Chapter Text
The courtroom was a battleground of logic and rhetoric, and it suited Gojo Satoru just fine. Standing at the defendant’s podium, the sorcerer leaned lazily against the wood, his signature blindfold concealing his sky-blue eyes. Despite the gravity of the situation, he wore his usual smirk. Across the room, Phoenix Wright stood at the defense's bench, his spiky hair as sharp as his wits.
"Your Honor," Phoenix began, adjusting his tie nervously. "My client, Gojo Satoru, is accused of... public endangerment, property destruction, and—"
"Being too cool for the law," Gojo quipped, cutting him off. His voice was smooth, unbothered, and entirely unserious.
Phoenix sighed. "—and reckless use of his cursed techniques in a populated area."
The judge, a rotund man with a thick white beard, banged his gavel to silence the murmurs in the gallery. "Mr. Gojo, this is a serious trial. I suggest you take it seriously."
"Serious is my middle name," Gojo replied with a wink, despite the blindfold.
The prosecutor, Miles Edgeworth, stepped forward, his silver hair glinting under the courtroom lights. His refined demeanor was as sharp as the suit he wore. "Your Honor, the evidence against the defendant is overwhelming. We have multiple witnesses who saw him obliterate half a city block with some sort of... energy dome." He emphasized the words as though they were absurd, which, to him, they were.
"It’s called Hollow Purple, thank you very much," Gojo corrected, grinning. "And I only blew up half the block because I was aiming for the cursed spirit. Not my fault the building couldn’t handle it."
Phoenix pinched the bridge of his nose. "Gojo, please—stop talking."
Edgeworth smirked. "The defense seems to have its hands full already. Shall we move to the evidence?"
The judge nodded. "Proceed."
Edgeworth clicked a button on his remote, and the court screen displayed a grainy video. It showed Gojo standing in the middle of a crowded street, casually tossing what appeared to be a massive ball of energy. A moment later, the screen filled with an explosion of violet light. People screamed, debris rained down, and the footage cut to static.
Gojo leaned closer to Phoenix. "You have to admit, that looked pretty cool, right?"
Phoenix groaned. "Cool isn’t a legal defense."
Edgeworth stepped closer, pointing at the screen. "The footage speaks for itself. Mr. Gojo’s recklessness put countless lives at risk."
Before Phoenix could respond, Gojo raised a hand. "Objection!" he called, mimicking Phoenix’s iconic pose.
The courtroom fell silent, the judge raising an eyebrow. "You’re the defendant. You can’t object."
"Can’t I, though?" Gojo asked, his grin widening. "Look, Edgeworth, I get it. You’re jealous. I mean, I’d be jealous too if I couldn’t bend space and time to my will."
Phoenix slapped his forehead. "Your Honor, my client’s... unique personality aside, I’d like to call attention to the fact that no one was actually hurt during this incident."
Edgeworth’s smirk faltered. "That’s irrelevant. The destruction—"
"No, it’s entirely relevant," Phoenix interjected, pointing dramatically. "If my client’s actions were truly reckless, there would have been casualties. But as you’ll see in the witness testimonies, Gojo ensured everyone was safely out of harm’s way before engaging the cursed spirit."
Edgeworth narrowed his eyes. "You’re suggesting that the defendant calculated every move in the midst of chaos?"
"Exactly!" Phoenix exclaimed, slamming his hands on the bench. "And I have a witness to prove it!"
The courtroom doors swung open dramatically, and Yuji Itadori stumbled inside, waving. "Sorry I’m late!"
Phoenix gestured toward Yuji. "This is Itadori Yuji, a student of the defendant. He was present during the incident and can attest to Mr. Gojo’s intent."
Yuji took the stand, looking slightly intimidated by the formal atmosphere. "Uh, yeah, so basically, Sensei—uh, I mean, Gojo-sensei—told me to evacuate everyone before he fought the curse. He said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ve got this. I’ll make it flashy but harmless.’"
Edgeworth’s composure cracked for a split second. "Flashy but harmless?"
Yuji nodded earnestly. "That’s his whole thing."
The judge stroked his beard. "Hmm. This does paint a different picture. Mr. Edgeworth, do you have anything to counter this testimony?"
Edgeworth frowned, clearly frustrated. "The destruction alone—"
"—was necessary," Phoenix interrupted, "to eliminate a dangerous cursed spirit that could have caused far greater harm. Gojo was acting in the interest of public safety."
The judge leaned back, contemplating. "Mr. Gojo, do you have anything to say in your defense?"
Gojo finally straightened up, his smirk softening into a sincere smile. "Your Honor, I know I’m a bit... unconventional. But everything I did was to protect people. That’s my job as the strongest sorcerer. Sure, I might’ve overdone it a little, but no one got hurt. And if I hadn’t acted, a lot more people would’ve been in danger."
The judge nodded slowly. "I see. Given the lack of casualties and the testimony provided, I am inclined to rule in favor of the defendant. Mr. Gojo, please exercise more caution in the future."
Gojo saluted playfully. "You got it, Your Honor."
The gavel came down with a bang. "Case dismissed!"
As the courtroom erupted into murmurs, Gojo turned to Phoenix. "See? Told you I had it under control."
Phoenix slumped over his desk. "I’m never taking another cursed sorcerer case again."
End.
