"It hurts...!" Gailardia practically wailed as he sits up, his arm cradled close to his chest and his back slumped against the tree he'd been climbing moments before.
The blurry figure of Mary knelt down next to him and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Honestly, I told you that you were going to fall. Now, stop crying."
Gailardia sniffled, barely managing it. "I just wanted to watch for Van. He said he'd come over, but he never does anymore. What if he misses my birthday?"
"He won't," Mary said. "If he does, I'll give him a stern talking to."
