Banished To an Air Mattress

Summary:

yet again based on a prompt by otpprompts on tumblr:
;; Imagine your OTP having to share an air mattress for the night. Person A is already in bed and comfortable, and person B, very tired from the day, flops down on the other side, thus launching A into the air. ;;

i put so much more fluff into this because I AM GAY.
that moment when you post more than once a month

Work Text:

“Matthew, why are you setting up an air mattress?” Stephanie said from the doorframe, startling her husband.

“A-ah, Steph! I found a giant rip in our old mattress. So we have to get a new one. But it's too late to… go shopping.” Matthew laughed nervously, standing up from his position on the floor near the pump.

“Oh…” Steph paused, eyes lingering on Matthew, “That does check out. We have had the mattress for a long time. Let me help you out.” Stephanie took the folded sheet that was next to the air mattress, and the couple spent the next 20 minutes setting up their emergency bed together. As soon as they finished, Matthew scurried away to finish all the scripts and recordings he had piled up.

Matthew sighed, finally getting out of the recording closet. His back ached and cracked as he stood, starting Skip, of who had settled himself outside of the door.

“Sorry buddy.” The two headed to Matt and Steph's shared room, and Matthew got comfortable on the air mattress, waiting for Stephanie to crawl in beside him. The thought of his life partner made him blush, and think back on old memories, and eventually his subconscious being really sappy about her. He could get lost in her eyes any day. He loved her laugh, he loved the way she would fake vomit at his cheesiness. He loved how when they were live streaming, she would sometimes be a little clingier, and he loved when they were off-camera, and she looked at him with pure, unfiltered adoration. He loved the way she still had this uncanny effect on him, that would make him blush furiously and fall deeper in love with her. He loved the way she would steal his t-shirts, and the way she loved Skip.

Before Matthew could fall any more in love with Stephanie, said person walked into the room, and yawned. Skip jumped onto the middle of the air mattress, but Matthew shooed him off in fear of his claws popping the mattress. He chose not to think about the fact that he might have done that so he could be closer to his wife.

After waiting for her to change, Matthew watched as Stephanie sidled over to the air mattress, and flopped onto it. In result, Matthew lifted off the surface and fell off the side.

“Oh my gosh, are you okay, Matthew?” Stephanie asked, alarmed.

“Yeah, I’m fine!” Matthew said between laughter, pushing himself off of the floor.

“I’m so sorry, oh my gosh-” Stephanie started to laugh a bit as well, pulling her husband up a little.

“Don’t apologise, I was about to fall asleep.” He chuckled, settling next to Stephanie.

“Well maybe you should go to sleep, you always look exhausted.” Steph said, worry painting her face.

“Aw gee thanks.” Matthew chuckled.

“No, not like that. You don’t get enough sleep, hon,” Stephanie pushed some of Matthews' hair out of his face, and he smiled, “And I know it comes with the job, but it worries me a lot. We have so many writers, why don’t you take a few days off?”

“I wish that was how it worked.” Matthew said, running his hands down Stephanie’s arms.

“I know.” Stephanie whispered.

“I’m totally getting you back for throwing me off the bed, by the way.” Matthew whispered, and Steph gasped.

“Not if I do it first.” Stephanie laughed, and Matthew chuckled.

“I love you.” Matthew whispered, shuffling closer to his wife.

“I love you too,” Stephanie said, putting a hand on the back of Matthew’s neck, “More than you will ever know.” Steph planted her lips onto Matthews’, hoping to convey all the love she felt for him in this one act of affection. Stephanie pulled away first, blushing intensely. She smiled, and buried her face in Matthew’s chest. Matthew chuckled, and pulled her closer, trapping her in his arms.

“Matt, let me go, I’m tired.” Steph giggled slightly, and Matthew, instead of letting her go, flopped down into a lying position, and - obviously - took Steph with him.

Stephanie wriggled out of his grasp slightly, and managed to end up at eye level before he trapped her in his arms again.

“Goodnight, Matthew.” She tiredly smiled, wrapping her arms around him, too.

“Goodnight, my love."

Notes:

I had to look up if people put sheets on air mattresses for this one because I don't anf apparantly you're supposed to???
also the thing I got "inspiration" from was the one quote about at having spikes in his bedroom which is why the actual mattress is ripped.
