Work Text:

Wukong never understood how to shop for groceries properly, he always used to just make clones of food with his cloning and shapeshifting powers, but he's started coughing up hairballs recently which grossed him out. So he struggled to tell the difference between brands in the middle of the milk aisle. “Do you need help bud?” a condescending voice asked. Wukong knew the voice of his ex-best friend. “Well, what do you want?” Wukong growled, turning around and dropping the milk. Wukong felt two thoughts at the sound of Macaque’s voice brought good and bad memories. Memories of lazy days on beaches and memories of Wukong’s lowest. Macaque grinned with pearly white teeth, dark hair, and a swaying tail. “You've got quite the belly there since I last saw you” Macaque teased, slipping into the shadows and appearing behind Wukong poking his stomach. Wukong shoved Macaque only for him to merge with the shadows again. “You should have stayed buried” Wukong huffed following macaques moving shadows. Macaque lunged at Wukong and Wukong braced himself, throwing Macaque to the ground. Macaque simply got back up and Wukong then lunged at him macaque followed suit meeting him. When Macaque was pushed to the floor and used his shadow clones to slow Wukong down, Wukong simply summoned his clones. The clones exploded into dust. Macaque ran beside Wukong slamming into him before Wukong got fed up, grabbed Macaque, and threw him. Wukong pinned Macaque to the ground. They stared at each other both out of breath. Macaque tried to slink back into the shadows but Wukong grabbed him by the neck pulling him out of the shadows “You disturbed me while I was simply going about my day and tried to kill me” Wukong tightened his grip on Macaque’s neck cutting off air. Wukongs heart ached at the sight of his ex-best friend struggling to breathe. Wukong remembered the days when they both drank and ate all day on the sunny beaches of Flower Fruit Mountain. Wukong gasped seeing Macaque dead again. Wukong could see the blood on his hands again. He could see Macaque's deformed face. It was too much. Wukong felt sick to his stomach remembering Macaque's cries of pain. He didn't mean to– it was an accident– Wukong felt vomit rise in his throat and he stumbled back and his grip on Macaque's throat faltered. Macaque slank into the shadows while soothing the mark left behind by Wukong.
