Resident Evil 1, written by William Shakespeare

Summary:

Yep, for real! I did the whole (mostly) of Resident Evil 1 as a Shakespearean play! Definitely considering Re2 next!

Work Text:

Act I, Scene I: "The Howling of Shadows"
(A desolate wood beneath a tempestuous sky. The moon hides ‘neath clouds as strange sounds pierce the still air. Enter Alpha Team with torches in hand.)

Chris:
In yonder wilds of Raccoon’s cursed shade,
Our noble Bravo kin have vanished whole.
By duty bound, we scour this twilight glade,
To find their fate, be it sweet life or dole.

(He pauses, scanning the gloom. In the shadows, faint howls echo.)

Wesker (from the gloom):
What sayest thou, Chris? Hast thou seen aught, perchance,
A sign of man or craft amidst this trance?

Chris:
Nay, Wesker, though mine eyes do sweep the void,
No sign nor wreck hath yet my search employed.
Methinks this silence hides an eerie breath,
Where forest whispers flirt with thoughts of death.

(A faint rustle breaks the stillness. The team grows tense.)

Wesker:
Press on! For coward’s hearts bring doom’s embrace.
We find our comrades, be it here or there.
The hour grows late, the shadows interlace,
Yet courage shall dispel the foul despair.

(They advance into the darkness, the air thick with foreboding.)

Chris (aside, with a grim tone):
O forest vast, dost thou conspire against
Our mortal quest with secrets dark and dense?
What evil breathes within thy bosom still?
The night grows cold, yet bodes a hotter thrill.

(Exeunt, their lights fading into the black. The howls grow louder.)
Act I, Scene II: "The Bard's Chronicle"
(The stage darkens. A town crier steps forward, holding a scroll. A bell tolls ominously. A tapestry unfurls, showing crude drawings of a village surrounded by ominous woods and craggy peaks.)

Crier (reads from the scroll):
“Hear ye, hear ye! Dire tidings strike our land!
The village of Racon’s Hollow lies besieged
By horrors foul and deeds beyond man’s hand.
The hills do whisper secrets none believe.”

(He gestures to the tapestry, which now reveals the following in bold, dramatic script:)
“HORROR IN RACON! MORE VILLAGERS SLAIN!”

Crier (continues, somberly):
“As fear and shadow plague the mountain’s keep,
The Council’s knights of great renown are bid
To seek the source of woe, where silence creeps,
And end the curse by strength of shield and wit.”

(The words "Knights of the Radiant Star" appear beneath a crude emblem of a shining star surrounded by swords.)

Crier:
“The Knights of Radiant Star, our saviors true,
To forest deep and castle old must ride.
Their hearts with valor, their purpose anew—
To vanquish foes that in the dark abide.”

(The tapestry changes again, showing a map of Racon’s Hollow, the mountains surrounding it, and a foreboding silhouette of a towering keep atop a cliff.)

Crier (exits, murmuring):
“Mayhap the stars shall guide their journey fair,
Or doom their souls to anguish and despair.”

(The stage darkens again. A wolf’s howl pierces the night as the scene shifts.)
Act I, Scene III: "Whispers of Devouring Shadows"
(The forest. Chris and Alpha Team pause near a clearing, torches flickering. A faint breeze rustles the leaves. The mood is grim.)

Chris:
Dark tidings have plagued Racon’s Hollow late,
Where death walks cloaked in shadows deep and dire.
Strange tales do spread, of kin turned wolves by fate,
Ten strong in number, bound by savage ire.

(He looks to his comrades, his voice heavy with foreboding.)

Reports, though wild, do speak of gruesome feasts—
Of families, whole, beset by fiendish hosts.
Their flesh consumed, as if by feral beasts,
Their blood now mingling with these haunted coasts.

(He pauses, the silence broken only by distant howls.)

Our brothers of Bravo, steadfast and bold,
Did seek the lair where such vile acts were bred.
Yet vanished swift, as tales of terror told—
No word, no sign, as if by night they’re fed.

(The team shifts uneasily, their eyes scanning the dark.)

Chris (aside, with resolve):
O night, what cruel design dost thou conceal?
What beastly hearts do in this blackness dwell?
If fear should rise, I’ll not let courage reel,
For light and steel shall pierce this devil’s spell.

(He grips his weapon, his gaze unyielding as the team presses onward.)
Act I, Scene IV: "The Hounds of Perdition"
(The cloudy sky looms over a vast field of swaying, golden grass. A dark plume rises in the distance, curling ominously into the heavens. Enter Alpha Team, their movements cautious, their breaths hushed.)

Jill:
Mark yonder plume, dear Chris! A sign it seems!
What blackened hand hath marred the heavens so?

(The team treads through the grass, the tension palpable. They come to a halt near the remnants of a shattered carriage.)

Chris:
This ruin’d wreck, our Bravo’s fateful steed.
No riders found, no echoes of their tread.
Yet curiously, their arms and tools still bleed
With purpose left behind—abandoned dread.

(He kneels, inspecting the debris as the others glance about uneasily. A faint growl murmurs through the air.)

Chris:
Hark now! Some baleful force doth linger here.
Its shadow claws at reason’s fragile veil.

(A monstrous face appears briefly in the grass—its visage twisted, its growl low and menacing. Jill and Chris exchange grim glances. Elsewhere, Joseph scouts alone, his hand raised to catch their attention.)

Joseph:
Ho! My comrades, haste ye hither, now!

(He crouches, his hand trembling as he lifts a severed limb. The lifeless fingers clutch a crossbow with a grip as though even death could not undo it. Joseph recoils with a scream, dropping the grisly find.)

Joseph:
O saints preserve! What nightmare’s mark is this,
That mangled flesh doth clutch its weapon still?

(The growls swell, turning to snarls. A pack of monstrous hounds bolts forth, saliva dripping like venom. They leap upon Joseph with feral fury. The stage fills with chaos: the snarling jaws of the beasts, the open-mouthed scream of Joseph, torn asunder. Chris, Wesker, and Barry turn sharply at the sound.)

Jill (rushing forward with blade drawn):
Joseph! Stand fast! Thou shalt not fall alone!
(She charges into the fray, her blade catching the pale light ....)
Act I, Scene V: "The Flight to the Cursed Keep"
(A field of chaos. The monstrous hounds descend upon Alpha Team. Chris raises his crossbow, loosing bolts wildly, the twang of the string cutting through the night.)

Chris:
Foul beast, thou shalt not feast on living flesh!
Take steel, and may thy jaws be stilled at last!

(A hound lunges; Chris fires, his bolts striking the earth, missing their mark. Jill sprints into view, her movements swift, her aim steady. She looses two bolts, her strikes grazing the snarling pack.)

Jill:
By heaven’s mercy, these fiends are born of hell!
Their number swells; we fight a tide most fell!

(Wesker retreats, his crossbow releasing two quick shots as he shouts incoherent cries of alarm.)

Wesker:
Hwuh! Away! Back, ye devils, to shadow’s maw!

(Barry, his heavy crossbow in hand, releases a single bolt with force, the weapon's twang like thunder. The hounds falter, momentarily stunned. The team halts, their breaths labored, as the sound of creaking wheels fills the air. They look up to see their carriage pulling away, its driver Brad whipping the horses into a gallop.)

Chris:
What treachery is this? Flee ye, our hope?
Abandon’d are we, left to death’s cruel jest!

(The carriage fades into the horizon, its betrayal stark against the moonlit gloom. The snarling beasts resume their pursuit. Alpha Team breaks into a desperate run, Chris firing two more bolts, striking one hound, which groans and falters.)

Chris: (shouting to Jill)
Make haste! Run for yonder ancient keep!
Its walls may grant us shelter ‘gainst this fate!

(The team races toward the silhouette of an imposing, decayed castle rising from the mist. The growling hounds close in, their jaws snapping as the team stumbles through the overgrown path. The stage shifts between the grotesque visage of the dogs and the crumbling yet foreboding visage of the keep.)

(Exeunt all, pursued by the hounds. The stage darkens, leaving only the chilling echo of snarls and the creak of ancient doors in the distance.Three of them have escaped into the mansion, where they thought it was safe. Yet, in the stillness of the ancient halls, a cold, unnatural chill wraps ‘round their hearts, for within these walls, dread stirs and whispers through the shadowed corners, as if the very house itself thirsts for blood.)
Act I, Scene V: The Mansion’s Shadowed Halls
(The stage reveals an ornate hall, grand in its design yet heavy with the pall of mystery. The air is thick with silence, the only sound being the echoes of footsteps as Barry, Jill, and Wesker survey the darkened room.)
Barry:
What strange abode is this, with tapestries grand,
Yet all within doth whisper naught but dread?
A hall so vast, yet its silence doth suffocate,
And naught but shadows do our steps await.

Wesker: (his voice filled with awe, though tinged with suspicion)
A lordly house, by my soul! This house doth speak
Of ancient riches, secret and dark,
A place of power, methinks, but ill-begotten.
What curious fate hath brought us here?

Jill: (eyes scanning the room, her voice laced with concern)
Captain Wesker, Chris is not here!
I seek him now, with fear within my breast.
What silence lies upon this castle's breath?

(Jill, full of worry, rushes toward a door to the west.)

Wesker: (stopping her, his command firm)
Hold, Jill! Nay, do not venture hence!
The door thou seek’st may not bring light,
But shadows deeper than thou canst imagine.

Jill: (struggling, her voice rising with anxiety)
But Chris—he may be in peril dire!
I must—

(Suddenly, the sharp sound of metal on hard stone fills the air. All three turn, startled.)

Barry: (his voice hushed, but filled with dread)
What sound is that, so loud and shrill?

Wesker: (a moment's hesitation)
Perhaps ‘tis Chris, caught in his own plight.
Now, Jill, thy haste may do us harm,
Canst thou not wait?

Barry: (stepping forward, resolute)
Nay, I shall go with thee. He is our kin,
A brother bound by honor and by blood.

Wesker: (a dark glance toward Barry, then turning to Jill)
Then go, both of ye. Let me tend to this.
Stay alert, for this place is no common home.

(Barry and Jill exchange a quick glance and hurry toward the door. Wesker stands alone, watching them leave.)
Wesker:
Stay vigilant! Danger waits in every shadow!
Scene: The Dining Room
(The scene shifts. Barry and Jill enter a lavish dining room, the table adorned with fine silver, though it bears an unsettling stillness.)
Barry:
A banquet hall, yet no guests here remain.
The silver shines, yet the feast is gone.
Who set this table, and who doth dine here?
(Barry steps towards the far end, his boots echoing in the vast room. Jill hesitates, her eyes darting to every corner.)
Scene : The Mysterious Puddle
(Barry kneels near the fireplace, the emblem faintly glowing in the dim light. He notices a dark substance on the floor.)

Barry:
What foulness stains this hallowed stone?
Blood, methinks, though it speaks no name.

(Jill steps closer, looking with trepidation.)

Jill:
What dost thou see, Barry, so dark and grim?

