Chapter Text

Seeing them together shouldn’t hurt as much as it did. But you couldn’t help the pit of jealousy that filled your stomach whenever you saw Shoto Todoroki and Momo Yaoyorozu together, bubbling inside you like a volcano on the brink of eruption.

You’re not sure when it started, your crush on Shoto that is, but now you’re forced to bare the consequences of falling for your dual-haired best friend and not saying anything. Because now it was too late, you were sure of it. The way your 2 classmates clung to each other was enough evidence to prove that was the case.

It didn’t help that you sat next to them, nestled in the back corner of the classroom, Shoto on your right and Momo on your left. Every so often, you’d catch one of them looking at the other in your peripheral vision, and every glance made your heart hurt even more. With everything Shoto had gone through in his life, you just wanted him to be happy. He deserved to be happy. And you were happy he was happy.

But you couldn’t help but wish it was with you.

“I’m not sure what to do.” You sighed to Mina and Hagakure, slouching in your seat as you’re absentmindedly played with your food.

You were in the cafeteria, chopsticks tossing the untouched food around, your appetite suddenly gone after yet another morning of dealing with your unrequited love.

“You need to get over him.” Hagakure said.

“Yeah I know that.” You replied, running a hand through your hair. “But how?”

“There’s other guys in our class, you know?” Mina stated. “Ask one of them out, see what happens.”

“Yeah but I’d feel like I was using him.” You complained. “No one deserves to be used. Besides who would I even ask out?”

“Well the boys with girlfriends are off limits” Hagakure pondered. “So obviously Ojiro and Sero, and then also Shinso and Midoriya.”

“I highly doubt Bakugo would agree to a date because he sees relationships as distractions, and Mineta’s an obvious no.” Mina pointed out. “But other than that, you have plenty of options. Don’t know unless you try.”

You didn’t respond, instead opting to look over to your dual-haired crush sitting across from the black-haired beauty, engaged in a conversation. It made sense that he liked her and not you - Momo was beautiful, the most beautiful girl in class, and she was intelligent and talented too. Sure, you were also smart, ranking in the top 10 in class, but you couldn’t compete with her.

Sighing in defeat, you picked up your discarded chopsticks and dug into your now cold food. “Fine, I’ll do it.”

* * *

Saying you were paying attention to whatever Present Mic was babbling on about would be a lie. You were too busy scanning the whole class to see who you could ask out. There were a lot of options, which made sense because there were twice as many boys as there were girls, even with 6 being off limits that still left 8 to choose from: Aoyama, Iida, Kaminari, Kirishima, Koda, Sato, Shoji, and Tokoyami. All you got along with and all were good options.

Before you could begin to mentally pick them apart so you could choose one to go after, something caught your eye. You saw Iida turning slightly in his chair to look in the back corner where you were seated, eyes looking in your general direction for mere seconds before he turned to face the front and readjusting his glasses. Even from a distance, you saw the faint pink dusting his cheeks.

That was weird. You thought, having never seen him do that before. What was he looking at? It definitely wasn’t you or he’d have seen you looking back at him. And why was he blushing?

Your eyes widened as the realisation hit you. He was looking at Momo. Iida liked Momo!

Of course, it made sense. You’d noticed Iida hadn’t been his usual self, but he had tried to put on an act so his friends wouldn’t worry about him. Now you had a theory as to why, and you couldn’t help but feel sympathy for him. You knew how he felt, which was why you decided to go after Iida.

The final bell rang in your ears, and you quickly stood up and began packing your things, without sparing a glance at the boy to your right. You noticed Iida leave the classroom, and threw your bag over your shoulder as you headed out after him, not noticing the grey and turquoise eyes watching you as you left.
