in her eyes.
“I missed you more. We were all worried about you, you have no idea.” Replied the older woman.
Mitsuri shook her head in her moms embrace, denying that her mother missed her more.

Mitsuri’s mom broke the hug and turned to the man with black hair and yellow and blue eyes. Obanai felt like he was about to pass out, until he felt Kaburamaru tighten around his neck and Mitsuri hold his hand, making him remember that everything was going to be okay.

“This must be your boyfriend. Obanai, is it?” Asked Mitsuri’s mom, smiling.
Mitsuri and Obanai both nodded.
“Nice to meet you, Mrs Kanroji.” Stammered Obanai.
“Nice to meet you too, Obanai. You can call me Akari by the way.” Replied Mitsuri’s mom.
Akari started to go up to Obanai to hug him, then Mitsuri cut in.
“Okasan, he isn’t comfortable with hugging new people. I thought I told you that.” Stated the younger woman.
“Oh my god! I’m so sorry, I know you told me that Mitsuri, I just forgot.” Said Akari, slightly embarrassed.
“It’s okay.” Obanai said and reached his hand out for a hand shake. Akari smiled and shook his hand.

Soon after, Akari brought the young couple into the dinning room, the space looked oddly empty for a house of six people.

“Where is everyone?” Asked Mitsuri.
“Your dad is at work, Atushi is at judo, Sakura and Hitomi are getting ingredients for dinner and Rikuto is sleeping.” Replied Akari.
“Oh my gosh! I hope Rikuto still remembers me, it’s been so long. I remember I only left when he was 4 months old.” Mitsuri said sorrowfully.
“He knows who you are! We show him pictures of you, tell him stories about you and share the letters you send us.” Ensured Akari. Making Mitsuri’s mood brighten up.
“Can we see him?” Asked Mitsuri, her eyes lighting up.
“How about you show Obanai around first, and then we can wake him up.” Replied Akari.
The Love Pillar nodded her head and tugged on her boyfriend's arm.

Mitsuri showed Obanai the entire house and spent most of her time showing him her childhood bedroom that she shared with her sister; Sakura. Obanai found the shared room very cute, as some drawings that Mitsuri drew were still hung up on her side of the room and all the decor was pink.

The Love Hashira sat on the futon and patted the spot next to her, so the Snake Hashira could sit next to her.

“I’m sorry that my mom tried to hug you earlier.” Whispered Mitsuri.
“It’s okay, I understand that your family loves physical affection. I’m sorry that I can’t show that affection back to them…” Obanai confessed while looking down at his hands.
“Oh no! Please don’t blame yourself, it's just hard for you because of the trauma you’ve experienced. I promise the rest of them won’t be mad at you and they are all understanding.” Mitsuri said reassuringly.
“I hope so.” Whispered Obanai and then leaned his head against his girlfriend’s shoulder. The pair stayed like that for a while until Akari called them downstairs so they could wake up Rikuto.

Obanai did express his concerns about meeting the toddler, as his appearance isn’t appealing, but the two women reassured him that he’ll be fine.

All three of them walked into the toddler’s room, which he shared with his sister; Hitomi. Akari started to gently kiss Rikuto’s face to wake him up, the toddler began to stir and then he was finally awake, clinging to his mother. Akari held the toddler, and carried him to the living room so he could properly meet his sister and her lover.
Once they all sat down on the couch, the infant immediately took interest in Kaburamaru, he kept making grabby hands towards the snake.

