Draco was rather new to the idea of Muggle Halloween. To him, Halloween was a day to pay respects to ancestors, a day where magic was strong and it was best to remain indoors in quiet contemplation. But he could not deny Harry’s enthusiasm.
Earlier that day, they’d gone to the next village over to choose pumpkins for carving. Harry’s was knobby, Draco’s bone white, and Scorpius’s pumpkin was nearly as big as he was. All were now laid out on old copies of The Prophet awaiting their fate.
Draco held Scorpius up to his pumpkin. “What will you carve?”
“Kitty!” Scorpius shrieked. He began to fuss with excitement in Draco’s arms.
“Harry, are you almost ready? Scorp’s getting restless and I want to make sure he has time to nap before trick or treating.” Draco heard a clatter from the washroom.
“I’ll be out in a minute.” Harry’s voice was oddly choked.
Draco’s brow furrowed with concern, but he waited until Harry returned. Harry’s eyes were red. He conjured another pumpkin, a small little thing and placed it beside his own.
“What?” Tears welled up in Draco’s eyes, disbelieving. Harry nodded.
“Scorpius, you’re going to be a big brother!”