Barry:
Blood, indeed… a stain of mortal pain.
(he pauses, wiping his brow)
See, Jill, if thou canst find more to tell,
For I fear this blood may mark our doom

Scene: The Zombie's Feast
(A ghastly awaits Jill in the northwestern corridor. It is a man who, in tattered green robes, bald and twisted, crouches over a fallen body, feasting on it. The body is that of Kenneth, knight from the Bravos. With every bite, the sound of tearing flesh echoes. The creature raises its head, its cataracted blue eye staring at the audience with eerie calm.)
Scene: Zombie Attack
(Jill runs into the dining room once more, her face pale with fear. She rushes to Barry, who is still by the fireplace.)

Jill:
Barry, what is this? What hell hath risen here?

(Suddenly, the door creaks, and a grotesque zombie shambles into the room. Barry steps forward, crossbow raised.)

Barry:
What devilry is this? Stand back, Jill,
For I shall face this menace, by my hand.

(Barry takes three careful shots with his crossbow, each bolt striking the creature’s head with deadly precision. The zombie crumples to the floor.)

Barry:
What manner of beast is this? It walks as man,
Yet breathes no life—its soul lost to darkness.

Jill:
Kenneth too, perished by such a thing.
A creature birthed from death itself, I fear.

(They both look down at the body, grim-faced.)

Barry:
Let us tell Wesker of this cursed fate.
(They exit the room, moving swiftly.)
(The main hall is once again illuminated, and Barry and Jill stand at its heart, the air thick with unease. Barry calls out, his voice low with concern.)
Barry:
Wesker! Where art thou, captain?
This place grows darker with each passing hour.

(Jill begins searching behind the grand staircase. Barry paces the room, his brow furrowed in thought.)

Barry:
Find aught, Jill? Have we no clue to guide us?

Jill:
Nay, nothing but empty space and darkened halls.
What vile mystery doth this mansion keep?

Barry:
I know not. Let us search apart,
For though the night is long, we must uncover the truth.
I shall return to the dining hall.

Jill:
I will seek the other door,
And should danger strike, we shall meet again here.

Barry: (handing her a lockpick)
Take this, for thou art the master of unlocking,
And this key may serve thee well.
Let us begin anew, from the ground floor,
And take care, Jill. This mansion is treacherous.

Jill:
Thank thee, Barry. I shall not forget thy counsel.

(Barry nods, watching her go, then turns to head toward the dining room. Jill stands for a moment, then hurries off, the sounds of the mansion’s deep silence closing in around them. She must peer outside of the door. If Chris is out there...)
Scene: The Beast at the Door
(Jill stands at the threshold of the grand hall. She opens the door, only to be met by a monstrous sight. A dog, its head gruesomely torn asunder, its flesh hanging in tatters, peers through the door. Its growls fill the air with dread. With a quick motion, Jill slams the door shut with all her might.)

Jill:
What devil's spawn is this? A beast so vile,
With flesh rent asunder, yet still it lives!
Foul creature, away! May it find its doom
Beyond this door, where shadows creep and loom.

(Jill presses her back against the door, breathing heavily, her hand trembling as she watches the beast on the other side.)

Jill: (to herself)
This place is no mere house, but cursed ground,
Where monsters walk, and life is naught but death.
What hope remains in such a world of woe?

(The growling persists, but Jill, summoning her courage, moves swiftly to the other side of the room.)
Scene: The Battle in the Gallery
(Jill dashes through a decrepit art gallery, its walls lined with ancient portraits, their faces obscured by dust. The torches flicker, casting eerie shadows upon the floor as she rushes through the dust-laden hall. The air is thick with the scent of decay.)

Jill: (to herself)
The halls are dark and long, yet still I run,
Each step resounds in chambers long-forgot.
Foul shadows chase, and monsters lie in wait,
Yet forward I must go, through this dread fate!

(She reaches a window and glances out, but before she can make a move, the glass shatters with a deafening crash! A grotesque undead hound, its flesh rotting and eyes gleaming with malice, bursts through the window, snarling. Jill gasps, quickly drawing a sword from its sheath.)

Jill:
By heaven's wrath! A beast of hell doth come!
Foul creature, face my blade, and meet thy doom!

(The hound lunges at her with terrifying speed, its jaws snapping. Jill parries with her sword, narrowly avoiding its teeth. The battle begins.)

Jill: (as she swings her sword)
Thou fiend of flesh and bone, prepare to fall!
No living beast, nor undead fiend so vile,
Shall stand 'gainst this, my sword’s unyielding might!
Thy blood shall spill, thy soul shall meet its night!

(The beast leaps again, but Jill spins and strikes at its side, her sword cutting through its diseased hide. The hound yelps and claws at the ground, enraged.)

Undead Hound: (growling in a disembodied voice)
Thou canst not slay me, mortal fool!
I am the death that walks the earth,
The hunger that consumes, the curse that haunts!

Jill:
Thy words are empty, vile and untrue.
I am not swayed by dark deceit nor fear,
And with this blade, I'll cut thy evil through!

(The hound charges once more, but Jill sidesteps, slashing as it passes. Her blade connects with its leg, and the creature howls in agony. With a roar, it turns, blood dripping from its wound.)

Jill: (shouting)
Come, foul beast, come! This end doth await thee!
Let us see if thou art the greater foe!

(Jill launches herself at the beast, sword raised high. The hound snaps at her, but Jill, with skill and grace, strikes it squarely in the chest. The blade sinks deep, and with a final, guttural growl, the creature collapses, its life extinguished.)

Jill: (breathing heavily, lowering her sword)
At last, thou art no more. Thy torment ends,
And with thy death, this cursed hall is still.

(She stands, wiping her brow, and surveys the wreckage, the shattered window, and the corpse of the beast.)

Jill: (to herself, as she exhales deeply)
But this is but one trial in many, I know.
The mansion’s darkness hides far worse to come.

(She sheaths her sword and strides forward)
Scene: Trapped in the Square Room
(Jill enters a small, empty room, its walls bare and square, with but one door ahead. A sigh of relief escapes her as she spies an ornate crossbow mounted upon the wall, gleaming with potential.)

Jill:
A weapon of power, forged for quick release,
That shall outmatch the fiends that stalk this place!
At last, I’ll arm myself with strength anew,
And cast aside my shattered, worn-out bow.

(She pulls the crossbow from the wall and casts the old weapon aside with a clatter. She looks at the crossbow, a weapon designed for speed and power, and a flicker of hope sparks in her chest. She readies herself to leave the room, but as she approaches the door—click—it locks. A cold shiver crawls down her spine as the other door also clicks shut, trapping her.)

Jill:
What devil’s trick is this? The doors are locked,
And with no way to flee, I stand confined!
But what of that noise? The air grows thin, I fear,
As if the very ceiling seeks my doom.

(The ceiling begins to descend slowly, a terrifying mechanical noise filling the air as Jill looks around, panic rising in her chest. She steps back, then walks a few paces, trying to think of a way out.)

Jill: (frantic)
What sorcery binds me? What fate awaits?
This trap—this cruel device—threatens my end!
Oh, Barry! Help me, help me! Here, I wait!

(The camera shifts to Barry in the hall, his fist pounding against the door.)

Barry:
Jill? Jill, speak! What has happened here?
Where art thou, my friend? Speak, for I am near!

(Jill, with a shaky breath, hears his voice and calls out, desperate.)

Jill: (frightened)
Barry! Aid me, please! The door is locked fast,
And I am trapped beneath this deadly roof!
Quickly, come—before the air grows still and cold!

Barry:
Stay back from the door, I’ll break it down!
Hold on, Jill! I will not let thee fall!

(Barry, with great force, kicks open the door, and it crashes to the ground. He steps inside with urgency, motioning for Jill to run.)

Barry:
Come, quickly, Jill! Away from death’s cold grasp!

(Jill runs toward Barry, and the ceiling continues its descent, but she escapes in time, the trap narrowly avoiding her. They stand together in the hall, safe—for now.)

Jill: (breathing heavily)
Oh, Barry, thou art my savior true!
Thine hand hath spared me from the darkened tomb.
I owe thee more than words can ever say.

Barry: (grinning)
A near escape, fair Jill, but fret not!
For thou wert but a breath from being—
Ah, I say—"a Jill pâté!"

Jill: (laughing)
Thy humor, Barry, dost lighten my heart.
Yet, how strange, for I thought thee bound for the dining hall,
To search for clues, to search for answers deep.
What hast brought thee here, my friend, to me?

Barry: (pausing, avoiding her gaze)
Oh, I had matters to see, nothing more.
Now let us resume our search, for Captain Wesker and brave Chris—
Their fates unknown, their whereabouts unclear.

(Barry turns and begins to walk down the hall, his steps purposeful.)

Jill: (grateful but puzzled)
Thanks, Barry, truly. I know not what would’ve come to pass
Had thou not been here to rescue me.
Mayhap we shall find our comrades soon.

Barry: (distracted, waving off her thanks)
Aye, aye, Jill. But stay sharp, stay close,
For dangers linger in every shadow.

(He exits, leaving Jill in the hall, her heart still racing.)

Scene: Barry in Terrace
(2f Terrace. As Jill enters, Barry pulls his bow on her. He retracts it as he sees who it is. Jill looks shocked.)

Barry: (nervously chuckling)
Jill! Thou dost startle me so!

Jill: What say you? It was I who was about to utter that! Art thou not set upon the first floor’s searching, good Barry?

Barry: Aye, thou art right. Yet, come hither and witness THIS!

(Barry motions at Forest Speyer’s corpse. It has been pecked open to the ribs, and is missing strips of flesh at some places. Barry and Jill walk over to it.)

Barry: ’Tis Forest! Oh, sweet heavens...

Jill: (turns away)
A most dreadful sight! How vile!

Barry: I shall discover what hath caused Forest’s death. (kneels by the body) It seems as though he was slain by crows, or some other beastly thing. Will you search the first floor, Jill?

Jill: (pauses, resolute)
Aye, I shall.

(She turns away and begins to walk.)

Barry: Hold, Jill! This surely must have been Forest’s. Thou hast no weapon, take this with thee. (he hands her a bag of Black Powder Grenades)

(He then returns to the corpse.)
Barry: I cannot believe... What manner of fiend hath done this?

Scene: The Eastern Corridor

(Jill traverses the second-floor corridor, an eerie, winding hall lit with flickering red torches. Shadows dance across the stone walls, and the air is thick with an ominous stillness. Her footsteps echo faintly as she advances. Suddenly, from the deepened shadows, three undead figures rise. Their eyes, glazed and lifeless, lock onto her with unnatural focus. The battle begins.)

Jill: (draws her sword, steadying her breath)
Thy grisly forms dare to cross my path! I shall send thee back to thy dark slumber!

(The first zombie lurches forward, its arms outstretched. Jill sidesteps swiftly, slashing with her blade. The sword sinks deep into its shoulder. It stumbles, but still presses forward. The second zombie closes in, growling low.)

