Snake Boi Callum Week 3.0 Nov 19 – Your Deepest Truth/Complicated

Work Text:

The battlefield was chaos incarnate, a storm of shadow and flame as Aaravos, now free from his prison and towering like a goliath, razed the world around them. The earth trembled beneath Callum’s feet, the sky roiled with dark clouds, and lightning tore across the heavens, illuminating the devastation in brief, violent flashes.

Callum’s heart pounded in his chest as he watched the destruction unfold. The sky staff pulsed with energy in his hand, the familiar hum of magic thrumming through his veins. But this time, the power he needed wasn’t just from the sky. He could feel it—dark magic—lurking in the corners of his mind, whispering promises of strength, of victory, of salvation.

Rayla’s hand on his arm grounded him, her touch soft but urgent. “Callum, please,” she pleaded, her voice trembling. “You know what Kosmo said. If you use dark magic again, it could overwhelm you… you could be lost.”

He turned to her, eyes locking onto hers. There was fear in those violet depths, a fear that mirrored his own, but also something more—love, raw and unfiltered. He reached up, cupping her face with his free hand, brushing away a tear with his thumb. “I’ll be fine, Rayla. I have to do this. I can save everyone. I can save you.”

Her breath hitched, and more tears welled up in her eyes. She shook her head, her grip on his arm tightening as if she could hold him back by sheer force of will. “Callum, I can’t lose you. Please, don’t do this.”

Her voice cracked on the last word, and it was like a knife to his heart. He wanted nothing more than to stay by her side, to find another way, but the devastation around them left him no choice. Aaravos had to be stopped, and if dark magic was the only way, then he would pay that price.

“I love you,” Rayla whispered, her voice barely audible over the roar of the battle. She held his gaze, desperate, as if she could will him to change his mind.

“I love you too,” Callum replied, his voice steady despite the turmoil within him. “But you won’t lose me. I’ll come back to you. I promise.”

Rayla’s expression wavered, uncertainty and fear warring with her trust in him. “You don’t know that,” she whispered, her voice breaking.

He leaned in, intending to press a kiss to her forehead, but Rayla wouldn’t let him go that easily. Her hands slid to the back of his neck, pulling him down into a deep, desperate kiss, pouring all her fear, love, and longing into that one moment. Callum responded just as fervently, as if trying to imprint this moment into his very soul, a reminder of what he was fighting for.

When they finally parted, both breathless, Callum rested his forehead against hers for a brief second, their breaths mingling. “I’ll come back,” he whispered one last time.

Rayla let him go, though her heart screamed for her to hold on. As he turned away and mounted his horse, her eyes never left him, silently pleading for him to return as the chaos of battle closed in around them.

Callum rode towards the towering figure of Aaravos, his heart a mix of resolve and fear. The dark magic thrummed inside him, growing stronger as he approached, whispering dark promises that sent shivers down his spine. But he pushed those thoughts away, focusing on Rayla, on Ezran, on everyone he loved who was depending on him.

Aaravos turned his gaze on Callum, his eyes glowing with an ancient, malevolent power. The air crackled with energy, the very ground seeming to tremble beneath the elf’s wrath. Callum raised the sky staff, summoning every ounce of strength within him. The dark magic surged, and with it, the spell began to take form.

The world around him seemed to blur as Callum chanted, the words of dark magic foreign and heavy on his tongue. It felt like pulling at the fabric of reality itself, bending it to his will. The power was immense, threatening to consume him, but he held on, focusing on the one deep truth that anchored him—Rayla.

Not without effort and struggle, the spell was successful. A wave of dark energy erupted from the sky staff, engulfing Aaravos. The giant Startouch elf roared, his form flickering as the magic took hold, pulling at the very essence of his being. For a moment, it seemed as if the spell wouldn’t be enough, as if Aaravos would break free and destroy them all.

But then, with a final, godless cry, Aaravos was enveloped in darkness, his form dissipating into nothingness.

Silence fell over the battlefield, the destruction halted, but the aftermath was far from over.

Callum remained on his horse for a heartbeat longer, his staff still raised, his body trembling from the effort. Then, as if a switch had been flipped, the energy drained from him, and he slumped forward. His eyes, once clear, were now fully black, the dark magic leaving its mark on him. For a terrifying moment, they flashed with a sickly purple and blue light before returning to normal—just as Callum’s consciousness slipped away.

