Chapter Text
It was Valentine’s week, well, now day. Leonora dreaded this month, seeing all the Evers and Nevers being stupidly in love made her sick. For a long time, she would just hide behind a pile of spell books in her room, but this year she wanted to do some mischief. If she was miserable, then everybody should too.
The day started with the sun being the brightest it had ever been in a long time; couples could be seen at every corner. The steps of Leonora’s heels echoed as she walked on the bridge. Passing by a couple, Leonoras’ eye caught a rose behind the boy’s hand. With a slight movement of her finger, the rose slowly died. The boy showed the rose to the girl with a smile, which was received by a stomp on his feet. Leonora smiled at the sight of the scene. Making her way to Dovey's office, she felt a shiver coming through her body as she approached the door. She squinted her eyes in confusion, was she nervous? Or excited to see her nemesis?
With a quick shake of her head, Leonora ignored her thoughts. Opening the door, the instant smell of roses and vanilla wrapped her. The rays of the sun that were coming from the windows made the office feel like a warm afternoon, and sitting in the chair was the cause of her shivers.
“He doesn’t deserve you,” Dovey said to an ever girl before looking up to see the intense green eyes that were studying her.
Nervously, Dovey adjusted her dress with her hands, as if it was showing something.
“Lesso, don’t you knock? She said with a smile.
The girl that was sitting in the chair beside Dovey gave Leonora a quick look, and timidly said she had to go.
Leonora took a step back, giving the girl some room to pass beside her.
“You see, you scare my students,” Dovey said, rolling her eyes.
“Why was she crying?” Leonora asked in a tone of indifference
“Sigh, the boy she liked asked another girl to the Valentine’s ball” Dovey answered, standing up from the chair and looking for a teacup.
Every now and then, when Lesso would appear in her office, Dovey would make some tea. She had memorized Leonora's favorite one by just being attentive.
“Poor soul, isn’t that just the true ending of the world? Leonora said with a grin, separating her legs a little on the chair. Getting comfortable.
Dovey served the tea and went to give it to Leonora. For a second, she went dumb, Leonora had got rid of her coat and her tie. The sleeves of her blouse were rolled, and the way she was sitting could be considered a sin for the eye. Because of this, Dovey stumbled for a moment and the hot tea fell all over her hands and dress. The impact made her drop the cup, breaking as it hit the floor. Leonora's eyes, which were lost looking at something else, quickly made their way to Dovey.
“Oh, for the storian” Dovey cried, as she held her hands in pain.
With a quick movement, Leonora stood up and went to her.
“What happened?” she asked, in a worried tone.
“It’s nothing, don’t worry, I will give you another one,” Dovey said, trying not to make eye contact with the woman who was now very close to her.
“Don’t be ridiculous” Leonora said, making a wet towel appear and wrapping Dovey's hands.
“You don’t have to-“
“Can you let me?” Lesso said with an annoyed voice, looking into doveys brown teary eyes.
Clarissa made silence. Leonora guided her to the chair she was sitting in before. Dovey sat and watched how Leonora dragged the other chair close to her. Their faces facing each other, she was so close to Dovey that she could hear her breathing. Carefully Leonora unwrapped the wet towel from doveys hands. When she saw how red they were she wanted to kill her.
“How could you be so dumb; you just burned your hands for nothing,” Leonora said mad.
Clarissa didn’t answer, she just kept watching Leonora touch her hands and press the towel. With a movement of her fingers, Leonora made a cream appear. She then spread it on Dovey's hands. The movement was so careful, as if she didn’t want to break her.
“Why did you come to the office?
Leonora raised her eyes to doveys, a curl in the middle of her face “I just wanted to know what you were doing today” she said as if it was nothing.
“Oh…” dovey answered almost in a whisper.
The room went silent.
“I don’t know what’s happening to me today, I’ve been more clumsy than normal,” Dovey said with a shy chuckle.
God, the way she laughs even when she’s in pain makes me want to die
“Well have to put somebody to keep an eye on you” Leonora said as a joke
“Sometimes I think I already have somebody” Clarissa said, looking at Leonora, waiting for their eyes to meet.
Lesso looked at her, her eyes went from her stare to her lips. She could sense Clarissa’s nervous breaths. The rays of the sun making her watery eyes glisten like never before.
“ughm, I think with this you’re gonna be fine,” She said as she put a thin clothe in both of her arms quickly and ignored the comment.
Leonora shifted her body away from Clarissa’s, and just when she was going to stand up a knock on the door was heard.
“Come in” Dovey let out, still looking at Leonora’s eyes
“For Dean Dovey,” a man with a huge bouquet of roses said.
“Oh my” Dovey let out, grabbing the roses with her burnt hands
Leonora watched the sight of this and rolled her eyes. Even with her flesh burnt, she will still make time for stupid kings.
“Thank you,” Clarissa said to the man with a smile.
Leonora laid her body back on the chair, and crossing her arms, she watched Dovey put the roses in a vase closed by the window.
“A new suitor?” Leonora said in a raspy voice
“Yeah, just one of the many” Dovey said, a sight of sadness in her voice.
“How many have you received this week?”
Dovey sat back in the chair facing Leonora, giving her a shy look “Well… let’s just say some”
”Mhmm” was all Leonora answered.
“Well, I’ll let you with your roses,” she said, as she took her cane and coat.
“Wait, Leonora, didn’t you come here for something? Would you like to ask me something? Dovey said standing up and getting close to Leonora who had her hand on the doorknob.
Leonora stared at her for a moment, then her eyes caught sight of the roses.
“No” she said as she opened the door and left.
She started walking as fast as she could. I should’ve just stayed in my office today. She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn’t watch the figure right before her. With a thump, she crashed with Emma.
“Fucks sake” Leonora hissed.
“Red can you watch where you going?” Emma said, with a slight chuckle. She loved annoying the evil dean.
“Move,” Leonora said as she started walking again
“You drop something”
Lesso stopped walking, she turned around watching the single pink and white carnation in Emma’s hand.
“You can keep it,” she said looking at it in disappointment.