“Rikuto, this is your sister, Mitsuri.” Explained Akari, trying to get the toddler to settle down.
“‘Suri!” Exclaimed Rikuto, now making grabby hands towards the Love Pillar. Mitsuri gladly accepted her young brother into her arms. She was so happy that her brother could recognize her, only because he’s only seen her through photos. Mitsuri babbled to Rikuto, until he asked a question.
“Who that?” Inquired Rikuto, pointing at Obanai.
“That’s my boyfriend!” Exclaimed Mitsuri.
“He look cool.” Babbled the toddler. “I like snake too.” Rikuto added on.
Obanai couldn’t help but feel warm on the inside, knowing that Rikuto didn’t cringe at him.
“His name is O-b-a-n-a-i.” Mitsuri said, trying to pronounce it for her brother.
Rikuto tried a few times to pronounce it, but all he could say was “Oba”.
“Oba!” Exclaimed the toddler, reaching out for Obanai. Obanai looked at the toddler, and didnt know what to do. He didn't know if he should hold him or not, as he's not used to holding small children and isn't too fond of human contact. Nonetheless, he decided to accept the child. When Obanai accepted Rikuto, Mitsuri gave him a glare asking if he was comfortable with holding Rikuto for the first time and the Snake Pillar nodded.

Once Rikuto was in Obanai’s arms, he kept moving around and Mitsuri had to teach Obanai how to hold him. As the infant settled into the young man’s arms, he couldn't help but smile through his mask. The two women found the site very sweet and smiled.

Though the toddler was calm, he noticed the snake around Obanai’s neck. He started to reach his hands towards the snake, and surprisingly Kaburamaru didn't move away. In fact, the snake leaned closer into Rikuto’s touch. At that moment, the two species came in contact.

“Would you like to hold him?” Obanai asked softly.
“Yes plwease!” Exclaimed the toddler.
Kaburamaru slid down his owner's neck and slowly started to wrap himself around Rikuto’s arms. Rikuto looked very happy to see the snake around his arms.
“How old is he? Asked Rikuto.
“10 years old, which is like 35 human years.” Replied Obanai.
“WOWAHH! He old!” Babbled the toddler.

Everyone in the room laughed.
Rikuto then asked Obanai what the snake's name was and Rikuto had a very hard time pronouncing it. So, he just called him Maru for short. The curious toddler kept asking the Love and Snake Hashira questions, and they were more than happy to answer him.

“I like Suri, Oba and Maru! They should stay here!” Stated Rikuto.
Just as Akari was about to respond, they heard the door open and the voices seemed to be pretty loud.
“Okasan, we got the groceries for tonight!” Yelled a young female voice.
“Great job you two! Can you and your sister please put them away?” Asked Akari.
“Yes!” The two voices shouted.
“Is that Sakura and Hitomi?” Inquired Mitsuri.
Akari nodded and Mitsuri got up from the couch and ran to greet her sister.

“SAKURA! HITOMI!” Screamed Mitsuri, as she was entering the kitchen.
The two girls with black hair and green eyes, turned around and ran to their sister to give her a hug. As the three girls embraced each other in a hug, they kept saying how much they’ve missed each other and how they were all glad that all of them were safe. Mitsuri decided to break the hug and chose to help her sisters put away the groceries.

After some silence, Sakura decided to break it.
“Where’s your boyfriend?” Asked Sakura, wiggling her eyebrows.
“He’s in the living room with Okasan and Rikuto-chan!” Mitsuri answered, while smiling.
“Oooh, can we meet him?” Hitomi questioned.
“When we are done putting the groceries away.” Replied Mitsuri.

As the girls finished putting the groceries away, they got caught up in life, but all the questions the younger girls asked their sister revolved around her boyfriend. Of course Mitsuri didn’t mind these questions, but she expected to learn more about what her sisters have been up to once she left.

During the conversation about the Love Pillars boyfriend, Mitsuri had to explain to her sisters that he’s very self conscious about his appearance and how others perceive him. She also warned them about his snake, but her sisters took interest in learning more about the snake.

Following their conversation about the Snake Pillar, the girls naturally asked their sister if they could finally meet him. Mitsuri could see the excitement in Sakura and Hitomi’s eyes, so she agreed.

Once they reached the living room, the girls couldn’t help but awe due to the sight in front of them. Obanai was holding Rikuto and Rikuto was playing with Kaburamaru. Akari greeted her daughters, and informed them that she would be starting to make dinner.