Jill: (parrying with a swift thrust)
Foul beast, thou art no match for my blade!

(She twists the sword, severing the undead’s arm. It howls, but Jill is already turning to face the third zombie as it moves in from her right.)

Jill: (gritting her teeth)
A three-pronged assault—no matter! I shall not yield!

(She slashes low, catching the third zombie’s leg, causing it to stagger. Jill takes a step back, eyes darting between the three foes as they slowly shuffle forward.)

Jill: (whispers to herself)
I need to end this swiftly.

(Jill lunges forward, striking the first zombie in the head, severing its neck with a decisive strike. Its body crumples to the floor. She whirls back to face the remaining two. With a roar, she charges, her blade flashing in the dim red light.)

Jill: (fierce, as she cuts down the second zombie)
Die, thou wretched thing!

(The final zombie lunges, but Jill is quicker. With a final, precise strike, she cleaves the undead’s skull in twain, and it collapses with a thud. Jill stands over the fallen bodies, breathing heavily but victorious.)

Jill: (panting, wiping sweat from her brow)
The dead may walk, but they shall fall before me!

(She pauses for a moment, gazing down at the fallen foes, then quickly scans her surroundings, alert to any further threats.)

Jill: (to herself, resolutely)
Onward. The castle still holds its secrets. I shall not falter.

Scene: The Fall of Sir Richard
(Jill doth kneel by Sir Richard's side, her heart heavy with sorrow. The narrow corridor dost feel more confining, the very air thick with dread. The flick'ring torches cast long shadows upon the stone, making each step a fearful one. On Richard's other side is his squire, young Rebecca doth strive to stanch the blood oozing from Richard's wound.)

Jill: (with trembling voice)
What ailment hath befallen thee, Richard? What wickedness hath struck thee so?

(She looks upon his arm, bloodied and swollen, a foul stench rising from the wound as his breath comes shallow and labored. His veins, like dark rivers of poison, dost pulse with a ghastly hue.)

Richard: (gasping, his breath faltering)
O Jill... This house... it is cursed...
There be terrible beasts here... (he winces in pain)
O! I feel it! The bite... ahh!

Jill: (frantic, her eyes wide with dread)
What fiend hath done this to thee? What beast hath such vile power?

Richard: (gritting his teeth, his voice hoarse)
'Twas a serpent, great and foul...
Its venom... poisonous... to the core. O, the pain!

(Rebecca, pale with fear, doth kneel by Richard’s side, her trembling hands trying to comfort him.)

Rebecca: (with great urgency)
A serpent’s bite, indeed, and the worst I’ve seen in all my days.

Jill: (her voice full of dread)
Poisonous? O, cruel fate! Hold fast, Richard! Hold fast, we’ll find aid!

Rebecca: (her words barely above a whisper, filled with sorrow)
Breathe slower, Richard. The poison doth course through thy veins, and the blood dost hasten its vile passage to thy heart. It must be slowed, but alas... ’tis a grim task.

(Richard’s breathing dost grow faint, and he shaketh his head, summoning the last of his strength.)

Richard: (with faltering breath, weakly)
Death... hath come for me...
Jill... take... my warhorn... (he coughs, struggling)
Keep it... I beg thee... I—

(Richard’s body dost tremble one last time, and with a final sigh, his arm falls limp by his side. The blood spills forth like a river, staining the cold stone beneath him. His breath hath ceased. He is dead.)

Jill: (with great grief, her voice breaking)
No! Richard! Thou canst not leave me thus!

(She takes his warhorn, her hand trembling as she doth clutch it to her breast. Rebecca, looking on with tear-filled eyes, doth turn away, for grief hath overwhelmed her.)

Rebecca: (whispering softly, her voice strained)
We... we could not save him...

(Jill doth rise, her tears unbidden. She wipes them away, but the weight of sorrow dost cling to her. She looks down upon the lifeless form of Sir Richard, the horror of the moment weighing heavy upon her soul.)

Jill: (with a voice both firm and sorrowful)
I swear upon his soul, his death shall not be in vain! We shall seek the fiend that caused this, and make him pay for his wicked deeds!

(Rebecca doth nod, her own grief stifled by Jill’s strength. Together, they turn away from Richard’s body, stepping forth into the darkness, their hearts heavy, yet driven by the will to seek justice for the fallen knight.)

Jill: (softly, to Rebecca, as they leave the corridor)
We shall find the serpent that caused this harm... and end its reign of terror.

Scene: The Attic Confrontation

(In the dim-lit attic, the air thick with dust, Jill and Rebecca tread carefully, their footsteps muffled by the ancient wooden boards beneath. A faint torch flickers, casting shadows that dance across broken crates and shattered wine bottles. The scent of stale earth and mildew fills the air, and then, from the corner of their eyes, a dark shape stirs. It uncoils, and its massive form slithers forth like a serpent from the depths of hell.)

Jill: (whispers, her voice trembling with dread)
What foul creature lies before us, wrapped in shadow and scorn?

(The creature reveals itself, its enormous green form writhing, its eyes burning with malice. Venom drips from its fangs, and with a hiss that echoes through the air, it prepares to strike. Its scales shimmer, a sickly sheen in the dim light.)

Rebecca: (her voice faltering, hand trembling on her dagger)
Aye, 'tis the very serpent that claimed poor Richard. I know its poison well—nay, I fear it most!

Jill: (drawing her crossbow with a steady hand)
Then, let us face it in battle, for if we flee, we shall surely perish. Stand firm, Rebecca! I shall take the first shot.

(With a hiss, the serpent lunges. Jill fires her crossbow, but the beast is swift, twisting its massive body with unnerving grace. The bolt grazes its scales, but the creature remains undeterred, roaring with fury. It strikes at Jill with lightning speed, its jaws snapping shut with a thunderous crash.)

Jill: (leaping to the side, narrowly avoiding the strike)
By the heavens, 'tis quicker than a striking viper!

Rebecca: (frantic, looking around for something to use against the beast)
Jill! I have naught but this humble dagger—what more can I do?

Jill: (gritting her teeth as she reloads her crossbow)
Throw whatever ye have, Rebecca! We must distract it, or we are lost!

(Rebecca, eyes wide with desperation, grabs a vial from her belt—an alchemical concoction. She hurls it toward the serpent, and with a loud crash, it bursts open, filling the air with a foul-smelling gas. The serpent recoils, hissing in agony, but its fury only grows as it thrashes about, seemingly unaffected by the poison.)

Rebecca: (shouting, her voice shaking with fear)
It does not weaken! What more must we do?

Jill: (her voice fierce, though her brow is slick with sweat)
We strike at its heart! Its venomous fangs shall be no match for our courage! Aim for its eyes, or the throat—whichever will bring it low!

(The serpent strikes again, but this time, Jill is prepared. She dodges deftly, her crossbow drawn and ready. She fires once, twice, the bolts sinking deep into the serpent’s side and eye. The creature screeches, rearing back, its body thrashing wildly.)

Jill: (yelling, as she reloads once more)
Rebecca! Throw the rest of the vials! We shall not let this beast live!

(Rebecca, with trembling hands, hurls another vial—a flask of Laudanum—toward the serpent. The bottle shatters upon impact, and the creature, disoriented, flails with an ear-splitting hiss. It stumbles, its huge body writhing in confusion as the Laudanum takes its toll.)

Jill: (her voice tight with determination)
Now, Rebecca! Now, we finish this!

(Jill charges forward, both crossbows aimed, and fires two bolts in quick succession. One strikes the serpent’s other eye, and the second buries deep into its throat. With a final, terrible screech, the serpent falls to the floor, its monstrous body writhing for a moment before going still.)

Rebecca: (panting, her face pale with the strain)
By all the saints, it is done. We have slain the beast!

Jill: (falling to one knee, her breath heavy, but her voice resolute)
Aye, but not without a fight. The path is still fraught with danger, and we must press on. Let us not linger, for peril still stalks us.

(The serpent lies motionless, defeated, but Jill and Rebecca know that the dangers of the cursed place are far from over. With one last look at the fallen creature, they turn to face the darkness ahead, their steps echoing in the stillness of the attic.)

Jill: (grim)
Come, Rebecca.
(As Jill and Rebecca make their way toward the dim-lit doorway, their footsteps echoing off the cold stone, the serpent’s massive form stirs in the darkness. Slowly, it moves, its body slithering quietly across the attic floor, leaving behind a trail of blood and venom. Its massive eyes—blinded by the bolts—gleam faintly as it retreats into the shadows. Its breath is slow, labored, but still it lives. The ground trembles ever so slightly under its weight.)

(Jill and Rebecca, oblivious to the creature’s survival, continue their retreat through the narrow corridor, the sound of their footsteps the only noise in the otherwise oppressive silence.)
Scene: The Weight of Time

(The heavy wooden door creaks open, revealing the grand main foyer bathed in the cold light of the flickering torches. The floor beneath their feet groans with age, and the air is thick with dust. As Jill steps inside, she notices Rebecca’s condition immediately—her face gaunt, her eyes hollow, her once bright spirit now dimmed by the trials she has endured. Her every movement is slow, labored, as though the weight of the past days has crushed her will. She collapses upon the bottom stair.
Jill: (kneeling beside Rebecca, offering a flask of water)
Drink, sweet Rebecca, and take thy rest.
For I must walk the path alone from here,
And face what may come with a steadfast heart.
(Rebecca weakly takes the flask from Jill’s hand, her fingers trembling. She sips slowly, her breath ragged. She lowers the flask, her eyes filled with sorrow and fatigue as she gazes at Jill.)

Rebecca: (softly, as though the weight of her words were too heavy to bear)
Jill… What horrors have we seen within these walls?
The serpent, the walking dead men, and now… the air itself,
A venomous cloud that wraps ‘round our souls.
How many days have we wandered this cursed place?
What cruel hand hath bound us here in sorrow?

Jill: (her gaze firm, her voice steady as a stone)
Time, dear Rebecca, hath no meaning here.
We are but ghosts in a house of shadow.
How long we have wandered, I know not;
But know this—our only hope is to press forward,
To tear the veil of darkness that doth choke us so.
We shall not leave until we conquer this evil.

(Rebecca, her spirit worn thin, lets the flask fall from her hand, resting her head upon the cool stone. Her voice, though faint, doth carry a heaviness of despair.)

Rebecca: (faintly, as if to herself)
I wish I could stand beside thee, Jill,
But the weight of this place, and the battles we’ve fought,
Hath stolen what strength I once held dear.

Jill: (with gentle hands upon Rebecca’s shoulders, her voice soft yet full of resolve)
Rest thee now, brave soul, for thou hast fought well.
But this fight is mine to face—alone.
I shall walk this cursed mansion’s halls,
And find what waits within the shadows.
Thou needst not share this burden longer.

(Rebecca’s eyes flutter closed, her breath slow and steady. Jill, with a final glance, doth turn and walk toward the darkened hallway, her heart heavy but resolute. Her footsteps echo upon the cold stone floor, the weight of her own words pressing heavily upon her: "Alone." She knows the path ahead is fraught with peril, but she must walk it nonetheless.)

