Work Text:

“Um… guys, this is kinda stupid.” Will says, watching the D&D game from his position of honor on the couch as they all play on the basement floor.

“Quiet. We’re in deep shit.” Lucas says, focused on the game.

They’re all ten, and despite Dustin’s complaints and Will’s confusion, they are playing, according to Mike and Lucas, ‘the biggest campaign ever.’

The prize is ‘a kiss from the fairest Will the Wise and his hand in marriage.’ Will thinks it’s weird, but Lucas and Mike are… really weirdly passionate about it, so now, instead of being one of the players, Will is… apparently the prize? It’s weird.

“Are you sure we can’t get a princess’s hand in marriage instead?” Dustin sighs.

“Who needs a princess when we have Will the Wise? Instead of some girl, we have the bravest, smartest, nicest, prettiest wizard in the whole world.” Mike dismisses.

Will’s cheeks heat up for the millionth time since they declared him to be the prize. “Mike!”

“It’s true!” Lucas says. “You’re really pretty, Will. I'd rather have your hand in marriage than some princesses’. Plus, you’re a super powerful wizard, so it makes a ton of political sense.”

Will’s face feels like it’s on fire, and he plays with a string on his sleeve to avoid looking at them. “You’re making me sound like a damsel.”

Mike shakes his head vehemently. “No way! Will the Wise isn’t a damsel - he’s a super badass, powerful wizard. He just also is a really pretty wizard.”

“Yeah! We’re fighting goblins for Will the Wise’s hand. We wouldn’t do that for some damsel - but for Will the Wise? Hell yeah!”

Dustin rolls his eyes, crossing his arms. “I still think it’s weird.”

“Shut up, Dustin!” Lucas says, reaching for the dice.

Will zones out, tuning out their bickering and the sounds of them playing, until-

“NO!”

“What?”

“YOU CHEATED!”

“I don’t even want to kiss Will!”

Will snaps back to reality. “What?”

Both Lucas and Mike are looking at Dustin like he spat on their grandmothers’ graves, and Dustin himself looks downright bewildered.

“Dustin just won.” Lucas says slowly.

“He cheated!” Mike shouts.

“Did not!”

“Did too!”

“So… you’re married to me now.” Dustin says, turning to Will. “Awesome. I get to be married to my best friend.”

“Yup.” Will agrees.

“And I kiss you now?” Dustin asks.

Will gives a small smile. “Fair’s fair.”

Both Mike and Lucas shout in protest as Dustin leans over and presses his lips to Will’s for a millisecond before sitting back down. “He's my wife now.”

Will may be embarrassed, but he still laughs as Mike and Lucas both throw popcorn at Dustin.

They may be weird, but they're his friends, and Will loves them anyway.