Both boys didn’t notice that Akari left, nor the fact that the Kanroji sisters were in the room, as they were in their own little world. That world was broken, since Sakura decided to greet them.

“Hello Obanai, hi Rikuto!” Exclaimed Sakura. Both boys looked up to see who called their names.
“Hello…you must be Sakura. Nice to meet you.” Greeted Obanai.
“Hii onesan!” Exclaimed Rikuto, who was waving at his sisters.
Hitomi also greeted Obanai and then the two sisters sat down on a couch, Mitsuri sat next to her boyfriend and everyone started to ask him questions. They asked him about why he decided to join the Demon Slayer Corps and how he met Kaburamaru.
“Why did you join the Demon Slayer Corps?” Asked Sakura. Obanai took a long pause before he answered.
“I joined because I was abused by my family and a demon they worshiped. So I wanted to target my hate and guilt into killing these demons, as they hurt me.” Obanai said while stuttering. Sakura and Hitomi shared their empathy towards the young man.
“How did you meet the snake?” Asked Hitomi, sounding very curious. Yet Obanai took a long pause again.

Mitsuri started to shake her head and give her sisters looks, but they weren’t paying attention to her signals. The Love Hashira could also tell Obanai was a little uncomfortable, but she knew he wanted to give his best answers to the girls, as they know nothing about them and he wants to prove his worth to her family. While Obanai was thinking of a response, Mitsuri started to rub his back gently, since his hands were occupied by Rikuto.

“I met him when I was living in a cell at my family’s estate. He slithered into my cell and we’ve been best friends since that day and he’s never left my side.” Obanai said hesitantly.
“I’m so sorry to hear about you living in a cell. But your friendship with your snake is very strong. What’s his name?” Sakura stated.
Obanai nodded and looked at his reptile friend.
“His name is Kaburamaru.” Replied Obanai.
“Cool name!” Exclaimed the two sisters.

After more questions from Sakura and Hitomi, that were mostly about the young couple’s relationship. Mitsuri gave Obanai an apologetic look due to the questions that were asked and whispered to him that they’ll talk about her sister’s behaviour later. Everything was going well, until Hitomi asked Obanai a very shocking question.

“Obanai, do you plan on marrying my sister?” Hitomi inquired.
The young couple's mouths dropped to the floor. Obanai had to think about how to answer the question. I mean, of course he wants to marry Mitsuri, but they’ve never talked about marriage yet. However, he didn’t want her sisters to think he’s using her if he says “no”, so he went with the safest option he thought of.
“Yes. I plan on marrying Mitsuri in the future.” Replied the Snake Pillar.
Sakura and Hitomi awed and expressed they can’t wait for their future wedding, and wondered what their children would look like.

Before Mitsuri could respond, Akari came into the room, informing them that it was time for Rikuto’s afternoon nap and that their father and Atushi will be home shortly. Obanai reluctantly gave the toddler to their mother and the rest of the children continued their conversation.

Midway through the new conversation, Mitsuri and Sakura got up to get snacks for everyone, as it would be a long time till dinner would be served, when the girls entered the kitchen their mom wasn’t there. Since the two sisters were getting snacks, Sakura told her sister that she’s found a good boyfriend.

“You really think so?” Mitsuri asked.
“Yes! I mean have you seen how he looks at you? He stares at you like you’re the only person in the room.” Sakura reassured her sister.
“I guess you are right. I’ve always known he’s a good boyfriend, he does everything for me. It’s just no one has ever told me that before.” Mitsuri said while staring at the floor.
“He even said he wants to marry you!” Exclaimed Sakura, clapping her hands. Mitsuri stopped pouring the chips in the bowl and gasped. Sakura turned and noticed her sister's reaction.
“Is that a bad thing?” Inquired Sakura.
No! Of course not!” Stuttered Mitsuri.
“Then why are you so shocked?” Pondered the Hashira’s sister.
“Because we’ve never talked about marriage. Plus, I am excited that he does want to marry me!” Replied Mitsuri.
“Well…I think you guys should talk about it!” Said Sakura. Mitsuri nodded her head and said she’ll bring the topic up to Obanai. After the conversation, the girls finished getting snacks and arrived back to the living room.