Rebecca: (her voice, weak but full of sorrow, drifts through the quiet air)
Jill… be wary. The shadows do watch,
And they are not as kind as we may hope.

(Jill stops, her back still to Rebecca, and speaks over her shoulder in a voice low and unwavering.)

Jill: (resolute)
I know, dear friend. But I fear them not.
I shall show them that even in darkness,
A soul like mine shines brighter than their deepest night.

ACT II, Scene I: The Private Chamber

(Enter Jill, stumbling into a room, disheveled, her breath labored as she surveys the abandoned private chamber. The room is dark, save for the faint glow of a single candle on a table. The walls are cracked, and the air is thick with decay. A rotted corpse lies next to the bed, a pool of blood staining the floor. The room is filled with debris, as if a hasty departure or some violent struggle had occurred. Jill moves cautiously, her eyes catching sight of a parchment on the table, with bloody fingerprints upon it. She approaches, her hand trembling as she takes the paper, reading aloud the cryptic musings written upon it.)
''May the 9th, Year of our Lord, 1998
By nightfall, we played at dice with Scott, the guard, Alias, and Steve, the scholar of the keep.
Steve was most fortunate, but I suspect foul play upon his part. Methinks he cheats! A scoundrel, truly.

(Jill’s brow furrows, unease gripping her heart as she continues reading, the words seeming to twist with an unnatural air.)

May the 10th, Year of our Lord, 1998
This morn, a noble researcher did request my service to tend a new beast. 'Tis a creature like unto a great neanderthal, yet without skin—its flesh is raw, and vile! I was commanded to provide it with living food. When I threw in a swine, it played with the poor beast... tearing its legs asunder, pulling forth its entrails ere it feasted upon its remains.

(A grim shudder runs through Jill, her heart sinking with the horror of the written words.)

May the 11th, Year of our Lord, 1998
At the fifth hour of the morning, Scott did come upon me, waking me from slumber most rudely. He donned a strange garb—that garb and mask of the plague doctors, a protective suit to shield him from wretched contagion. He bade me wear such attire, as there had been a foul mishap in the lower chambers of the keep. ’Tis no wonder, for those scholars work endlessly, never resting, even in the dead of night.
May the 12th, Year of our Lord, 1998
These garments, most vexing, I have worn since yesterday’s morn. The air grows foul, my skin grows heavy and prickles with itch. In my spite, I withheld the beasts’ feed—those hounds that have been far too ravenous. But in so doing, I feel some small reprieve, a momentary balm to my wearied soul.
May the 13th, Year of our Lord, 1998
My back, swollen and riddled with itching, led me to the healer’s chamber. There, they wrapped me with a bandage, but ‘tis no cure for the deep discomfort. The physician assured me I need not don that wretched suit any longer. Perhaps, tonight, I shall sleep in peace, for a brief respite.
May the 14th, Year of our Lord, 1998
Upon awakening this morn, another blister was found upon my foot. Most distressing! And as I dragged mine foot toward the dogs’ pen, a most strange stillness overtook them. They had not stirred at all. What is this strange quietude? To mine horror, I discovered that some of the hounds have escaped their cage. The consequences shall be dire if the lords of this house find out.

(Jill pauses for a moment, her breath quickening, as the ominous tone of the writing sinks in.)

May the 15th, Year of our Lord, 1998
Though my body doth ache, I resolved to visit Nancy on this, my first day of rest in many weeks. Yet, on mine way out, the guards did stop me. A new command had come, barring all from leaving the grounds. I may not even send word by messenger. What jest is this, I wonder?
May the 16th, Year of our Lord, 1998
I heard a tale of woe—that a scholar who attempted escape was slain upon the very grounds. At night, the fever doth rage within mine body, and in the dark hours, I scratch at swelling that consumes my arms. As I claw at the flesh, lumps of rotten meat fall from me. What wickedness is this? What fate has befallen me?
(Jill falters in her reading, a cold chill running down her spine as the words take on a nightmarish quality.)
May the 19th, Year of our Lord, 1998
The fever hath passed, yet still the itch persists. My hunger gnaws at me, and I have resorted to feeding upon the dogs’ food. It was foul, but it served to quiet mine own belly.
Scott did come again. His face was most foul, and so I struck him down.
Tasted good.
Itchy.
Tasty.

Jill: (softly, horrified)
By the heavens… what foul creature hath this poor soul become?
This madness… it breeds upon this land. And what of Scott, and the others?
(Behind her, a foul, gurgling voice rises, thick with the sputtering of blood and the rasp of death itself.)
Voice:
ITCHY! TASTY!
(The words are broken, twisted by the effort to speak through blood-choked lungs.)

(Jill turns swiftly, her eyes widening as she beholds the wardrobe door burst open, its hinges screaming in protest. There, from the shadows, lurches the Keeper—a twisted, half-decayed wretch, its body flayed and rotting, hunger still burning in its hollow eyes. With every step, it groans and coughs up blood, its mind lost to madness.)
Keeper:
ITCHY! TASTY!
(It stumbles forward, its hands reaching for her with a wild, crazed desire.)
(Without hesitation, she draws her blade with precision. Her eyes narrow as she steps forward, her movements deliberate, swift. The blade sinks deep into the Keeper’s skull, cleaving through the decaying bone and silencing the beast forever.)
Jill:
(Her voice cold, unwavering as she pulls the blade free, the creature’s body crumbling to the floor in a heap of rot and ruin.)
No longer.
(She wipes her blade clean with grim determination, her resolve hardening like steel as the oppressive silence of the room settles once more.)
Exeunt.

Scene: "The Horn’s Echo and the Shadowed Cottage"

(The curtain rises to reveal a thickly overgrown garden behind the keep. The air is heavy with the scent of rot and damp earth. A shattered fountain, its waters long stilled, rests in the center. Two savage hounds, gaunt and hungry, lurk within the foliage, their eyes aglow with hunger. Jill enters, her sword drawn, her pace swift.)

Jill:
(aside, to herself)
O, fate is cruel! With hounds now set to feast,
I must my blade unsheath and face this beast.

(The hounds growl and charge, snapping at her with ferocious hunger. Jill, swift as the wind, slashes one across the throat, yet the other lunges toward her leg. With a quick twist, she evades, narrowly avoiding the savage bite. She strikes again, and the second beast falls, its blood staining the ground.)

Jill:
(panting, wiping her brow)
Foul creatures, slain and now I am set free,
But hark! What sound comes, distant, through the trees?

(A distant warhorn echoes through the silence. Jill freezes, her heart quickening in her chest.)

Jill:
(whispering)
That call! A warhorn's blare from yonder hill,
Mayhap 'tis Brad, who hears my cry so still.

(Without hesitation, she pulls Richard’s warhorn from her belt, placing it to her lips. She blows with all her might, the sound ringing through the air.)

Jill:
O Brad, if thou dost live, hear now this call,
And know that I yet live, though shadows fall!

(She listens intently, her breath caught in her throat, but no answer comes. With a grim resolve, she crosses the overgrown garden, her path winding through the tangled brush. Ahead, a bridge spans a deep, yawning chasm, and beneath it, a waterfall roars, its waters crashing in a curtain of white. Jill pauses, gazing upon the scene.)

Jill:
This bridge doth lead me to what fate I know not,
Yet forward still, I must, with courage wrought.

(She crosses the bridge, the sound of the waterfall growing louder with each step. At the far end, she spies a ladder leading down to the base of the falls. The water crashes violently below, blocking her path, yet she presses on. She ascends the ladder and climbs to the far side, where a heavy gate stands, its hinges rusty with age. She pushes it open, stepping into the shadowed space beyond.)

Jill:
(softly, as she enters the cottage)
A cottage dark, where silence reigns supreme,
What shadows lurk within this darkened dream?

(The door creaks open, revealing a dimly lit room, old and neglected. Dust hangs in the air like a veil, and the faint scent of decay lingers. Jill steps cautiously inside, her sword raised, ready for whatever awaits.)

Jill:
(whispering)
By sword and will, I seek to find my way,
Through nights of fear, and unto break of day.

(The stage darkens as she disappears into the shadows of the cottage, the door closing softly behind her.)

End Scene.

Scene:The Dormitory's Grasp

(The scene opens with a long, narrow hall within the dormitory, a building adjacent to the Spencer Mansion. The air is thick with the musk of decay, and the shadows seem to stretch unnaturally long. The floorboards creak underfoot, worn by time and the heavy steps of those who once called this place home. Jill, her senses sharp, jogs down the hallway, her sword at her side, her heart pounding with anticipation.)

Jill:
(aside)
This place, once vibrant, now dark and cursed,
I feel the weight of centuries, and thirst
For answers from the depths of shadowed halls,
Where silent whispers echo through these walls.

(She walks swiftly, but suddenly, her foot catches on something—something hidden beneath the wooden floor. With a sudden lurch, a gray tendril shoots out from the hole, snaking up around her ankle. The tendril is thick and vine-like, its grip tightening, pulling her toward the gaping maw of the hole below.)

Jill:
(crying out in pain)
What foul thing hath come to grasp my soul?
A serpent’s coil, or some dark, cursed goal?

(The tendril pulls harder, and Jill stumbles, her balance lost as the pain shoots through her leg. She raises her sword, her breath ragged, and with a desperate swing, she slashes through the vine-like appendage. The tendril recoils with an eerie hiss, releasing her with a final, sharp tug.)

Jill:
(struggling, gasping)
By all that is holy, what fiend lies beneath?
Such vile creatures lurk in the deepest sheath!
No time to waste—away I must flee,
For more horrors await, I know, ‘tis clear to see!

(With a final grunt, Jill pulls free of the tendril’s grasp, the severed end writhing in the dim light. She staggers backward, her heart still racing, and quickly takes her sword in hand, running for the door at the end)

Scene: The Gambler's Den

(Jill enters a large, dimly lit room at the end of the hallway. The air is thick with the scent of damp earth and something far fouler, as if the room itself has been abandoned for years. The floor is scattered with overturned chairs and faded carpets, and broken tables still hold remnants of cards and dice, evidence of the place’s former purpose. At the far end of the room, where the shadows stretch deepest, the faintest scuttling noise catches Jill’s ear.)
Jill:
(speaking under her breath)
What devilry lurks here, where men once played
Their tricks and games of chance—now grimly laid
To rest? What madness twists this place, I ask?

(She takes a cautious step forward, her sword ready in hand, eyes scanning the room. Suddenly, the floor creaks ominously beneath her feet. A low, guttural hiss breaks the silence, echoing from the farthest corners of the room. Jill freezes, her senses screaming a warning.)

(From the dark recesses of the den, a monstrous shape emerges. At first, it’s barely a shadow, but then its full form becomes apparent—gigantic tarantulas, each the size of a full-grown ox. Their bulbous eyes glint in the dim light, and their massive legs scrape the floor with terrifying force as they scuttle forward, their venomous fangs dripping with poison.)

