Work Text:
“Husker!” Comes Alastor voice and Husker instinctively growls. His fur stands on end as Alastor moves to sit at the bar. His body language conveys confidence, and his grin shows amusement. “How are you, my good man?”
Husk sighs heavily, whipping the wine glass he was currently drying down. He turns back around, hands already around the whiskey glass and bottle.
Alastor was always a whiskey type of guy.
“What are you after?” Husk snaps out, pouring the glass that Alastor promptly takes.
The man hums as he drinks, setting the glass down with a gentle click.
“I have a question for you in regards to our resident spider.” The words came out in a slow drawl, red eyes focused on him intensely as Husk felt his lips curl in protective anger.
Alastor wasn’t supposed to know about their relationship, he wasnt supposed to know Angel was his soulmate. It put Angel In to much danger.
He felt his claws dig into his palms as he clenched them, lips curled back and ears down.
Fear.
He feels scared for Angel.
He hates it. He doesn’t want to ever feel this way again. Angel wouldn’t deserve to be put in the type of situation that would cause it.
Angel doesn’t deserve what happens to him at work, he doesn’t deserve the bruises or the bites, he doesn’t deserve the cuts or the harsh words, and he sure as hell wouldn’t deserve Alastor putting his grimy claws-
“Now, now Husker!” He feel Alastor light pat his head, a degrading act as Husk quickly pushing his arm away. “Don’t act so angry. I simply had a few questions is all.”
Husk took a few deep breaths through his nose, trying to ground himself.
He couldn’t bare the thought of Angel being hurt by Alastor, let alone the idea that it would be his fault for blowing their cover.
“Why ask me? The Princess is a better option for that.” Husk mumbled out, trying his best to keep eye contact with Alastor.
Charlie and Angel have been growing so close over the course of him staying their, it was obvious. Charlie almost seemed to be taking a sister role in his life.
“Well, somehow I doubt that!” Alastor laughed at that, Waving his hand in a seemingly joking manner. “You have answers to these questions, I’m sure.”
It felt like a bucket of ice was poured over his head at that, and he gulped.
“What do you wanna know, Boss?”
Alastor watched him for a few silent moments, the air tense as he leaned on right hand, smile sharp and wide.
“How is he?”
The question seems innocent enough and Husk slowly blinked before realizing he should probably answer the question.
“Fine.” Came Husks clipped reply, licking his lips and wishing he had a nice bottle of scotch. “Why do you want to know?”
Alastor clicked his tounge before “tsk”ing him, wagging a finger around like Husk was a bad child.
“I’m the one asking questions right now, not you.” The sentence put an end to his desire for questioning back, knowing that was a warning to back off.
“I’m glad he’s doing well. I caught him limping yesterday and I was wondering how he was.” Alastor took another drink, and Husk felt anger surge up at the reminder of Angels condition the night prior.
His ribs were bruised and his ankle twisted. His pure white fur matted with grim and sweat. Angle had limped into his room that night, face wearing a weary smile as he laughed almost hysterically.
‘Long day.’ Was all he said before collapsing on the floor, Husk having to lift him up and carry him to bed.
“Anyway, onto the real question.” Alastor continued to stare at Husk heavily, eyes unblinking and eery.
“Angel and you are fairly close.” Alastor leaned closer, smile sharpening as he did so. “Are you two soulmates perhaps?”
Husk felt his world shatter from that simple sentence.
“Oh my! I can tell from your face.” Alastor put a hand on his cheek, smile wide and eyes almost cruel in their glee. “You are, aren’t you?”
Husks face felt hot and his bones felt cold.
“Boss listen, it wont get in the way of anything, and we-“
Alastor promptly squished his cheeks together, the action comical but his grip harsh. The claws dug into his cheeks, making shallow pinprick wounds on his face.
“Oh hush up, you.” Alastor’s static was loud as Husk breathed quickly, panicked as he imagined Angel hurt in all sorts of gruesome ways. “It’s not as if I care.”
This gave Husk a pause.
“You don’t?”
Alastor released his face, leaving a vague stinging sensation from the tiny punctures.
“So long as you do your job it’s fine, and you’ve been doing splendidly!”
Husk felt relief fill him, closing his eyes in the intensity of it.
“Tell me.” Alastor tilted his head, and Husk surprisingly saw genuine curiosity there.
“What was it like finding out?”
Husk took a sharp breath at the memory.
It wasn’t until the third day at the hotel that Husk actually looked Angel in the eye. Before hand it was always on the bar or some other mass of white fluff Angel had.
It was an old habit Husk collected over the years,to avoid eye contact. He never wanted to met his soulmate, never wanted to greet the disappointment in their eyes and the inevitable leaving that would follow.
He never wanted to feel that hurt again, so he gave into a life of lonely grays and sterile whites. He’d never know the bright pastels and deep comforting colors.
He decided he was alright with that in the end.
Once in life he was in love, and he dated a woman. That woman he thought chose him just as he chose her. However…
Eventually that woman met her soulmate and he was left in the dust with nothing but emptiness and the cold.
That was until…
“Heya, Whiskers.” Came a flirtatious voice. Husk gave a low growl as the seductive spider strolled into the bar.
“What?” He snapped back, eyes glaring at Angels smirking mouth.
It was indeed a pretty mouth, but that didn’t impress Husk much. He’s seen a lot of pretty mouths in his life.
“Aw, don’t be like that.” Angel gave a baby voice as he spoke, his full lips puckering. “Be nicer to little ol’ me.”
“Fuck off.” Husk slammed a bottle of bourbon down on the bar, eyes narrowed. “Or order a drink.”
There was a baby like “aww” coming from Angel, and husk couldn’t help but find it Obnoxious.
“I only wanna order you for tonight~”
Husk felt his eye twitch before he gave a frustrated shout, his face snapping up to glare and tell off the spider properly.
“I’m tired of this fake bullshit!” Husk shouted out, staring into pretty pink eyes. “And-…”
Pink eyes and pink stripes go up and down the spiders white body.
His eye mismatched with black but there was a pretty almost pastel pink in both of his eyes.
“Oh.” Husk breathed out as the color bleeds over to other things. The yellow and reds of the hotel, the orange of the bar, the brown of the bourbon he sat down. “Oh…”
Angels face turned shocked too, staring directly at him and his face. Angels pink eyes turned shiny like he was going to cry as he muttered out a elegant “shit”.
The world was bright and colorful but all Husk could stare at was Angel and the pinks that surrounded him.
From his eyes to the stripes on his shirt to the color laced in his fur.
The color of his soulmate was pink.
“It was….enchanting.” Husk muttered out before he snorted and looked down. “And it was annoying.”
“Annoying you say?” Alastor spoke out, head tilting.
“Even after it got revealed I couldn’t stand him.” He answered looking back up into Alastor’s eyes. “Not until I broke down his walls some.”
After the reveal Angel went back to flirting with him and trying to get into his bed.
It wasn’t until he met him outside the bar he went to that they actually talked. And it was then that he realized what it was that really connected them.
It was then that Husk realized what a soulmate really was.
“Why, I thought that your type of soul bond was love at first sight!” Alastor seemed to jest, and Husk chuckled before shaking his head.
“That was never us.”
Alastor stared at him before setting his finished drink down and standing up.
“Your story intrigues me but I’m afraid there’s tasks I must tend to.” Alastor started to walk away, leaving up the stairs and Husk couldn’t help but watch him leave.
He feels his shoulders and wings relax at the absence of his ‘master’.
Husk, although more calm, couldn’t help but wonder over and over again.
Why is he so interested in Angel?
