Work Text:
while sometimes they’d request specific drinks, meiko tends to make drinks for them without them having to say anything. something about a space made from your emotions means all the vocaloids know just a bit too much.
meiko places drinks in front of each of them. toya gets a black coffee. akito a flat white. and an and kohane receiving near identical iced mocha mint lattes, with the exception of kohanes whipped cream topping. akito and toya glare at kohanes drink.
“since when was your favorite mint?” toya asks finally.
“hmm?” kohane asks, straw still in her mouth.
akito nods towards her drink. “what happened to your cafe mocha?”
kohane looks down in almost shock. “i hadn’t realized, honestly.” akito coughs in what sounds suspiciously like “gay”.
“what was that?” an asks.
“nothing.” akito says looking smug. “i didn’t say anything.”
“she hasn’t even had the cafe mocha in ages!” an protests, throwing an arm around kohane. “she’d been getting that. uh.” she turns to kohane and speaks quieter, “the tea one with nuts?” kohane whispers her order back and an proudly says “roasted tea latte with nuts and chocolate!” kohane nods in support.
——
kohane was not prepared for this exam. she’d been stressing endlessly about it. but an was not a resource she could depend on this time. last time they studied together it was just the two of them cuddling for about four hours straight. no matter how many times kohane tried to pull an back to their textbooks, an gave a set of puppy eyes that had kohane unable to continue her pleas.
the time before that was actually just kohane teaching an the whole time any parts she could understand about chemistry. she didn’t end up learning anything new in that process. except that an’s belief that snacks lower stress did hold at least some truth.
so she found herself reaching for a pack gum. she didn’t notice fully what she was doing until a stick was already partially chewed in her mouth. but it helped. she got lost within equations and theories until the gum was stiff and flavorless. the mint scent holding in her breath.
——
the two walk hand in hand to kohanes house. it’s a bit cold and kohane regrets not asking for an’s jacket sooner, but suffers in the cold. the warmth of her constant blush and of another person so close helps more than she cares to admit. maybe, kohane thinks to herself, an’s hands were made to fit in mine. she can’t help but smile at the thought. the two pieces of a puzzle clicking just right. an turns to kohane and the two stop.
“what’s got you so smiley?”
“oh i don’t know,” kohane glances to an’s lips for a moment before looking at her again. “there’s this really cute girl i’ve been wanting to ask for a kiss. not sure if im her type though,” she says, stepping on her tiptoes, a clear request that an obliges.
“i hear she finds blondes very attractive,” an affirms, gently placing a hand on kohanes cheek and pulling the other closer. their lips slot into place, and all kohane can taste is mint.