“Thank you for the snacks oneesans!” Exclaimed Hitomi.
“Thank you.” Said Obanai.
Both girls said your welcome.
A few snacks and conversations later, Haruki (Mitsuri’s dad) and Atushi (Mitsuri’s brother) came home. Everyone in the room got up to greet the two. Mitsuri could tell that Obanai was nervous, so she whispered to him that everything will be fine.

As soon as Mitsuri saw her dad, she ran up to him and gave him a big hug. Haruki gladly accepted the hug and hugged his daughter back, whispering to her how much he missed her. Once they separated from the hug, the Love Hashira gave Atushi a hug. Her brother tried to act like he didn’t like the hug, but everyone could tell he did.
The other sisters greeted their dad and brother, telling them that they got the groceries for dinner. After their conversation was done, Obanai had to face his fears of meeting his girlfriend's dad.

“Hello Mr Kanroji.” Greeted Obanai, holding out his hand to give the older man a handshake. Haruki gladly accepted the gesture.
“Hello, you must be my daughter's boyfriend, Obanai Iguro.” Greeted Haruki.
Obanai nodded and he could feel his palms sweating and legs shaking. He didn’t know how to continue the conversation, as he isn’t used to initiating conversations.
“Hello Atushi.” Greeted Obanai to the younger boy.
“If you hurt my sister, I’ll kill you.” Stated Atushi, leaving the room to go upstairs.
Obanai was stunned, which caused Kaburamaru to hiss at the younger boy. The Snake Pillar didn’t expect his girlfriend's brother to act so hostile towards him.
“I’m sorry about him. He can be overprotective at times.” Mitsuri apologized.
“It’s okay…” Said Obanai and glanced at the stairs.

If things couldn’t have gotten any worse, Mitsuri’s father asked Obanai if they could have a private chat after they were done having dinner. Of course Obanai couldn’t deny that offer, but he would be lying if he said he wasn’t scared. If Atushi acted this way towards Obanai, how would Mr Kanroji act towards him?
Luckily, the Snake Hashira was saved when Mrs Kanroji came into the room to greet her husband and informed everyone that dinner was almost done. She did ask why Atushi wasn’t there, but no one answered her.

During dinner, it was very silent from the latest interaction. Yet Akari still tried to make conversation with the group.
“How are you liking the change in scenery?” Akari asked the young man.
“It’s very nice. Also, the food is exquisite, Mrs Kanroji.” Complimented Obanai.
“Thank you, thank you.” Akari said to show appreciation.
After the mini conversation, more conversations erupted with the Kanjro siblings. However, most of the conversations involved the mention of Mitsuri and Obanai, as everyone was intrigued by how they met.

Following dinner, it was time for Obanai to face his fear by talking to Mr Kanroji. Mitsuri kept ensuring her boyfriend that there was nothing he should be afraid of, but Obanai wasn’t convinced.

It was very dark outside, nevertheless the lightbulbs illuminated Mitsuri’s dad who was sitting on a couch on the patio.

“Hello, Mr Kanroji.” Greeted Obanai, while taking a seat next to the older man.
”Hello, Obanai.” Greeted Mr Kanroji.
Obanai’s body tensed, as he didn’t know what to say.
“There’s no reason to be afraid of me.” Continued Mr Kanroji.
Obanai nodded, but said nothing.
“So…what are your intentions with my daughter?” Inquired Haruki.
Obanai took a long pause, he felt really uncomfortable answering this question. Although he knows it's important that he answers it to the best of his ability or Mr Kanroji may get a wrong idea of him.
“I love her very much…” Whispered Obanai, before taking a long pause. “I want to give her everything in this world and then more. We’ve helped each other a lot during our time in the Demon Slayer Corps.” The young man finished, as Kaburmauru gave him a reassuring look.