Jill:
(whispering to herself)
By the heavens… what grotesque abominations are these?

(The first spider lunges toward her with incredible speed, its fangs snapping with a venomous hiss. Jill sidesteps just in time, slashing with her sword, but the creature is undeterred, its many legs swiftly circling her. The second spider advances, its black body gleaming in the faint light, its pincers clicking menacingly.)

Jill:
(gritting her teeth)
No time for hesitation—strike fast and true!
I’ve fought worse than this, but I’ll not be the fool.

(Jill swings her sword with precision, severing one of the spider's legs, causing it to falter for a moment. But the creature is relentless, and it rears back, preparing to strike again. Jill spins and slashes, narrowly avoiding a venomous bite. She moves quickly, stepping back and using her agility to her advantage.)

Jill:
(to herself, steadying her breath)
These monsters think me weak, but I shall show them
What steel and resolve can do, when blood is shed.

(With a fierce cry, Jill lunges forward, her sword striking true, plunging into the tarantula’s head with a sickening crunch. The creature falls, twitching violently before lying still. She doesn’t pause to catch her breath, for the second spider is already upon her, its fangs snapping dangerously close to her neck.)
(She spins around, narrowly dodging the attack, Her movements are quick, but the creature is faster, and this time, she is too slow. Its fangs sink deep into her flesh, and a vile spray of poison erupts from its maw. It coats her skin, a cold, burning sensation that spreads like wildfire through her veins. Jill’s body jerks with pain, her sword flailing blindly as she stumbles back. The world blurs around her, her vision narrowing as the venom works its dark magic.)

Jill:
(voice trembling with pain)
Curse you, beast! I’ll—
(gritting her teeth)
I’ll see you dead yet!

(One of the spider's legs is severed by her wild swing, and it screeches in a horrific, high-pitched wail as it stumbles backward. Jill seizes the opportunity, throwing herself back into the hall with a desperate lunge. She kicks the door shut behind her with a force that sends a tremor through her body, but it’s no relief—the poison is spreading too quickly.)

Jill:
(her voice strained, struggling to stay upright)
What is this cursed pain?
It burns through my blood, like fire in my veins,
I’ll not succumb… not now, not ever!

(She stumbles through the hallway, her vision dimming. Her breaths are shallow, her body weak and trembling with the relentless pull of the venom. She feels it in her chest, a crushing weight, suffocating her. Antidote. She needs an antidote.)

(Her eyes, fevered and wide, dart across the room, searching for anything that might save her. There, by the exit, she sees them—houseplants, thick and green, their leaves rich with life. But there, near the base, one stands out. A deep, cobalt blue. Her heart skips a beat, and her grandmother’s voice echoes in her mind.)

Grandmother’s voice:
(soft and loving, like a whisper of memory)
“Go eat it, dear! Now, the blue herb will cleanse you. It holds the power to undo what ails thee.”
(The words ring in Jill’s mind like a bell, and without thinking, she stumbles toward the plants, her fingers shaking as she reaches for the blue one. She pulls it from its pot, its vibrant color a stark contrast to the dullness creeping through her body.)

Jill:
(gritting her teeth in determination)
A life or death gamble, eh? But what else have I to lose?

(She crumbles the herb in her hands, its bitter scent sharp in her nostrils. Her vision flickers, her mind foggy, but she presses the crushed leaves to her mouth, forcing herself to swallow the bitter, pungent concoction. She gasps as the juice slides down her throat, the burn of the poison still present, but now… a new sensation spreads. A coolness. A soothing balm against the fire inside her.)

(For a moment, she stands still, as though waiting for the herb to do its work, praying that the old tale was true. Then, slowly, her body begins to relax, the burning heat subsiding. Her breath steadies as the pain lifts, the venom’s hold weakening.)

Jill:
(her voice shaky but relieved)
It worked… it actually worked.
(gritting her teeth)
I’ll not fall prey to such trickery.

Scene: Whispers in the Hallway

(With a flash of anger and desperation, Jill leaps over the gaping hole in the floor. The tendrils, now weakened and futile, reach out in vain, but she is already past them, throwing herself through the door it guarded. She lands on the other side with a thud, her boots scraping against the worn stone floor. The hallway ahead is dim, the walls cracked and crumbling, fragments of alchemical scripts scattered on the floor like abandoned thoughts. There is a palpable sense of decay in the air, as if the very structure of this place is being swallowed by time.)

(Her heart racing, Jill moves cautiously, her steps careful yet swift, knowing that danger could be around any corner. She approaches the end of the hallway, where she hears voices. Low murmurs at first, too faint to make out, but one voice rises above the rest—Barry’s. She freezes, pressing her ear to the door, her senses heightened. She strains to catch every word, her heart pounding in her chest.)

Barry: (sharply, his voice thick with disbelief)
It cannot be! For I have heard a tale most other! A truth far different!

(A pause stretches, long and laden with the weight of unspoken things. Jill, crouched in the shadows, feels her very spine shiver as the silence wraps 'round her like a shroud. What dark secret does he guard? To whom doth he speak?)

Barry: (lower now, with a tremor of dread creeping in)
But nay! Thou need not destroy the Knights!

(Another long, drawn silence. Jill's breath stills as she strains to hear, knowing that these words carry the weight of doom, but the answer is but a whisper from the other side, one she cannot yet make out. What pact is being forged in these hidden corners?)

Barry: (with rising panic, as though the weight of the truth grows too heavy to bear)
What of mine own kin?! Can ye not spare them their fate?

(The silence presses in, thick and suffocating. Jill feels the very air pulse with tension, as though the walls themselves hold their breath. The words left unsaid hang in the gloom, like a dark omen.)

Barry: (quietly, the last traces of defiance slipping away, his voice trembling with reluctant understanding)
So, 'tis true then... All doth rest upon me... Does it?
(Jill’s mind races as the words echo in her head. What has Barry gotten himself tangled in? And why does it involve the Knights? Her grip tightens on her sword as she considers her next move.)

(She hears a shuffle from the other side of the door—a shift in position, perhaps Barry standing, or someone else moving within. The conversation isn’t over, and she’s not sure how much more she can hear without being discovered. But what she’s already learned is enough to make her stomach turn. She knows she can’t wait any longer.)

(With a silent breath, Jill takes a step back, then pushes the door open slowly, cautiously, determined to confront whatever truths lie hidden within this dark, twisted place.)

(As Jill enters, she surveys the dim corridor, her eyes alight with suspicion, yet she walks on. She crosses paths with Barry, who greets her with a weary air.)

Barry: (casually, with a forced cheer)
Hail, Jill.

Jill: (somewhat hesitant, her brow furrowed)
Ah, Barry. I— I heard voices just now. What manner of words were those?

Barry: (with a half-smile, though his eyes betray his unease)
Ah, so thou heardest it too... Methinks I’ve grown quite ancient. 'Tis become a habit, I find, to speak to mine own self as if I were naught but a fool.

Jill: (with concern, her gaze steady on him)
Talking to thyself, Barry? Pray, what strange magic hath possessed thee? Surely some dire event hath befallen thee. Am I not right to wonder? Thy words are not as I recall them.

Barry: (laughing softly, though it rings hollow, his hand brushing through his hair as he avoids her gaze)
Ah, Jill, I see I've given thee cause for worry, yet worry not. Perhaps it is but the madness of the times. I confess, I’ve been a wreck, yes, of late, what with all this wickedness that stalks our steps.
(pauses, collecting himself)
But fear not. I think I shall take a stroll. A breath of fresh air may restore what little sanity I have left.

(Barry moves to pass Jill, his steps light but quick.)

Barry: (with a strained chuckle as he walks past, his tone darkening as he speaks under his breath)
Aye, I shall fetch some fresh air... and, mayhaps, be devoured by a monster in the process.

(Barry exits hurriedly, his form vanishing into the dimness. Jill stands frozen, hand outstretched as though to stop him, but her voice falls silent.)

(Scene ends.)

Scene: Beast In Water
(Jill stands in the narrow hallway, her eyes catching sight of a recently disturbed bookcase. She steps closer, her fingers brushing the spines of the books, feeling the weight of secrecy in the air. With a quiet grunt, she moves it aside, revealing a ladder leading downward, cloaked in shadow. Her heart quickens; there, perhaps, is where the mystery lies.)

Jill: (muttering to herself, her voice tinged with both resolve and trepidation)
What wicked path hast thou tread, Barry? Or is it some other hand that guides thee still?
(She hesitates only a moment before her resolve hardens. Her fingers grip the ladder, and with a deep breath, she begins her descent into the unknown.)

(As Jill's feet hit the damp stone floor below, a foul, musty air greets her, the smell of decay and mildew thick in her nostrils. The weak flicker of torches cast long shadows upon the walls of the narrow corridor ahead. Her steps echo in the silence, the oppressive weight of the darkened passage pressing in.)

Jill: (in a whisper, her voice barely above the soft drip of water that echoes through the chamber)
By the heavens... What foulness awaits me here? Whose whispers hath guided me thus?
(She presses on, her footfalls soft and measured, until the corridor opens into a room. At the far end, a door stands ajar, beckoning her forward like the mouth of a beast ready to swallow her whole. The water pools about her ankles as she crosses, but she does not falter. Every instinct screams that what lies beyond that door holds answers… or perhaps more questions.)
(Jill steps into the circular chamber, her boots sinking into the floodwaters that rise to her waist. The chill of the water bites at her legs, the weight of it tugging at her, pulling her deeper into the room. The oppressive silence of the flooded space is broken only by the sound of her breathing and the soft ripple of the water around her. The walls seem to close in with each step she takes, the room vast but ominous.)

(Suddenly, her sharp eyes catch sight of a movement in the water—something sleek, a dark shadow cutting through the murk. She stands still, her breath held in her chest. She spots it before she hears it: the glint of a fin slicing through the water’s surface, unmistakable.)

Jill: (to herself, breathless and filled with dread)
By the gods... What manner of beast is this?

(The fin cuts closer, the water now disturbed by something massive beneath the surface. The tension in the air is suffocating, as Jill's heart pounds in her chest. Then she sees it—its great maw opening wide, fangs gleaming like knives under the murky water. The bloodstained trail follows in its wake, a dark streak that marks its path.)

Jill: (her voice low, tense)
A beast from the depths... And I, its prey.

(The great white shark, its body immense, surges toward her with terrifying speed. Its jaws gape wide, a chilling screech vibrating through the water. Jill’s hand snaps to the hilt of her crossbow, her fingers trembling but determined. She sheathes her blade with a swift motion, her eyes never leaving the shark’s gleaming eyes as it draws closer.)

Jill: (gritted teeth, her voice steady, despite the fear)
I’ll not let thee feast on me, wretched beast.

(She aims the crossbow with precise focus, the shark’s shadow looming ever closer. The tension builds—she must strike true before the monster can reach her. A single breath, and her finger pulls the trigger.)

(The bolt flies through the water, the sound of it a sharp crack against the silence. It strikes the shark, embedding deep into its hide. The beast thrashes, a furious, blood-soaked frenzy as it turns toward Jill.)

