Work Text:
Persephone pushed and pushed her baby. She wanted to meet them, to finally hold them after nine months. She screamed as the baby finally came out. The room was quiet when it should be full of the baby's cries. The baby wasn't crying, something was wrong, something was wrong was all that she could think about. She saw the babies' flame feet sputtering out. Hades and Persephone gave each other worried looks as Nyx walked away as she held their child trying to get to breathe.
After what for hours Nyx gives a sad look and walks towards them. "I am sorry but the fates cut the string for your son and I couldn't save him." She slowly transitions the now wrapped baby in the blanket into Persephone arms. Persephone and Hades' eyes widened as the baby in her arms wasn't moving and his burning feet went out. All she wanted to do is cry and scream about how the fates were being cruel. She held onto her son, her poor son who was dead.
"What did she do wrong?" That's all her mind could think. "Persephone.. Persephone, please talk to me." She startled and looked at her husband, Hades who is trying not to cry over the death of their son. She desperately wants to comfort her husband but she can't move her arms from their dead son, instead she cradles her child closer to her and starts to sing
You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
She remembers how she was excited to tell Hades that she was pregnant with his child.
When skies are gray
You'll never know, dear
How much I love you
She remembers how Hades’ face when he felt their baby kicking
Please don't take
My sunshine away
She remembers reassuring Hades that their child will be ok no matter what the fates say.
The other night, dear
As I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you
In my arms
She remembers talking with Hades about Baby names Katerina for a girl, Zagreus for a boy.
When I awoke, dear
I was mistaken
So I hung my head and cried
You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are gray
You'll never know, dear
How much I love you
Please don't take
My sunshine awa-y
Her voice breaks as she remembers how she had watched her only son's feet sputtering out mean he was dying. Hades and Persephone cry for their lost child.
As Nyx watches Persephone and Hades hold their dead child and all she can think is "I will fix this.”