Rayla was already running towards him, her heart pounding in her chest. She barely registered the presence of her parents, Ezran, and Soren as they all rushed to Callum’s side. All that mattered was getting to him, reaching him before he fell.

She was too late to stop him from collapsing, but she wasn’t too late to catch him. Rayla dove forward, her knees hitting the ground hard as she reached out, pulling Callum into her arms just as he began to fall. His weight was heavy, his body limp as he crumpled against her, his head resting in the crook of her arm. Her knees cushioned his fall, but there was no relief in her heart, only a cold, gnawing fear.

“Callum!” she cried, her voice breaking as she cradled him, her hands trembling. His eyes were closed now, his face pale, and for a horrifying moment, Rayla thought she might have lost him after all.

Rayla gently ran her fingers through Callum’s hair, her touch soft and trembling as she traced the thick white streak near his brow—the mark of the dark magic he’d used. Her fingers lingered there, the evidence of his sacrifice a painful reminder of the risk he had taken. She gently traced his face, her heart breaking with each moment of silence that followed.

“Callum?” she whispered, her voice barely more than a breath. There was no response. She tried again, her voice small and fragile, “Callum, please, you have to come back—” Her voice broke on the last word, a sob escaping her as she leaned in, pressing his forehead to hers. “Callum, please,” she pleaded, tears streaming down her face. “Darling, you have to come back.”

Her words were met with a silence that felt like an eternity. Callum lay still, his chest rising and falling with shallow breaths, but his eyes remained closed, unresponsive. The enormity of what had happened pressed down on Rayla, making her feel as though she was sinking into a void of despair.

Ezran knelt beside her, his own worry etched deeply into his features. He watched, a pained expression on his face as Rayla clung to Callum, but he gave her the space she needed. With a heavy heart, he placed an arm around Rayla, leaning into her side. His own tears mingled with hers as he buried his head in her shoulder, finding solace in the closeness of his sister and the shared anguish they both felt.

Rayla continued to hold Callum, her sobs quiet but relentless, a desperate plea for him to return to them. Every second that passed felt like a cruel test of their endurance, but she refused to let go, her love for Callum keeping her rooted in hope even as the darkness loomed large.

—

In the depths of Callum’s mind, the battlefield melted away, replaced by a void where darkness seemed to pulse and writhe. Aaravos stood before him, no longer a giant but now of Callum’s own height, his presence no less terrifying. The Startouch elf’s eyes glowed with a malevolent light, a smirk playing at the corners of his lips.

“You’re quite the fool, Callum,” Aaravos taunted, his voice echoing with a sinister undertone. “She warned you, didn’t she? And yet, you still left her alone, forever grieving.”

Callum’s breath came in sharp, ragged gasps as he faced his nemesis, his heart pounding from the strain of the dark magic and the weight of Aaravos’s words. He clenched his fists, trying to steady himself, but the taunts cut through him like knives.

“I always knew you’d destroy yourself in your efforts to destroy me,” Aaravos continued, circling Callum with a predatory grace. “You think you’re saving the world, but all you’re doing is tearing yourself apart. You always loved her a little too much, didn’t you? And now, look at you. You’re paying the price.”

The words echoed in the void, each one a cruel reminder of the sacrifice Callum had made. Aaravos’s form seemed to flicker and distort, but his voice remained clear, relentless.

“You know the toll this takes on you,” Aaravos sneered, stepping closer. “The mark it’ll leave. She’ll hate you now, think you’re a monster. How does it feel to know that your love will become your downfall? That she’ll see the darkness in you and turn away in horror?”

Callum tried to push through the shadows of doubt and pain, but Aaravos’s words resonated deeply, feeding on his insecurities. He could almost see Rayla’s face, twisted with fear and disappointment, her eyes filled with tears as she looked upon him with revulsion.

“No,” Callum muttered, shaking his head, though his voice wavered. “She… she’ll understand. She has to. I did this to protect her, to protect everyone.”

Aaravos’s laughter was a chilling sound, reverberating through the dark space. “Protect them? You’re only protecting yourself from the consequences of your choices. You think you’re noble, but you’re nothing more than a broken man, clinging to delusions of heroism.”

