Work Text:

The cafeteria at Night Raven College was buzzing with the usual chatter of students, filtering in and out of the space like a swarm of ants.
Cater and Beau had snagged a small table by the window, one of their usual spots. It was just them today, their friends having a different lunch time. Though neither of them minded, it was always nice when it was just the two of them. Their trays were piled high with dishes that seemed to embody their vastly different tastes, it was quite an amusing sight to see.

Cater was halfway through his plate of spicy curry rice, the bright red sauce looking as fiery as it smelled. Meanwhile, across from him, Beau picked at a neatly arranged plate of steamed vegetables and noodles, his expression a mix of amusement and exasperation as he watched the ginger casually shovel another spoonful of the molten meal into his mouth.

“You’re going to regret that later,” Beau commented, raising an eyebrow, lips quirking up in the corners slightly.

Cater smirked, barely pausing to breathe. “Pfft, you worry too much, Beau. Spice is life. You’re missing out.”

Beau glanced at his own plate, he supposes the simplicity of his meal almost laughable compared to Cater’s chaos. But well, he wasn't usually very hungry to begin with most of the time.
“I prefer food that doesn’t leave me feeling like I’m on fire, thanks.”

“Boring~!" Cater teased, dragging out the word as he reached across the table with his fork, a piece of curry coated chicken stabbed onto it. He hovers it near Beau's lips, an amused glint in his eyes. “C’mon, hoe about you try just one bite? Live a little?"

Beau leaned back, making a face as he shifted away from the offending food offered to him. He crosses his arms, giving Cater a slightly queasy look. “Not a chance. I like my taste buds intact.”

Cater pouted dramatically, though his eyes continued to sparkle with mischief. “You’re no fun, babe...too bad I'm looking for a little game~” With a sudden grin, he swapped their plates, sliding his curry in front of Beau and claiming the steamed veggies for himself.

“Cater!” Beau protested, staring at the fiery dish now in front of him like it was a ticking time bomb. He tries to grab his own dish back but to no avail, the ginger's grip on the plate was firm. Beau glares at the offending boy, who was merely grinning like the cheshire cat.

“Hey, fair’s fair~! Hashtag no take backs~! C'monnn just try one mouth it's good I promise! In the meantime I'll enjoy your little rabbit food too~" Cater quipped, popping a steamed broccoli into his mouth with a smug expression.

Beau sighed, knowing there was no winning with Cater once he got like this. As much as he loves the boy...sometimes he really got on his nerves. Tentatively, he picks up the spoon, expression reluctant as he poked at the contents. Eventually he scooped up the smallest possible bite of curry and brought it to his mouth. The moment it hit his tongue, his face contorted into an expression of pure betrayal.

Cater burst out laughing, nearly choking on his stolen vegetables. “Oh sevens, Beau! Your face! Hashtag Priceless!"

“Why does anyone eat this?” Beau sputtered, reaching for his cup like his life depended on it. "I barely even ate it and it's so heavy ugh...I feel queazy..." Beau grimaces as he takes big gulps of his water.

“Because it’s amazing!” Cater declared, wiping a tear from his eye as he giggled non stop. “But okay, okay, I’ll save you. Hand it back.” He slid Beau’s plate back toward him, still chuckling.

Beau didn’t argue, gratefully returning to his mild, soothing meal. Although, his appetite was pretty diminished by now “You’re impossible, you know that?”

“And yet, you still put up with me,” Cater replied with a wink, digging back into his curry. “That’s love, babe~!"

Beau shook his head as he picks up his fork, slowly continuing his meal in tiny bites.
Although he tried to seem annoyed, a small smile tugged at his lips, betraying the fondness be felt. Oh well, he could put up with these crazy antics he supposes. As long as Cater was happy right?