Haruki nodded, but said nothing. It’s hard for the Snake Pillar to open up to people he’s never met before, he still has trouble opening up to his best friend; Sanemi. Yet, Obanai felt as if he should continue speaking before his girlfriends dad gets suspicious of him. Obanai never got with Mitsuri in the hopes of pursuing her with bad intentions in mind. Mitsuri and Obanai himself acknowledged that.

“I hope to take care of her like a real man would. I know this is very early sir, but I would also like to marry your daughter one day and potentially start a family with her.” Obanai stated, his breath shaking.
“And how will I know that you will fulfill these promises?” Questioned Mr Kanroji.
“By showing you my trust till you deem me suitable for your daughter.” Obanai replied confidently.
”Very well then. I appreciate your honesty. You can go inside now.” Said Mr Kanroji.
The Snake Hashira got up and bowed to the older man, and they both said their goodbyes before going back into the house.

Back inside the Kanroji residence, the family was settled in the living room, playing a traditional Japanese board game; Daifugo. After many rounds, Hitomi was the overall winner, Atushi in second place, Obanai in third place, Mitsuri in fourth place and Sakura in fifth. Both parents weren’t very skilled at the game and the youngest in the family was asleep.

After the board game, it was time for everyone to retire to their rooms. As the young couple entered Mitsuri’s room, Mitsuri asked her boyfriend how the encounter with her dad went. Obanai said it went well, but Mitsuri could sense more happened. She didnt want to pry more information out of her lovely boyfriend, so she decided to leave it be.

As the couple layed in bed and started to talk to one another, Obanai had to ask Mitsuri a question that occupied his mind all night.

“Does Atushi not like me?” Obanai asked all of a sudden.
“What?” Mitsuri responded in disbelief.
“Does Atushi not like me? Repeated Obanai.
“Well…” Started Mitsuri. “He’s just over protective of me, please don’t take it personally, Oba. After what happened with my ex boyfriend, due to how poorly he treated me, he promised to look out for me. He just needs time to get used to you, and I promise when he gets to know you, he’ll love you just like my other siblings do.” Replied Mitsuri.
Obanai nodded, finally realizing why the oldest Kanroji brother was so wary of him.

Obanai knew it was going to take a long time for his girlfriend’s brother to accept him. Nonetheless, the Snake Pillar will do whatever it takes, and wait for infinite amounts of time till Atushi accepts him.

The young couple had multiple conversations during the night, as they barely had any time to themselves due to all of Mitsuri’s family being around. The conversations they had were mostly fun and lighthearted (making fun of their fellow Hashira’s, talking about Kaburamaru, talking about what deserts they’ll make, etc), because the Love Pillar knew her partner was stressed out from meeting her loved ones. The many conversations successfully relieved Obanai’s stress and they both had a wonderful sleep.

Days passed and it was finally time for the two Pillar’s to head back to the Demon Slayer Corps. Obanai had to admit, he did have an amusing time at the Kanroji estate. Everyone in the household was very lively and friendly, which reminded him of his childhood when he used to live with the Rengoku’s.

As the pair was getting their luggage ready, Obanai snuck away so he could ask Mitsuri’s dad a question. It wasn’t hard to find the older man, he was just sitting outside on the patio having a glass of sake.

“Hello, Mr Kanroji.” Saluted Obanai.
“Hello Obanai, how are you?” Asked Haruki.
“I’m alright and you, sir?” Responded Obanai.
“I’m fairly well, thank you for asking. Now, why are you here Obanai.” Inquired the older man.
Obanai took a long pause, he was nervous to reply to the older man.
“I was wondering…” Obanai began, thinking about how to phrase his question. “If I have your blessing to marry your daughter?” Inquired Obanai, his body shaking and his palms sweating. Kaburmaru had to tighten himself around his owner's neck to comfort him.