The darkness seemed to close in around Callum, the pressure of Aaravos’s words making it harder to breathe, harder to think. Every attempt to fight back felt futile against the crushing weight of the elf’s manipulations.

“Face it, Callum,” Aaravos hissed, his voice dropping to a menacing whisper. “You’re lost. You’ve always been lost. And soon, everyone you love will see you for what you truly are—a monster forged in darkness, unworthy of their love.”

Callum’s resolve wavered, the darkness threatening to consume him. Yet, a glimmer of the love he felt for Rayla, for Ezran, and for those he fought to protect flickered in his heart. It was a fragile, tenuous light, but it was enough to keep him from being swallowed whole by the darkness.

He took a shuddering breath, fighting against the encroaching void. “No,” he repeated, his voice gaining strength. “I won’t let you win. I have to go back. I have to.”

Aaravos’s laughter echoed in the void, a dark symphony that twisted through Callum’s mind. “What was it you said?” the Startouch elf mocked, leaning closer, his eyes glimmering with malice. “Destiny is a book you write yourself?” He chuckled mirthlessly, the sound chilling. “What a lovely little lie to tell yourself, especially after you knew your fate was already written.”

As Aaravos’s taunts washed over him, Callum felt the weight of despair pushing down on his shoulders, like it was trying to bury him alive, the darkness creeping in at the edges of his consciousness. But then, amid the shadows, something stirred within him—another flicker of warmth that refused to be extinguished.

Suddenly, memories began to flood his mind—vivid, joyous moments shared with Rayla and Ezran. Laughter rang out as they explored the forests together, the sound of Rayla’s playful teasing echoing in his ears. He could see her smiling face, the way her eyes sparkled with life, and feel the warmth of her hand in his.

Her soft lips pressing against his.

He remembered the late-night conversations under the stars, their dreams interwoven with whispered hopes, the way they’d faced the darkness together. Each memory surged like a wave, pushing back against the tide of despair. The love he felt for them—their shared connection—became a lifeline pulling him away from the depths.

“No!” Callum shouted, shaking his head as if to clear away the shadows. “It’s not a lie! It’s the truth!”

Aaravos raised an eyebrow, a mocking smirk still on his lips. “Oh, is it now?” he taunted, but Callum’s resolve only strengthened in response.

“I know it is!” Callum asserted, his expression hardening as determination ignited within him. “It’s as true as the sunrise. There may be darkness inside me, but the light—my love—is greater.”

He drew in a deep breath, the warmth of his memories flooding through him like a radiant tide. “My love for her is true, because she is my truth. My deepest truth. And fate can’t change that. Nothing can.”

With those words, the weight of darkness began to lift, and the shadows that had clung to him shrank back in fear. Callum felt the surge of power within him—a light that pushed against the encroaching void, illuminating the corners of his mind where despair had once thrived.

As he rounded on Aaravos, the Startouch elf faltered, surprise flickering across his features. “You think you can resist me?” he hissed, but Callum’s heart was no longer bound by fear.

“I will never let you win,” Callum declared, his voice resonating with newfound strength. “I fight for them, for my family, for the love that binds us. You’re nothing but a shadow, and I am the light.”

As Callum rounded on Aaravos, the Startouch elf’s surprise was palpable. He straightened, his expression darkening with contempt. “You think you can resist me?” Aaravos sneered. “Even if you have a light inside you, the darkness remains. It may be small now compared to your light, but it will grow. And eventually, it will consume you.”

Callum’s heart pounded, but he stood firm, his resolve unshaken. “I won’t let it,” he said, his voice steady. “I won’t let the darkness win.”

Aaravos’s smirk widened, a glint of malevolence in his eyes. “We’ll see,” he said, his voice dripping with cold amusement. “We’ll see how long your precious light can hold out against the darkness within.”

With those final words, Aaravos’s form began to dissolve into the shadows, his presence fading into the void. The dark elf’s laughter echoed one last time, a chilling reminder of the battle that still lay ahead.

As Aaravos vanished, the oppressive darkness began to lift, the void clearing into a serene expanse of shimmering light. Callum found himself standing in a vast, starry sky, the ground beneath him a glistening reflection of the heavens above. For a moment, he simply breathed, the weight of the battle still heavy on his chest, but a strange peace settling over him.

Then he saw her.

