Work Text:
“Why is it that you say ‘trick or treat?’” Malleus asks, blinking down at Lily and watching her face go from confused to delightedly pleased. The two of them have been costumed since earlier that day—Malleus in his eastern robes, with his tail flicking carefully around their feet, and Lily in her witchly dress, with dark lace and deeply violet roses woven astride her hat—and Malleus’s fingers itch to brush against the jewel that sits sweet upon her clavicle. Still, he listens attentively as Lily explains the origin of the phrase, and he nods his understanding as Lily unwraps another chocolate and catches it between her teeth.
Fingertips have been brushing against hands all through the night under the guise of grabbing candy from the small pile between them, and as it happens once again, Malleus’s eyes flick down to Lily’s lips, thinking of tricks and treats.
He leans forward then, and his lips press soft against Lily’s—tongue slipping out to chase the bittersweet taste of the chocolate she’d just eaten. When he pulls away a second later, there’s a delicious pink that dusts the top of Lily’s cheeks. “Will I still get tricked,” he finds himself asking, “if I’ve already stolen my sweet?” and although Lily tries to explain that he may have slightly misunderstood her explanation, that doesn’t stop her from eating more chocolate just so he can lean in to kiss her more.
