An Awkward Reunion

Summary:

Jane takes his new boyfriend back to his apartment for the first time. He doesn't expect Tavish to recognise his roommate.

Work Text:

Tavish leaned against the wall outside Jane’s apartment as he turned his key in the lock and opened the door. Holding it open, Jane let Tavish in before entering behind them and turning on the lights.

Tavish looked around at the inside of the apartment. There were a few houseplants, an old sofa and a small TV set. The thing that most drew his attention, however, was a bookshelf lined with a variety of old leatherbound books and strange-looking ornaments. Something seemed familiar about the books, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.

It didn’t matter, though, as Jane was already pulling him toward the couch.

“I made sure my roommate would be out tonight. We have this place all to ourselves,” he smiled, letting Tavish rest his head on his chest.

“Och, now that sounds just lovely.”

Tavish smiled back as Jane gently brushed a hand through his hair. Then, propping himself up a bit, he leaned over and softly kissed Jane’s lips. Jane kissed him back.

He woke up in Jane’s bed in the morning and yawned, seeing his partner getting dressed beside him. Jane had dressed himself in a pair of camo-patterned cargo pants and a white shirt that hugged his torso. Tavish stood up and began putting his own clothes on, stopping to greet Jane with a kiss as he did so. Lazily walking out of the bedroom, he was suddenly halted by the sight of Jane’s mysterious roommate, and the reason for all the strange books.

“Merasmus?!”

“Tavish?!”

Merasmus nearly dropped the book he was holding, immediately recognising the eyepatched face of his former cleaner.

Jane wandered out of the room.

“Do you two know each other?” he asked.

“That… boyfriend of yours used to work for me!” Merasmus replied.

“Aye! And this dusty old cunt is the reason me eye’s missing!” Tavish scowled.

“Um— well, uh, let’s not fight, you two. I’m sure we can leave the past behind u—”

“NONSENSE! It was not my fault you lost your eye. I gave you very clear instructions not to touch the book!”

“Well why were ye givin’ a wee seven-year-old lad access to the damned book in the first place?! Ye should’ve locked it away better or something!”

Jane did not want Merasmus ruining his date. He realised he’d have to break up this fight one way or another.

“Well maybe you should’ve thought a little harder about working for a wizard!”

“ATTEN-TION!” Jane announced, silencing the argument. He had produced a riding crop from who-knows-where and was brandishing it at Merasmus’ face.

“MERASMUS! I am going to have a nice day with my boyfriend, and you are not going to ruin this for us by being the annoying sunovabitch that you are! Do you understand that?”

Merasmus sneered.

“No, but I suppose it’ll be easier for me to study my spells if I don’t have to watch you two snogging all day.”

The wizard sulked his way back to his room with the book tucked under his arm. A mysterious green glow emanated from the doorway as he opened it, but disappeared as soon as the door was closed.

“Right… at least that’s dealt with him … I don’t like him either, to be honest. He’s too busy burying his face in those stupid spellbooks of his to every do anything around here! Lazy bum.”

“Y’know, there ain’t no annoying wizards at my place… if ye ever wanted to visit. Though, me mam’s even worse at times…”

“Worse than Merasmus? I’ll believe it when I see it.”