Jill: (stepping back, her voice rising with urgency)
Stay back! Stay back, ye foul creature!

(The water churns violently as the shark lunges toward her, the floodwaters now more chaotic. Jill’s pulse races as she readies another bolt, her aim unwavering as the beast prepares for another attack.
(The shark lunges, its massive form crashing into Jill with brutal force. The impact sends a sharp pain through her body as its rows of teeth snap around her metal shin guards, sinking deep into the steel with a terrible screech. She stumbles, her footing lost in the dark, murky water, and with a frantic gasp, her crossbow slips from her grip and disappears beneath the waves.)

(The shark, relentless and cruel, twists in the water and pulls Jill with it. The beast’s powerful tail flicks through the flood, dragging her down deeper into the darkness. Jill’s heart races, her breath comes in ragged gasps, the cold, suffocating water rushing into her mouth as she fights to stay above the surface.)

Jill: (her voice barely a whisper, desperate)
Not today… not today…
(She clutches the shark’s fin with all her strength, her hands slick with blood and water, her grip slipping, but she does not let go. The shark thrashes, pulling her further down, trying to shake her off. She feels the pressure of the water around her chest, the cold creeping into her bones as her body is dragged deeper.)

(Desperation surges through her as she fights to keep herself from being swallowed by the depths. Gasping for air, she draws a small dagger from her side with trembling hands, the weapon clutched tightly in her grip. She stabs forward with all her strength, aiming for the shark’s head, desperate to end the beast’s assault.)
(The blade cuts into the shark’s tough hide, the resistance strong, but Jill’s will stronger. She stabs again and again, the knife sinking deeper with each strike, blood mixing with the water around her as the beast thrashes wildly. The pressure in the water grows, the beast’s panicked movements intensifying, and Jill’s strength begins to waver.)
(The shark howls thrashes more violently, its body twitching as Jill presses the dagger forward once more. With a final, desperate thrust, the blade plunges deep into the shark’s skull. The water around her turns thick with blood, the shark’s thrashing slowing as it succumbs to the damage. With one last shudder, the creature goes still, and Jill feels its massive body slip beneath her. Desperatly, her lungs near death, she explodes from the surface and draws in deep breaths of precious air)
Jill: (breathless, a defiant whisper)
I’ll live. For now… I’ll live.
(She pulls herself from the water, trembling, exhausted, but alive, the shark’s lifeless body floating nearby in the bloody flood.)
(Jill ventures further into the chamber, the water sloshing about her thighs, her every step labored and heavy. The sight before her is one of wretched disarray—a storehouse of battle’s relics, drowned and ruined. Shattered blades lie in heaps as though cast aside by despairing hands, rusted shields lean haplessly against the walls, and barrels of powder, sodden and useless, reek of decay.)

Jill: (with hushed awe, her voice a whisper to the empty hall)
What cruel tempest hath laid waste to this hall?
What warriors bold have bled their might to naught,
Their arms surrendered to the flood’s embrace?

(Her fingers graze a splintered shaft of a halberd, now but a ghost of war’s glory. As she steps forward, the faint gleam of gold catches her eye—a key, gilded and ornate, perched atop a toppled coffer. She draws near, her hand trembling as she retrieves it, the inscription catching the weak light of the chamber.)

Jill: (reading aloud, with mounting intrigue)
“The Garden”… a name to stir both hope and dread.
Perchance the gate above shall yield its truth
With thee, bright key, to guide my wary hand.

(She holds the key aloft, studying its craftsmanship—a relic of care amidst the chamber’s decay. Tucking it safely away, she casts a last glance upon the flooded armory, a faint sigh escaping her lips.)

Jill:
Now onward must I press, though doubts do bite,
For answers wait beyond this drowning blight.

(She turns, her boots splashing in the water, and wades back toward the way she came, the key clutched tightly)

Scene: A Foul Growth
(As Jill emerges from the ladder and back into the hall, the scattered parchments crunch beneath her boots. Her hand still clutches the golden key, her mind turning over the possibilities of what might lie beyond the "Garden" door. She pauses, hearing the clash of metal and the buzz of unnatural wings. Ahead in the hallway, a figure battles fiercely—Wesker. His blade flashes in the dim torchlight as he slashes at monstrous bees, their oversized forms grotesque, stingers dripping venom. One by one, they fall to his skillful strikes, their green blood staining the floor.)

Jill: (stepping forward, her voice steady but edged with concern)
Wesker!

(Wesker, standing over the broken carcasses, wipes his blade clean and turns to her, his expression unreadable.)
Wesker:
Jill… so thou art unharmed.

Jill: (crossing her arms, studying him)
The same might I say of thee. Pray, where hast thou wandered?
Thou vanished swift from the hall, as shadow’s fleet.

Wesker: (sheathing his sword with a sigh)
Forgive me, Jill. My path bore me hence
For reasons mine own. Didst thou not meet them—
These wretched fiends, nature’s perversion dire?
’Twas all I could do to hold my life intact.

Jill: (eyeing him skeptically)
Is that so? Yet ‘tis heartening to see thee whole.

Wesker: (nodding gravely)
Our foremost charge, fair Jill, is our escape;
No more must we linger in this cursed place.

Jill: (with a curt nod)
Aye, on that we agree. Yet many doors
Remain fast barred within yon mansion’s keep.
Hast thou uncovered aught to ease our way?

Wesker: (his tone measured, his gaze narrowing)
I’ve searched for signs, yet riddles bar my path.
Perhaps thou canst discern what I cannot.

Jill: (lifting the golden key as she speaks)
I’ve found a key, marked “Garden”—a clue, perchance,
To mysteries that lie yet unexplored.
I’ll seek this place, and hope for answers there.

Wesker: (pausing, then stepping closer, his voice lower)
Do so, but heed me, Jill: keep thine eyes sharp,
And mark well Barry’s deeds. A shadow hangs
O’er him—some secret wrests his mind from ease.

Jill: (hesitant, frowning slightly)
I’ve noticed strange unease within his tongue.
Yet who among us, trapped in this foul snare,
Could claim a mind unshaken?

Wesker: (with a faint smile, though it does not reach his eyes)
Mayhap. Still, trust thy instincts, Jill, and tread
With caution close. Fare thee well.

(Without another word, Wesker turns and strides away, his movements swift and deliberate, leaving Jill standing in the hallway. She watches him go, the weight of his words settling uneasily in her chest. A sense of foreboding lingers, her resolve firming as she turns toward her next destination.)

Jill: (to herself, softly)
The truth lies hidden, tangled in this web.
Yet I shall pull the strands ‘til all is clear.

(Jill stands before the great oaken door marked "Garden," the golden key trembling in her grasp as she inserts it into the lock. The heavy mechanism turns, and the door groans open with an ominous creak. A wave of vile, poisonous air assails her senses, its stench thick as decay. Coughing, she steps within, her crossbow drawn, her boots sinking into a swampy floor overgrown with twisting vines, foul-smelling blossoms, and creeping ivy. The chamber resembles a jungle corrupted, its verdant beauty long since turned monstrous.)

(Her eyes are drawn upward to the ceiling where hangs a monstrous pod, like a grotesque flower, its pulsing body oozing green venom. The plant's tendrils lash out wildly, searching for prey, their reach like serpents eager to strike. Jill’s heart pounds as she realizes the creature—this thing—cannot move from its rooted perch. Yet its wrath is far from stationary.)

Jill: (to herself, steeling her nerves)
Foul beast of root and venom, thou shalt taste steel.

(The creature shrieks, a sound both plantlike and animalistic, its tendrils snapping toward her with deadly intent. Jill darts to the curving stairwell that spirals around the room. With quick precision, she ascends the first landing, her back pressing against the cold stone. She spins, aiming her crossbow, and fires bolt after bolt. Each strike sends the creature’s tendrils flailing wildly, severing them one by one. Green ichor spills forth like sap from a wounded tree, coating the floor below.)

(The monstrous flower recoils, contracting into itself, its massive form shrinking into a quivering ball of flesh and petal. Yet as Jill steps closer, thinking her work done, the plant unfurls suddenly, one massive tendril surging forth. Before she can react, it wraps around her waist and drags her into the air, her weapon falling from her grasp as she struggles against its iron grip.)

Jill: (gasping for breath)
No! Not like this!

(As the tendril tightens, Barry bursts through the door, his blade drawn, his face a mask of grim determination.)

Barry: (bellowing, his voice cutting through the chaos)
What devilry is this?

Jill: (choking out, her voice strained)
Barry! Help!

(Barry wastes no time. He casts his blade aside and draws forth powder bombs from his satchel, hurling them with unerring precision at the monstrous pod. The room fills with acrid smoke as flames lick at the creature’s poisonous flesh. It screeches, its grip on Jill loosening, until it finally flings her aside to the ground below. Jill scrambles away as the monstrous plant thrashes, consumed by fire, its once-mighty form reduced to ash and molten sap. With one final, terrible wail, the beast collapses, its remains pooling in a foul, purple puddle.)

Jill: (gasping, her voice shaky yet grateful)
Barry! Thou hast saved me!

Barry: (nodding, his voice steady, though tinged with disbelief)
Aye... that was too close for comfort.

Jill: (shaking her head in amazement)
By heaven’s grace, what manner of beast was this?

Barry: (surveying the charred remains, his brow furrowed)
A monster, foul and unnatural. Yet what in this cursed place is not?
I shall linger near the Soldier's Area, seeking aught of import.
Still, Jill, beware—there are secrets yet hidden in yon mansion.
We must tread carefully, and apart, if answers are to be found.

Jill: (with a resolute nod)
Aye. We divide, but for a greater cause unite.

(Barry casts her a final, grave look before departing, his heavy boots echoing as he vanishes into the darkened hall. Jill, still catching her breath, gazes down at the monstrous remains, the stench of its death clinging to the air.
(As the heavy silence of the chamber settles, broken only by the faint hiss of smoldering remains, Jill notices a glimmer amidst the muck and twisted foliage. Wading cautiously through the vile puddle left by the defeated plant, her gaze fixes on an object half-buried in the mire. She kneels and retrieves it, her gloved fingers brushing away the clinging residue.)

Jill: (holding the object aloft, her voice low yet filled with wonder)
What treasure dost thou conceal, o wretched den of thorns?

(In her hand, she beholds an elegant key of burnished orange, its craftsmanship refined and intricate, the head shaped like a lion's visage. Upon its length, the inscription gleams faintly: KEEP MASTER.)

Jill: (with quiet resolve)
A master key, to gates yet barred. The mansion’s secrets shall no longer keep me at bay.

(She tucks the key securely into her pouch, rising to her feet with renewed purpose. Casting one last glance at the charred ruin of the monstrous plant, she murmurs a grim vow.)

Jill: (softly)
Each locked door shall yield, each shadowed truth laid bare.

