stars long dead

Summary:

From her position on the ground, Mizi has begun to paw at Ivan’s shoes, miserably whining. “I miss Sua….”

He takes the phone away from his ear to tap the speaker button. “Sua,” he calls, “You’re on speaker. Say something.” Dear god, please, please give him patience, “please.” He adds.

“Mizi? Mizi, stardust. It’s me.” Sua says softly, voice low and concerned. “Are you alright?”

The reaction is instantaneous. Mizi’s bolting upright, eyes wide and frenzied as she tackles Ivan for the phone. “Sua!” She shouts, voice cracking. “Sua, are you in there? Suaaaa! Sua, I’ll save you Sua-!” She babbles, holding the phone up like it’s the promised child.

Sua leaves Mizi alone for a couple hours, leaving Ivan behind to watch her. It goes about as well as you expect.

Chapter Text

Mizi doesn’t remember how she got there. She stares blankly at the rocky wall in front of her, the bricks set atop each other offering nothing but silence. There’s a few posters littering the wall, she realizes. It’s a strangely familiar room. Not that she can figure out why.

Hyuna had begun teaching her how important it was to memorize key details of an environment. It was critical to zero in on what could help or hinder you in a space, especially a closed one.

But everything was far too fuzzy for her to do so.

Mizi tries to wiggle her fingers. She doesn’t even feel it when they move. Her whole body is tingly; as if she’s been sent through an electrical socket headfirst.

A voice clears its throat.

“Mizi?” A male voice asks cautiously. It’s also familiar! Why is that?   The voice sighs, sounding so far away yet simultaneously close by. “Nevermind,” it says. “You’re still out of it.”

I feel very with it! She wants to protest, but her vocal chords refuse to cooperate.

“Well, since it’s just me and you,” the voice continues, dragging her attention back, “guess I might as well talk away. Sua will have my head if I don’t. She said.. Hm.. What did she say? Oh, right. ‘The best thing to do when Mizi gets like this is just talk.’ Talk, and talk, and talk some more, apparently. And that makes sense, all things considered, I suppose.”

Sua? Her brain locks onto that singular mention of her everything. Sua’s here? She brightens. Sua’s here! Sua!

Mizi looks around the room wildly, eyes wide and bright as she tries to spot the love of her life. Once her eyes lock onto the voice she’s been hearing, and she’s instantly met with disappointment when she realizes it’s not Sua.

A face she now groggily recognizes as Ivan blinks, surprise lighting up his features at her sudden actions. He recovers swiftly, however, quickly schooling his expression into one of detached amusement.

The pink-haired girl frowns. “Ivan..?” The fuzzy feeling in her brain deepens. “Sua.”

There’s a pause. Ivan looks sad. Why is he sad?

“She’ll be here soon,” Ivan says calmly.

Where is she, though?

“If Sua isn’t here-..” Mizi breaks off.

There’s no if.

Sua isn’t here. Sua’s gone. Sua’s not with her.

Fear sparks all over her body, pricking and stabbing at her nerves. She goes to struggle to her feet, ready to chase after where Sua could possibly be—

—Only to trip over herself and fall backwards onto the ground. As she lets out a pained groan, Mizi lays there, confused and afraid.

“What on earth—?”

“I need Sua,” Mizi whimpers, grasping her hair in her hands. She doesn’t even hear Ivan speak. All she knows is that she can’t be without Sua. They can’t be apart. They can’t be separated. What is she without Sua?

Subconsciously, she begins to tug on her hair, attempting to rip out the strands. She can’t do this. She can’t do this without Sua. Her mind begins to loop, repeating Sua’s name over and over in a mantra, praying that somehow, it’ll make the girl appear. Sua, Sua, Sua--

Ivan lets out a sound of understanding. She doesn’t even hear him, too wrapped up in her prayers. He frowns as he notices her grabbing at her hair.

“Hey. Quit that,” he scolds, careful not to touch her. He knows better than to try restraining her right now. That’s never helped him, and he knows it definitely won’t help Mizi.

“You’re going to go bald, and then what will you do?” He asks. He can’t believe Hyuna sent him for this. Surely Till would’ve been a better option, or even Hyuna herself?

She sniffles. “..Sua…”

“Lord almighty,” Ivan mutters under his breath. “Okay. I’ll get you Sua.”

She sniffs. “Sua..?” Her grip loosens on her hair as she stares at Ivan, eyes watery and hopeful.

“Yes, yes, Sua. Look. I’ll call her right now, okay?”

“Sua…” Mizi hiccups, tears beginning to stream down her face.

Ivan feels something in his chest curl. He can’t tell if it’s from disgust or annoyance. It feels.. soft. Which can’t be right. So he ignores it, discarding the feeling off to the side as he grabs his phone from his jacket pocket. He puts in Sua’s number, and soon the infernal device begins to ring.

“Hello? Ivan? What’re you—”

“Your.. beloved wants you.” He says slowly. He ignores the fire that burns beneath his chest at the words.

It’s not that he’s jealous.

He isn’t.

He just thinks it’s ridiculous how lost they are for one another. (As if he isn't the one endlessly spinning around for a boy with gravel colored hair and sea-green eyes.)

“Mizi? She’s with you?” Sua hisses, and he can practically imagine her gripping the phone tighter. “Why the hell is she—”

From her position on the ground, Mizi has begun to paw at Ivan’s shoes, miserably whining. “I miss Sua….”

He takes the phone away from his ear to tap the speaker button. “Sua,” he calls, “You’re on speaker. Say something.” Dear god, please, please give him patience, “ please .” He adds.

“Mizi? Mizi, stardust. It’s me.” Sua says softly, voice low and concerned. “Are you alright?”

Meanwhile, Ivan tumbles flat on his back, swearing and staring up at the ceiling as he lies there. He sighs. This is what babysitting gets him. ..Goddammit.

“Mizi, Mizi- Oh, Mizi.. It’s okay. I’ll be there soon, okay?” She coos, and he can feel himself shuddering. “Give me a couple minutes.”

Mizi nods aggressively, swallowing. “I love you,” she mumbles, clenching the phone tightly. “I love you, I love you, I love you,” she repeats, eyes fluttering shut at Sua’s giggles.

“I love you too, Mizi.” Sua says. He can actually hear her smile. This is torture, Ivan thinks.

Ivan sighs. “Can I have my phone back?”

“No!!”

“No.”

Damn.