At first, it was just a faint glimmer—a cluster of stars swirling into form. But soon, the light coalesced into a familiar figure. Rayla, yet not entirely her. She was made of countless shimmering blue stars, each one softly glowing, her luminous eyes like twin galaxies, warm and comforting. Her smile, radiant as always, made his breath hitch.

“Rayla?” Callum whispered, his voice catching.

She stepped toward him, the starlight around her swirling gently with every movement. When she extended her hand, it was steady, real. “I knew you could do it, love,” she said, her voice gentle yet strong, echoing with a resonance that seemed to come from within him.

Callum reached out hesitantly, his hand brushing hers. It felt warm, solid—just as he remembered. He squeezed it, his heart aching with the weight of the moment. “You’ve always had faith in me, haven’t you?”

“Always,” she echoed, her smile soft and sure. She stepped closer, her free hand lifting to rest lightly against his chest. The warmth of her touch seeped into him, soothing and invigorating all at once. “I really love you, you know,”

Callum’s lips curved into a tender smile. “I know. I really love you, too.”

Rayla leaned in, her constellation form glowing brighter as she kissed him. Callum froze for a heartbeat, unsure of what kissing a being of stars would feel like—but it was exactly as it always had been. Her lips were soft and warm, the kind of kiss that made the world fade away. Her hand slid from his chest to cup his cheek, her touch anchoring him, grounding him in the overwhelming light.

He kissed her back, his arms wrapping instinctively around her luminous form. The stars shifted and pulsed under his touch, as if alive with the depth of their shared emotion.

Callum kissed her like he was afraid she might disappear, his arms tightening around her radiant form. The stars that made up her being pulsed with life, each touch, each kiss sending ripples of light through her constellation body. It was unlike anything he had ever felt—intangible yet tangible, distant yet so heartbreakingly close.

Her lips moved against his, soft and familiar despite the impossibility of the moment. She kissed him with the same passion, her starlit hand sliding up his back, the weight of it grounding him even as it filled him with light.

He pulled back for a fraction of a second, his breath trembling, but his gaze locked onto hers, those glowing blue eyes filled with love and understanding. “I can’t let go,” he whispered, his voice hoarse with emotion. “Not yet.”

Rayla smiled, her starlit features glowing brighter. “You don’t have to.”

Encouraged by her words, he kissed her again, deeper this time, pouring every ounce of his love, his fear, his gratitude into the connection. Her form shimmered under his touch, the stars that composed her spinning and sparking, as though reflecting the intensity of his feelings.

The light around them grew brighter, enveloping them completely. The stars that made up her form began to seep into him, not vanishing but becoming a part of him, their warmth and glow settling into his soul.

Even as she began to fade, Callum kept kissing her, desperate to hold on. “Please,” he murmured against her lips, his voice breaking. “Don’t go.”

Rayla rested her forehead against his, her hand cupping his cheek one last time. “I’m not going anywhere,” she said softly, her voice steady despite the light beginning to pull her away. “I’ll always be with you, Callum. Always.”

Her form dissolved entirely into light, the stars flowing into his chest, their warmth wrapping around his heart like a protective shield. Callum stood there for a moment, trembling, his arms still outstretched, as if he could still feel her.

He closed his eyes, taking a shaky breath as he pressed his hand over his chest. He could feel her there, her love, her light. She hadn’t left him—not really. She was part of him now, his guide, his truth, his strength.

Callum opened his eyes to find the darkness gone. The void was replaced with golden light, and he stood alone—but not truly. Her voice echoed faintly in his mind, soft and reassuring.

“You’ve got this, love.”

He straightened, his hand still over his chest, and nodded. For her. For them. For the world they had fought so hard to save. With her light inside him, he would face whatever came next.

—

Rayla continued to hold Callum, her tears falling freely as she whispered desperate pleas into his ear. The world around them seemed to stand still, the urgency of the battle fading into a distant echo.

Gradually, something began to shift. The once stark white streak in Callum’s hair, a symbol of the dark magic he had wielded, started to slowly fade. The streak’s brilliance diminished, its harsh contrast softening as if being absorbed back into his natural hair color.

Ezran and Soren, standing nearby, watched with a mixture of hope and concern, their eyes catching the subtle change in Callum’s appearance. Rayla’s grip tightened, her gaze fixed intently on Callum’s face, as if willing him to return to her.