The Snake Hashira was getting worried now, the comfort of his companion wearing off. It’s been more than a minute and Haruki still hasn’t responded to his question. Finally the silence broke.

“After some deep thought, and consideration…” Paused Mr Kanroji. The pause feeling like an eternity. “I give you my blessing to marry my daughter. During the week you guys spent here, I could tell that you deeply care about her and will do anything in your power to protect her, but also provide for her. Furthermore, I see that my wife and children are very fond of you, which I also like and is very important for my consideration.”

Obanai was shocked. He didnt know what to say or do, he never wanted to hug and thank someone so badly. The young man bowed first.

“Thank you so much sir, you don’t know how much this means to me and I assure you that I will keep my promises.” Rampled Obanai.

“Your welcome, Obanai and please, call me Haruki. Also, get up from the floor, no need to be so formal” Replied the older man, getting up from his seat.

The older man walked over to Obanai and gave him a pat on the back. Normally Obanai would’ve moved away due to his aversion of contact, but he knew he had to accept it. Haruki offered Obanai a glass of sake, and the younger man gratefully took it.

Mitsuri was getting worried, it had been around 30 minutes since Obanai left, and he hasn’t returned. The Love Hashira was pacing around her parents house, asking her siblings if they’ve seen Obanai, but none of them have. It wasn’t till she asked her mom if she’s seen the younger man. Her mom nodded and pointed outside.

The young woman let out a squeal of happiness, she loved the sight in front of her. It was the two most important men in her life sitting down, having conversations and drinking sake. Her heart broke that she had to break the moment, as the carriage was going to be at the estate soon.

She opened the door to the patio, and greeted the two men, sadly informing them that the carriage will arrive shortly. Both of them got up from their seats and went inside the estate.

“I’m guessing your conversation went well.” Whispered Mitsuri to her lover.
All Obanai did was nod, smiling under his mask.

It was finally time for the young couple to say goodbye to the Kanrojis. Akari was crying, sad she would have to say goodbye to her daughter once again. Her husband was rubbing her back.

The siblings were also sad, they had a great time with their older sister this past week and they didn't want it to end. They also enjoyed meeting Obanai and getting to know him. They saw how much he cared for their older sister, so they gladly accepted him into the family.

As everyone were saying their goodbyes, Atushi walked over to Obanai and gave him a hug. Obanai wanted to push the teenager away. Yet he didn't, because everyone in the room would’ve gotten the wrong impression. Everyone in the room was shocked, they all thought he hated Obanai.

“Thank you for making my sister so happy.” Stated Atushi. “I accept you as her lover. Just don’t do anything to break her heart or I’ll…”
“Atushi, that’s enough. Said Haruki, cutting off his son mid sentence.
“Thank you, Atushi.” Replied Obanai.

Mitsuri let out another squeal, she was ecstatic that everyone in her family accepted her boyfriend.

Everyone said their final goodbyes, Akari, Mitsuri, Sakura and Hitomi crying in a warm embrace. Rikuto wanted to say a final goodbye to Kaburmaru, as he grew fond of the albino snake. Obanai let his snake curl up around the toddlers neck and licked his face. As the two were done saying their goodbyes, Haruki and Obanai opened the door and carried the luggage outside to the carriage. The two men said their goodbyes, and they both said a huge thank you to each other.

Once the carriage was all set up, the young couple went inside and waved their goodbyes to the Kanrojis. Obanai had to stop Mitsuri from crying. When Mitsuri settled down, she leaned her head against Obanai’s shoulder.

“I told you that they’d love you.” Mitsuri stated, smiling.
“Yes, you were right. I also found myself growing a fondness towards them.”
“I’m glad. I just know that we will be coming here more often.” Said Mitsuri.
Obanai nodded, keeping in mind that he has to start planning Mitsuri’s proposal soon.

However, he didn't want to worry about that, he wanted to enjoy the carriage ride with his lover.
