Work Text:
The stars over Night Raven College sprawl glittering and golden against the inky purple night, and Malleus holds Lily’s hands within his—single-minded in his determination to never ever let them go. “You can’t promise me this will work out,” Lily whispers, her voice cracking slightly even as Malleus pulls her closer. “You can’t promise me this will continue to work out—no matter how happy we are now.”
Her eyes shine slightly beneath the endless expanse of twilight, and Malleus smiles small: tongue tucking back between his teeth. She’s beautiful in her selflessness and selfishness both, and Malleus runs a thumb atop the knuckles of her hand. “I can,” he murmurs, “and I will. No matter what happens, Lily—no matter what comes between us—I know we’ll make it work. I would move the earth and heavens for you, would rewrite the very nature of this world if you were to ask me to do it. All you’d have to do is let me.” There’s a devotion to it that Malleus fully intends, yet the weight of it still settles heavily atop his shoulders, and Malleus knows he’d gladly bear that weight until the day the world ends. “So please, Lily... why don’t we rewrite the stars?”
Malleus smiles, open and lovely, and feels Lily grip his hands tighter as he continues: “We’ll change the world to be ours.”
