“Miss Ayase, are you okay?!” Momo, while still dazed, looks up at the familiar voice. “...Okarun?”
“Oh my god I thought you were gone.” As Momo starts to fully wake up she slowly remembers what happened bit by bit. She was fighting some crazed spirit that had gone to Okarun, something about trying to find Turbo Granny? Who really knows? She continues to be lost in thought until a drop hits her face. She looks up to see Okarun crying, his glasses getting foggy and his face red. “I- I was so worried. I t-thought you were dying. I didn’t know what to do so I just waited. I’m so happy you woke up.” Okarun says with a wobbly smile, trying to stay positive to avoid just how distraught he was.
Momo stares up at Okarun as he continues to cry. She notices how red his nose is, how pretty he looks when he cries. Wait. What was she thinking!? She shakes her head and stands up. Okarun pops up quickly to match her stance. She continues to stare at him in thought before his voice jolts her. “M-Miss Ayase? Are you okay? You seem distracte-” Okarun pauses as Momo lifts a hand up and wipes a tear from his face.
“You’re crying…” She says with a sullen look on her face. She drops her head down. “I’m sorry. I made you cry.”
“No! No! It's okay! You didn’t mean to! Please don’t blame yourself for this Miss Ayase I should have been more careful!” Okarun quickly yells out. He bends forward in a slight bow, matching Momo. She lifts her head up to look at him again and starts breaking out into laughter. Okarun looks up too with a curious smile on his face. “M-Miss Ayase?” He tilts his head in question. “I can’t believe it!” She gets out in between laughs. “We’re both so worried for nothing!” She says with a big smile on her face. Her smile tightens a bit as Okarun continues to just stare. She quickly lifts her hand up and slams it down on his shoulder. He jumps at the aggressive contact and stares at where their bodies meet.
“I’m sorry for scaring you Okarun.” At that he looks back to Momo to see that same smile on her face. The one she wore when she saved him the first time. The smile that made him realize he finally had a friend. “On the bright side it’s all over now and both of us are okay.. Mostly.” Okarun looks confused until he looks down and realizes both of them are covered in dirt from the scuttle before. “It’s okay… I’m just glad you’re safe.” He says as he looks back up. Momo can’t help but falter at his newfound confidence. The sparkle in his eye making him seem all the more charming. She drops her hand from his shoulder and both try to hide the disappointment at the loss of contact.
“Well… I guess we should get cleaned up.” Momo reluctantly states. “Yeah..” Okarun replies with a light chuckle. “We probably should”
“Welp see you tomorrow I guess!” Momo says before walking away. “Bye Okarun!”
“Bye… Miss Ayase…”

Momo twists and turns in bed, trying to get comfortable. She turns over and stares at her wall. Flashes of the events earlier flash through her mind, preventing a restful night. She can’t seem to get his teary eyes out of her head. His tears falling onto her face replay in her head as she tries to fall asleep. “Dammit..” she mumbles. She sits up on her bed and looks at her phone. She unlocks it and clicks on her contacts. She looks through her recent calls and doesn’t have to scroll long before she finds her target. The words ‘Okarun’ flash on her screen and light up the room. She hesitates clicking on it, her thumb hovering over the call button.
Should she do it? He’s probably asleep by now.. There’s no real point. Momo moves to place her phone down until it starts ringing. She jumps and fumbles her phone, dropping it on the floor. She races to pick it up and answers immediately upon seeing who it is. “Okarun?”
“Miss Ayase.” She hears his voice whisper through the phone. “W-Whats up? Everything okay?” She asks, trying to maintain composure at the boy's impeccable timing. “I just couldn’t sleep..” He replies quietly. “I know it sounds dumb but I thought maybe you would be awake too so I gave it a tr-”
“That doesn’t sound dumb at all.” She interrupts. “Uh- I mean- um- sorry for interrupting!” She quickly gets out. She internally cringes at herself as she realizes her actions. She hears a light chuckle from the other end of the call. “No its okay Miss Ayase. I don’t mind.” She lets out a sigh at his apparent unbotheredness with the interruption. She inhales deeply before saying what was on her mind. “Wouldyouwannacomeover?” She squeezes her eyes shut while she waits for the destined rejection.
“..Huh?”
“I’m sorry it was stupid! I shouldn’t have asked that!” She fidgets with her shorts while chastising herself in her head. “N-no I mean I didn’t understand what you said.” Momo pauses at that and wilts even more in embarrassment. “I-it was nothing. Nevermind..” She says with a small frown on her face. “Are you sure?” Okarun questions, obvious concern in his voice. “Yeah it was nothing. I should probably go, I’m pretty tired..” She waits for a response before hearing a quiet ‘okay’ before hanging up. She stares at the wall, once again criticizing herself for her inability to be straightforward.
As she contemplates her life choices she can’t help but think back to Okarun’s eyes again. The light that sparked when he looked at her. Was she the reason he looked so happy? Did she make him that happy? No. That couldn’t be it. It must just be the fact that she didn’t die. That would relieve anyone. Not having to deal with a dead body. He was just glad he didn’t have to worry about that cleanup, that’s it. She sits back up again and sighs. She reaches out for her phone once again and clicks back to his contact. Their past texts brighten up the room. Her eyes flit to the bottom of the screen as she notices bubbles pop up. He was still awake. Her eyes widened at the realization that not only was she thinking about him but he must have been thinking about her too. Her fingers rapidly type across the screen and send a text. She quickly shuts off her phone and chucks it across her bed before reading the response.

Momo sits patiently outside of her house. Her legs are tucked up in front of her body with her arms holding them. At the sound of footsteps she glances up to see Okarun at the entrance. For what felt like days but was only a few seconds they stared at each other. Okarun can’t help but freeze when seeing her, unsure of what to say. He breathes heavily, having biked over as quickly as he could.
As he starts to open his mouth to say something he instantly pauses when he sees Momo stand up. She slowly but surely rises to her feet, never breaking eye contact with him. She appears to be in the same trance he is. As the moon lights up the world around them they continue to stare in silence.
Momo begins to slowly step forward. She speeds up into a jog which turns into a sprint. All Okarun can do is attempt to brace himself as she barrels straight for him. She jumps into the air and immediately wraps her arms around him once she gets close enough. They both fall to the ground as Okarun holds her steady in his arms. They lie there almost completely still, the only sound being Momo’s heavy breathing as she recovers from the sprint. Okarun just squeezes her tighter and nuzzles his face into her shoulder. They both refuse to let go, enraptured in the warmth that encompasses them from the embrace. Neither of them say anything, simply enjoying the feeling of being so close. Momo moves her head to look at Okarun, he does the same and they both once again stare. Okarun can’t help but blush at how close their faces are to each other.
“Hey.” Momo says, not breaking eye contact.
“Hey.”
