Chapter Text
The RED team’s van rolled to a halt on the road outside the BLU base. Heavy was the first to step out, finding cover behind a boulder, before being followed by Soldier, Pyro and Demo. The plan was simple: Pyro and Demo would provide a distraction long enough for Heavy and Soldier to get into the base. From there, the four of them would reunite inside the base and split off again. This time, Soldier and Demo would stick together to defend their two teammates, whilst Heavy and Pyro made their way to where their captured teammate was being kept.
Heavy had not been happy about his part of the plan requiring him to leave Sasha at the RED base. But he still had his fists and a shotgun, plus all the armaments and artillery his coworkers carried with them. He was needed because he was the only one of them able to carry their teammate’s metallic body.
Heavy peeked his head over the top of the rock. He patted Pyro on the shoulder and ordered for the two of them to move.
Pyro sprang out from behind the rock, with Demoman following closely behind. The two of them made their way quickly and quietly, closing the gap between their position and the wire fence that surrounded the base.
Demoman fired a pair stickybombs at the fence. They latched onto the wire, before swiftly exploding and blowing a hole for them to enter through.
The explosion, of course, swiftly roused the attention of the base’s defences. The two of them saw sentries come to life on the roof, and it wouldn’t be long before the BLU team rushed out to deal with the intruders. A few more bombs courtesy of Demoman managed to stop the sentries from turning them into Swiss cheese, but the BLUs were already charging out to engage with them. Pyro grabbed their companion’s collar and dragged him behind a dark blue shipping container, having spotted their enemies beginning to try and find them. They gestured and mumbled at him, and he strained to understand their words.
“The sniper?”
“ Mmhs! ” Pyro replied, accompanying their muffled words with a nod.
“Alright, you just hold all the rest of them off for me then, aye?”
Pyro nodded again, and the two of them leapt out from behind cover. Demo shot a pipebomb at the Sniper, swiftly getting rid of that particular obstacle whilst Pyro fended off the other attackers with threats of burning.
Whilst the pair of them had the BLUs engaged in combat, Heavy and Soldier took the opportunity to make their way into the base. Of course, neither of them were the stealthiest members of their team, but Demo and Pyro seemed to be making a loud and fiery enough distraction that nobody who saw them had much of an opportunity to try and attack them.
Heavy shouldered open a door into the base and the two of them charged in. Having spotted them make their way through, Demo motioned for Pyro to follow him into the base, using a bomb to blow open a window, which they helped each other climb through. Heavy and Soldier waited for them on the other side as they were followed by the BLUs. A few rockets flew over their head and landed behind them, swiftly taking out a few of the BLU team members. Others soon fell victim to more bullets or bombs.
“GO! GO!” Soldier shouted, motioning for Heavy and Pyro to make their move toward where Cyborg was being held. They quickly followed his directions and raced down one corridor, which Demo proceeded to place a few stickybombs around the entrance of to prevent anyone from following the pair of them. They took up their positions close to each other, making sure to keep watch over as many areas as possible.
Meanwhile, Pyro made sure to stay behind Heavy, turning back every so often to check they weren’t being followed.
Heavy came up to a locked door, attempting to open it with a grunt. He tapped Pyro on the shoulder.
“Stand back. I shoot lock.”
Pyro took a few steps away from him as he aimed the shotgun at the door. A couple of shots caused the lock to break open and the wood to splinter, allowing him to open the door with a push.
A beam of light shone into the room from the doorway. The light landed on Cyborg’s face, illuminating their metal jaw, which hung open limply. Their eyes were closed as if they were asleep, though Heavy remembered what Engineer had told him - that they were programmed to enter a coma-like state when running low on power. Electricity was what kept them alive, after all.
He quickly snapped apart the handcuffs that kept them chained to the wall. He expected that they would’ve been able to break the handcuffs themself if they’d not been left without power.
Hauling Cyborg’s body over his shoulder, he nodded to Pyro and the two of them swiftly made their way out of the building. The fighting was still continuing as they ran out, with Pyro and Soldier holding off the last few attackers as they collectively leapt into the van and screeched away into the silence of the badlands at night.
In the back of the van, Soldier, Pyro and Demo looked over Cyborg’s body. Soldier poked his forehead a couple of times, with no reaction.
“Sure would’ve been nice if this oversized tin can could’ve helped us fight our way out of there,” he grumbled.
“Give him a break, lad. Them BLUs probably drained his power or something. I imagine he probably could’ve escaped himself otherwise.”
“Ah, if I were him I wouldn’t let a little thing like that stop me!”
Demo sighed. Clearly Soldier didn’t really understand how Cyborg’s mechanisms actually worked. Well, he didn’t either, but at least he could grasp the basics, like the fact their friend needed electrical power to live.
Heavy unloaded Cyborg into Engineer’s workshop when the two of them arrived back at the base. He set him down on one of the man’s workbenches, before wandering off.
Engineer looked over his friend with worry. Cyborg must’ve been left without power for some time now. He turned them onto their side and plugged their charging cable into their lower back. If any of the BLUs had tampered with their machinery, he’d wait until they’d got their power back to take a look at it. Besides, once Cyborg was awake they might be more able to tell him if there were any problems. He decided to place a pillow under their head as well, for comfort, before leaving the room.
