“Jeonginnie! Lixie!” Chan calls from the entrance door, packing the last essentials - Felix’s favorite floatie, a beachball and the bottle of sunscreen they’d purchased the day before - for their beach day. He can hear them screaming in excitement, playing and running around. “We’re leaving!”
Minho arrives with a blue cooler, a beach bag filled to the brim and his beach hat. He pecks Chan on the cheek and the hat almost falls from his head.
“Did you pack Felix’s floatie?” he asks Chan as he starts picking up from the floor as many bags as he can, the car keys dangling from his pinkie.
“Yeah,” he replies. “Did you get the kids dressed?”
Minho huffs.
“Barely. Those two are so excited about the beach day they looked blurry.”
Chan chuckles, endeared by the mental image.
“Jeonginnie! Lixie!” He calls again once he’s also packed like a mule. He doesn’t know how, but they’ve managed to carry everything. Chan realizes things have gotten a lot easier since they stopped needing strollers, but if he wanted easy he wouldn’t have had kids, right? “It’s time to leave!” He adds, trying to escape that line of thought. It is not the time to miss strollers.
The noise coming from Felix’s room doesn’t tamper down. Chan looks at Minho in a plea for help, who rolls his eyes as if he’s not about to enjoy the teasing he’s about to do.
“I guess it’s just dad and I going to the beach today since Jeonginnie and Lixie prefer staying here playing in their room,” he says as if he’s talking to himself, loudly enough for his voice to reach the kids. There is a sudden eerie silence. “We’ll have so much fun by ourselves building sand castles and swimming in the sea and-”
The stampede that comes down the hall effectively cuts him off.
“No, appa, don’t go without us!” Felix is the first one to arrive, colliding with Minho in his hurry. Minho huffs, as if he would dare to do so. Before he gets to say anything, Jeongin is already there too, following his hyung right behind.
“Appa, you’re really going to swim today?” Jeongin asks, his eyes big as saucers.
“You’ll only know if you come with us…” Minho plays it mysterious. He doesn’t plan on going too deep into the water, maybe soaking his feet a little bit and, if it’s too hot, maybe he’ll soak his ankles, calves and even knees too.
That said, if Jeongin and Felix pull the deadly combined pout card he might end up caving in, but that’s not something he’ll say out loud.
The kids start yelling about how much they want to go to the beach with them, to please not leave them back at home, and reciting an endless list of things they want to do at the beach, and both Chan and Minho think that they’re too cute for their own good.
