Chapter 1: EARFQUAKE

Chapter Text

“Don't leave, it's my fault.”

Slingshot stood before her bathroom mirror, gripping the sink as she stared at herself. Her eyes were red, tears flowing down as she panted, gasping for air. She stood unmoving, her breath irregular. There was a large crack that went through the whole mirror, and her reflection split and broke at the center of it, she never was able to make time to replace it. She broke eye contact with herself, looking down at the blood and tears staining the sink. Her breathing became faster and more frantic, she backed up until she slammed her back against the wall, slumping down as she clutched her head. Now hyperventilating, her sobs intensified as she started repeating an incoherent phrase in her panicked state. She started screaming the same word over and over, her hopeless wails answered by no one to catch her from this downward spiral. Her screams continued until her voice tired, eventually, she curled into a ball, once more sobbing silently to herself. The same questions and thoughts swirled around her, her head throbbing in pain as she kept thinking and thinking, and thinking. How did this happen? Was it my fault? Could I have done something different? She pondered all these and more, thinking of all the possible answers. But one question strained her head the most, one she couldn't figure out. Why? She kept repeating it to herself, sobbing and shaking while asking this question. As she struggled to think of an answer, she eventually fell asleep, right there on the bathroom floor, too exhausted to do anything else anymore.