The white streak continued to vanish, the process slow but steady. Unbeknownst to them, this transformation was a reflection of Callum’s inner victory. By confronting Aaravos within his mind, and allowing the light of his love and determination to fill the darkness, he had begun to heal, his spirit overcoming the corruption that had tainted him.

Rayla felt a renewed surge of hope. She gently brushed Callum’s hair back from his face, her touch tender and full of longing. “Come back to me, Callum,” she whispered, her voice full of love and desperation.

The air around them seemed to hold its breath, waiting for the moment when Callum would awaken and return to the world of the living.

As the last remnants of the white streak disappeared, Callum’s body remained still, but the subtle signs of change were unmistakable. The tension in Rayla’s shoulders began to ease as she held him, her breaths coming in soft, rhythmic patterns.

Suddenly, Callum’s fingers twitched, a slight movement that did not go unnoticed by Rayla. She held her breath, her eyes locked on him as if willing him to wake up. The gentle rise and fall of his chest grew more pronounced, and his eyes fluttered open, revealing the familiar bright green once more.

Rayla’s heart leapt as she saw the spark of consciousness in his eyes. Tears of relief streamed down her face as she leaned closer, her voice trembling with emotion. “Callum…?”

Callum’s gaze met hers, the depths of his eyes reflecting both the remnants of his struggle and the warmth of the love that had guided him through. His lips moved weakly, forming a faint smile. “Rayla,” he whispered, his voice hoarse but filled with the soft assurance of someone who had returned from a long, dark journey.

Rayla’s tears fell faster, but they were now tears of joy. She clutched his face gently, her thumb brushing away the tears that had mixed with his own. “You’re back,” she murmured, her voice breaking with a mix of relief and happiness. “You came back to me.”

Callum’s hand reached up to cover hers, his grip weak but determined. “I… I’m here,” he said, his voice growing stronger with each word. “I promised you, didn’t I?”

Rayla’s tears continued to fall, but now they mingled with a radiant smile. She leaned in closer, her forehead gently resting against his. “Yes, you did,” she whispered, her voice barely above a breath. “And you came back. I knew you would.”

Callum’s eyes searched hers, the warmth of her gaze anchoring him as he struggled to fully return to himself. “I love you, Rayla,” he said, his voice a heartfelt murmur. “I always will.”

Rayla’s heart ached with emotion as she leaned in, her lips meeting his in a tender, lingering kiss. The touch was soft, but it conveyed the depth of her feelings—relief, love, and an unspoken promise of support through whatever lay ahead.

When they finally broke apart, Callum’s eyes fluttered open, filled with gratitude and a deep, abiding affection. “I’m so sorry,” he repeated, his voice trembling slightly. “I didn’t mean to make you worry.”

Rayla shook her head, her fingers brushing lightly over his cheek. “You don’t need to apologize. I’m just glad you’re here. With me.”

With a small, reassuring smile, Callum leaned in again, his lips brushing against hers with renewed fervor. The kiss was deeper this time, filled with the strength of his commitment and the relief of their reunion. It was a silent conversation of emotions, where words were unnecessary and their love spoke volumes.

Rayla’s fingers gently traced the contours of his face, her touch tender and loving. She was about to say something when Callum’s gaze softened, and he gave her a warm, knowing smile.

“I kept another promise,” Callum said softly, his voice filled with a mix of exhaustion and tenderness.

Rayla’s brow furrowed in confusion. “What do you mean?”

Callum’s smile widened as he took her hand in his, lifting it gently. He pressed a tender kiss to her fourth finger—her ring finger. “I promised you a future, didn’t I?”

Rayla’s eyes widened as she understood, the significance of his gesture dawning on her. Her heart melted at the thought of a life with him, the promise of their future together shining brighter than ever. The gesture was a reaffirmation of his commitment, a symbol of his enduring love.

She looked up at him, her eyes shimmering with emotion. “You did,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “And you’ve kept it.”

Callum nodded, his expression full of love and hope. “Every promise I make, I intend to keep. And this one… this one means everything.”

Rayla’s heart swelled with happiness, and she pulled him into a gentle embrace, their foreheads resting together once more. The warmth of his promise wrapped around her like a comforting blanket, the future they dreamed of now feeling within reach.