ACT III, SCENE I: The Return
(As Jill steps warily into the dimly lit keep, her mind weighed with the horrors she has witnessed, a subtle shift in the air makes her pause. The faint echo of swift, deliberate movement reaches her ears, growing louder, nearer. Something stirs in the darkened depths of the estate, its presence a cold whisper that sends a shiver down her spine.)
Jill: (to herself, voice low and wary)
What dark phantom hunts my steps so swiftly?
(Unseen, the beast climbs with unnatural speed, its claws scraping against stone and wood. Through the shadowed halls and forsaken corridors, it stalks her path, relentless, unerring, until at last it enters her sight. The door creaks open, and Jill turns, her heart leaping into her throat.)

(The creature steps into the light: a grotesque mockery of man and beast, scaled in green, its sinewy frame both agile and terrible. Fanged jaws drip crimson ichor, and taloned hands flex with murderous intent. This beast was born to be a hunter—beast of reptilian dread, a nightmare given form. Jill gasps, her composure faltering as it crouches low, preparing to spring.)
Jill: (drawing her crossbow with trembling haste)
What manner of fiend art thou, born of swamp and sin?
Halt thy monstrous stride, else meet thy end by quarrel swift!
(As the Hunter circles Jill, its guttural growls twist into fragmented, mocking echoes, its voice wet and raspy, like air forced through a ruined throat. The sound is both alien and grotesquely human, its words dripping with malice.)

Hunter: (snarling)
"Meat... warm meat... it runs... it bleeds..."

(It pauses, tilting its head unnaturally, its fanged maw curling into a ghastly semblance of a grin.)

Hunter:
"Fight... struggle... yesss... It makes the feast sweeter."

(Jill's grip on her blade tightens, her blood chilling at the unnatural mimicry. The beast crouches low, claws flexing as it hisses.)

Hunter:
"No escape... no hope... You die here."

(With a burst of speed, it lunges again, its vile laughter echoing through the chamber, as Jill steels herself for the brutal confrontation.)
Jill:
Stay yourself, foulness! Stay yourself or die!
(The creature does not heed her words. With a guttural snarl, it lunges, soaring through the air with inhuman grace. Jill drops her sword and aims her crossbow, but it dives to the side, her crossbow loosing bolts that barely graze its hide. She rolls to her feet, but not before its claws rake her leg, tearing flesh and drawing a cry of pain.)

Jill: (clutching her bleeding leg, her breath sharp and pained)
Ah! Vile serpent, thou hast drawn my blood, yet still I stand!
Thy doom shall come, by my hand or by thine own folly!

(The Hunter circles her, its eyes glinting with a cruel intelligence, its muscles coiled for another strike. Jill grits her teeth, the pain in her leg ignored as she picks up her blade)

Come taste my steel; You'll find it a worthy final meal!
Jill: (with defiant fury, raising her blade)
"Come taste my steel; you'll find it a worthy final meal!"

(The Hunter snarls, its eyes narrowing as it circles her, its claws scraping against the stone floor with a sound like nails on slate.)

Hunter: (mockingly rasping)
"Bold words... for fragile flesh..."

(It lunges, claws slashing wildly. Jill sidesteps, her blade flashing in a deadly arc, striking the creature’s arm. It lets out a guttural screech, momentarily recoiling.)

Jill: (pressing her advantage)
"Flesh I may be, but steel makes my spirit unyielding!"

(The Hunter growls, its movements faltering as Jill advances, steel glinting in the dim light, her resolve unshaken despite the blood trickling down her leg.)
Hunter: (snarling through bloodied fangs, its breath ragged but defiant)
"You think me bested? Flesh will fail! Claws shall prevail!"

Jill: (with a grim smirk, her blade raised high)
"Claws may rend, but steel shall end!"

(The Hunter lunges one last time, desperation driving its ferocity, but Jill sidesteps with precision born of sheer determination. In a single, decisive motion, she drives her blade deep into the creature’s chest, piercing its dark heart.)

Hunter: (choking out its final words, a low hiss escaping its throat)
"You... are but prey..."

Jill: (pressing the blade further, her voice resolute)
"Not today."

(The Hunter collapses to the ground, its lifeless body sinking into stillness. Jill leans against the wall for a moment, panting heavily, before yanking her sword free and wiping the dark ichor from the blade.)

Jill: (to herself, steadying her breath)
"Steel may fail... but not while I wield it."
Scene: Healing A Wound
(The scene opens within the dim confines of an apothecary chamber, the air thick with the mingling scents of dried herbs and alchemical brews. Jill sits upon a worn wooden bench, her sword resting at her side, the weight of her recent trials etched upon her face. Rebecca kneels before her, her hands deft and steady as she binds Jill's wounded leg with linens soaked in medicinal salves. A single candle flickers between them, casting wavering shadows upon the stone walls.)

Rebecca: (softly, her voice tinged with distraction)
"Thy wound runs deep, though not beyond repair.
Yet deeper still the darkness clings to thee—
What specters haunt thy gaze, so grim and lost?"

Jill: (winces as the salve bites, but her tone remains steady)
"A hunter's claw, no more. A fleeting pain.
The wound thou see’st is naught but fleshly woe.
'Tis not the bite that troubles me this night,
But shadows black that walk where men once stood."

Rebecca: (pausing, her hands trembling slightly as she ties the bandage)
"These halls hold more than death; they echo grief.
And yet thy courage strides where others falter.
Dost thou not fear the horrors thou hast faced?"

Jill: (her gaze hardens, yet a flicker of vulnerability touches her voice)
"Fear? Aye, I know its whisper in my ear.
But fear alone shall not unmake my path.
For though the night be deep, the dawn must break,
And I will see its light—or die in quest."

Rebecca: (lowering her gaze, her hands busying with vials of tinctures)
"Thy words bear weight, though sorrow’s burden too.
This house, this cursed maze—what end awaits?
I tend thy wounds, yet I, too, bleed in heart.
Each foe we slay but births a deeper foe."

Jill: (softening, placing a hand on Rebecca's shoulder)
"Rebecca, thou hast labored steadfastly,
A light amidst this hellish darkened sprawl.
Let not despair's cruel hand claim thee as prey.
We fight, we fall, but in our stand we live."

(A silence falls between them, heavy yet comforting. Rebecca finishes her work, rising with a faint, weary smile as Jill tests her bandaged leg, nodding in quiet approval.)

Rebecca: (with a small, determined smile)
"If thou canst walk, then I shall stand beside thee.
Together, we may yet see this night undone."

Jill: (gripping her sword and rising with resolve)
"Then let us tread these halls, though death awaits.
For life, for truth, for all we yet hold dear."

(The candle flickers once more, and the two women share a moment of silent determination before Jill strides toward the chamber’s door, her sword gleaming faintly in the wavering light. Rebecca, behind her, uneasy, must tell her the truth)
Rebecca:
While you were away... I saw the serpent again. We did not fell it.
(Jill pauses at the threshold of the door, her hand still upon the handle, the weight of Rebecca’s words hanging heavy in the air. She turns slowly, her expression hardening, yet concern flickers beneath her eyes.)

Jill: (sternly, yet with a note of quiet dread)
"Thou saw’st the serpent? The fiend of shadow,
That cursed beast whose venom stains the earth?
Yet if we struck it not, then what of it now?
Doth it still slink within these walls, unseen?"

Rebecca: (her voice trembling, she steps forward, unable to meet Jill's gaze)
"Aye, Jill... 'tis true. The serpent lives.
We thought it slain, but when thy back was turned,
It rose again, its coils in secret slithering.
We did not fell it; it yet waits beneath,
And worse, its venom seeps within this place—
Its presence lingers still, in every room."

Jill: (her hand tightening upon the hilt of her sword, her voice a quiet, simmering fury)
"Then let it come. Let it show its cursed face.
For I, with steel in hand, will see it end.
A serpent, aye, but mortal men we are,
And through our will, no darkness holds its sway."
Rebecca: (her voice shaking, yet with a sense of urgency that stirs Jill to action)
"Aye, Jill, 'tis true. The serpent, like a shadow’s breath,
Slipped within the grand library, that hollowed space,
Upon the upper west wing. I saw it there,
Its sinuous form, coiling 'mongst the shelves,
Twisting ’round the ancient tomes and scrolls,
A lurking terror that doth haunt the mind."

Jill: (her brow furrows, lips set in grim resolve, her voice low but firm)
"The library? The place where knowledge sleeps,
Where wisdom and deceit alike are bound?
Then there we must go, and seek this serpent out.
If it dwells amidst the words of the past,
We shall see if they speak truth, or bring us doom."

Rebecca: (her voice softer now, laden with hesitation)
"Jill, be wary. I’ve not spoken all I know.
For as I spied the serpent in its lair,
I saw a shadow far more foul than it—
A figure cloaked in darkness, whispering spells,
That serpent is but a tool, a weapon borne
Of some greater mind, some power lurking still."

Jill: (her eyes harden, her grip upon her sword tightening)
"Then the serpent is but a pawn in some darker game.
Yet if such a fiend shall rise, so too shall we,
For I fear not shadows nor whispers born of fear.
The time has come to put this curse to rest.
Lead me to the library, Rebecca,
And let us confront what haunts this wretched place."

Rebecca: (nodding gravely, though a shadow of doubt flickers in her eyes)
"Then come, Jill, and tread with caution,
For what lies ahead may not be what we seek.
But if courage be our guide, perhaps we’ll see
The dawn break forth, and end this night of woe."
Scene: The Serpent Amongst the Tomes

(The great wooden doors of the library creak open, and Jill and Rebecca step into the dimly lit chamber, the air thick with the smell of old paper and musty parchment. Shelves upon shelves of ancient tomes stretch high above them, their pages yellowed with age. The faint flicker of torchlight dances upon the walls, casting long shadows that make the space feel alive with the past. As they move deeper into the room, their steps cautious, they see it—the serpent, coiled upon the cold stone floor, its immense form stretched across the central aisle of the library, sleeping, seemingly oblivious to their presence.)

Jill: (whispering softly, her voice barely a breath)
"The fiend lies dormant, Rebecca, as we hoped.
But should we strike, or wait for it to rise,
And face us in its venomous wrath anew?"

Rebecca: (her voice filled with caution, her gaze never leaving the serpent)
"Jill, be wary. This creature was no simple beast.
Its eyes held wisdom, strange and ancient—
A weapon forged, not by nature's hand,
But by something darker, something crueler still.
We must tread lightly, lest it stir and strike."

Jill: (her eyes narrowing, her hand resting on the hilt of her sword, ready but controlled)
"Then let us strike swiftly, and end this terror.
I will not let this cursed thing awake
To wreak havoc on this house, nor on us.
A quiet death, I say, and make it swift."

(Jill begins to creep forward, her movements as silent as the shadows, each step measured and deliberate. The serpent lies still, its massive coils glistening in the torchlight, its scales like polished stone. Jill approaches cautiously, eyes locked on the creature, her breath steady. Rebecca lingers behind her, her face pale with fear yet resolved.)

Rebecca: (in a soft, fearful whisper)
"Do you feel it, Jill? The air... it shifts.
I sense something more within this place.
There is power here, beyond this serpent’s flesh.
It is no mere beast we face; it is a harbinger,
A messenger of something ancient, far older."

Jill: (pausing for a moment, her senses heightened, feeling the weight of Rebecca’s words)
"Then we will slay the serpent, and what follows will face us in turn.
For I do not fear what walks in shadows.
I fear only that which is hidden from our sight."

(They both freeze as a low hiss emanates from the serpent. Its head shifts slightly, and for a moment, its glowing yellow eyes flash open, sharp and calculating. But it does not move, seeming to regard them in a silent standoff.)

Jill: (a determined whisper)
"It knows we are here. But it waits, like a lion in the grass.
We must strike now, or be consumed by its cunning."

Rebecca: (almost pleading, her voice trembling)
"Jill... this serpent is not of this world.
Something twisted gave it life—do not think it as simple as a beast."

(The serpent shifts once more, its large head lifting slightly, and it seems to taste the air, as though sensing their presence more acutely. The tension in the room grows thick as they wait.)

Jill: (softly, yet with fierce resolve)
"Then let us meet it, Rebecca. Face it with steel and fire.
The serpent may slither in darkness, but it shall not rule this place."

(Jill steps forward once more, drawing her sword with a swift motion. The serpent hisses, its body uncoiling, the massive creature now fully alert and preparing to strike. With a sharp cry, Jill lunges forward, ready to end the creature's reign in this forsaken library.)

Scene: The Serpent’s End

(The battle begins in a violent flurry. The serpent, sensing Jill’s movement, rears its massive head, hissing with an eerie, chilling sound. Its scales gleam as it strikes with lightning speed, its fangs bared, dripping venom. Jill deftly rolls aside, narrowly evading the strike, but her leg grazes the creature’s razor-sharp teeth, leaving a bloody trail behind her. The serpent twists and snaps, its massive coils slamming against the stone floor with a deafening thud.)

Jill: (gritting her teeth, voice strained with effort as she watches the serpent coil and strike)
"Thou art swift, foul creature, yet not swift enough!
Let this bloodshed end, and let thy venom cease!"

(She ducks again as the serpent strikes at her, its enormous body crashing into the shelves, knocking tomes and scrolls to the floor in a cacophony of noise. The air fills with the smell of old paper and the acrid scent of the serpent’s venom. Rebecca, trembling but resolute, stands by, clutching several vials of her concoctions—potent medicines and poisons—each more powerful than the last.)

Rebecca: (with urgency, calling out to Jill as she prepares her potions)
"Take these, Jill! They will weaken the beast!
A draught of venom’s bane, and another of fire’s breath.
Together, they may quell its rage!"

(Jill nods grimly, grabbing the vials from Rebecca as the serpent hisses, its tail snapping like a whip, knocking a nearby column to the ground. Jill moves quickly, uncorking the first vial and gulping down the bitter, burning liquid. Her muscles tense with the heat, but her resolve hardens. She then grabs another vial, the liquid inside dark and thick with power.)

Jill: (to herself, under her breath as she steels herself for the next move)
"Let the serpent taste this bitter medicine,
Let it feel the wrath of a thousand poisons."

(The serpent lunges again, its enormous maw gaping wide, but Jill is quicker now. She leaps onto the creature’s head, her legs gripping its slippery scales, her hands desperate to force the concoctions down its throat. The serpent thrashes violently, throwing her from side to side, its venomous fangs snapping inches from her face. Jill struggles to maintain her grip, the serpent’s strength immense, but she presses on, her fingers wrapping around the serpent’s jaw, forcing its mouth open.)

Jill: (shouting over the roar of the serpent’s fury, as she pours the concoctions into its maw)
"Swallow, creature! Drink deep, and let thy doom come swift!
Feel the fire and the poison, both meet within thy soul!"

(The serpent writhes, a horrid screech escaping its throat as the concoctions take hold. The air around it seems to burn with the intensity of the poison, the serpent’s movements slow and erratic. It thrashes, its coils flailing about the room, knocking over shelves and sending books flying through the air. But Jill does not relent, maintaining her hold on the beast’s head as its struggle grows weaker.)

Rebecca: (rushing forward, her voice trembling but filled with awe as she watches Jill wrestle with the beast)
"By the gods, Jill! Thou art more relentless than any hunter!
The venom... it's taking hold. Its strength fades!"

(The serpent’s movements become sluggish, its once-dangerous strikes now weak and uncoordinated. Jill, using every ounce of her strength, drives the last vial into the creature’s throat, forcing it open until it swallows the final draught.)

Jill: (panting, her voice full of fierce satisfaction as the serpent begins to collapse, its body convulsing one last time before it crumples to the ground in defeat)
"Rest now, fiend. Thy reign of terror ends this night.
The poison that coursed through thee is but a taste of thine own doom."

(The serpent’s eyes flash once more, a final, pitiful hiss escaping its mouth before it goes still, its enormous form finally succumbing to the poison. Jill, bloodied but victorious, slowly dismounts from its head, her body trembling from the effort, but her resolve unbroken. She looks over at Rebecca, who breathes a sigh of relief.)

Jill: (weakly, but with a fierce smile)
"It is done, Rebecca. The serpent is no more."

Rebecca: (approaching cautiously, her voice trembling with relief and admiration)
"Thou hast done it, Jill... Truly, thou art the fiercest warrior I’ve ever known."

Jill: (with a bitter laugh, wiping the sweat and blood from her brow)
"Fierce, aye, but weary. Come, let us leave this cursed place.
The serpent’s blood stains these stones no more,
But I fear there is more yet to be done."
Scene: Beyond the Waterfall
(Jill and Rebecca, their bodies weary from battle, turn to leave the grand library. Yet, even in their triumph, a lingering sense of mystery hangs thick in the air. Jill, bloodied and tired, begins to move toward the door, but Rebecca, her eyes sharp and curious, halts, her gaze fixed upon the scattered books and overturned tomes. She stoops low, fingers brushing the pages and the dust, until—lo, what is this?)

Rebecca: (exclaiming with wonder, holding two gleaming medals in her hands)
"Jill, hark! What strange treasures I have found! Come, see this marvel!"

(Jill, despite her weariness, turns with a furrowed brow, approaching her companion. Rebecca holds forth two medals—one silver, the other gold. The silver bears a fierce wolf, its eyes wild with the ferocity of the hunt. The gold depicts an eagle, soaring high, its wings unfurled as if to conquer the heavens. She places them into Jill's hands, who regards them with a thoughtful gaze.)

Jill: (murmuring as her fingers caress the intricate designs)
"These symbols—of beasts both proud and fierce! A wolf, a beast of the wild, untamed, and an eagle, noble and free. But look! Upon the backs of these pieces, what strange words are carved?"

(Jill turns over the medals, her sharp eyes catching the faint inscription upon each—‘The Falls’. She speaks softly, almost as though speaking to herself.)

Jill: (with a furrowed brow)
"The Falls? What mystery lies behind these words? A place, perchance, of power, of secrets held within the earth’s deep embrace?"

Rebecca: (confounded, stepping closer, her voice trembling with curiosity)
"The Falls? I know not of such a place. What could it mean?"

(Jill’s expression shifts, a sudden recognition alights her mind. She stands straighter, as if struck by a sudden revelation. Her hand tightens around the medals, and her eyes flash with newfound understanding.)

Jill: (with a growing intensity)
"Aye, Rebecca. I know of this ‘Falls.’ On my journey toward the soldiers’ house, there stood a waterfall—hidden, like a secret unto itself. It was there, that I glimpsed a passage concealed behind its flowing veil. At the time, I thought naught of it, but now—" (her voice hardens with resolve) "—I know this is the key."

Rebecca: (eyes wide with dawning realization)
"A secret passage, thou say’st? Hidden behind a waterfall, a place of mystery long unseen? What devilry lies beyond, Jill? What dark truths yet await our discovery?"

Jill: (with steady resolve, attaching the medals to her belt)
"The serpent may be slain, yet many mysteries remain, Rebecca. This passage—these medals—they are our guide. We must venture there, to the Falls, where secrets buried long ago may yet be uncovered. And there, I believe, we shall find our next answer."
Rebecca, though still unsure of the dangers they face, nods in quiet agreement. Together, they turn toward the door, their hearts set on the next trial to face—beyond the waterfall, into the darkness that awaits them.)

Jill: (her voice steady, but a spark of urgency in her tone)
"Let us waste no more time, for I feel the pull of fate drawing us to this hidden place. We must move swiftly—before the shadows grow stronger still."

(And thus, with no more words spoken, Jill and Rebecca leave the library behind them.

Scene: The Waterfall’s Secret

(Jill and Rebecca make their way through the back of the mansion, their breath heavy, their limbs weary. As they near the courtyard, a sudden groan echoes through the mist, followed by the slow shuffle of dragging feet. Two figures rise from the shadows—decayed and monstrous, the reanimated dead, with eyes vacant yet fierce. The zombies lurch toward them, their jaws snapping and hands reaching in hunger.)

Jill: (drawing her weapon, her voice firm as she faces the oncoming threat)
"Foul creatures! You dare stand in our path?"

Rebecca: (her voice tense with urgency, gripping a makeshift weapon)
"We've no time for this, Jill. They must be felled!"

(Jill charges forward with swift precision, her blade cutting through the air as it strikes one of the zombies, severing its arm. The creature stumbles, but it continues its mindless lurch toward her. Rebecca steps in, thrusting her weapon into its chest, putting it down with a quick, practiced motion. The second zombie lunges at Jill with a low growl, but she sidesteps, and with a fierce strike, cleaves its head from its shoulders. Both beasts fall, their undead life finally snuffed out.)

Jill: (wiping her blade clean, her voice laced with resolve)
"Done. Now, let us move swiftly, before more of these fiends emerge."

Rebecca: (catching her breath, a slight shiver in her voice)
"Foul creatures, indeed. But this place... it grows darker by the minute."

Jill: (nodding grimly as she turns toward the waterfall)
"All the more reason to press on. There’s no turning back now."

(The two women, unshaken by the brief fight, continue forward. As they approach the base of the roaring waterfall, their eyes are drawn to a pedestal standing near the cascade of water. It holds two indentations, perfectly sized for the medals they carry. The roar of the water drowns out all other sound as Jill steps forward, placing the silver and gold medals into their rightful places; at once, the falling water clams and dissipates, no longer blocking the path into the tunnel that awaits)
Rebecca: (with a mixture of awe and caution)
"What strange magic is this?
Jill:
"Stay steady, Rebecca. There is naught to fear.
Jill: (with a sly grin, speaking in a tone of quiet triumph)
"Behold, Rebecca! We have unlocked the way—hidden in plain sight, now unveiled. The waters no longer bar our path, but guide us to what lies beyond. Come, let us venture forth."
Rebecca: (with a sense of awe and wonder, yet a lingering caution in her voice)
"Indeed, Jill. But what strange fate drives us ever onward? To our people, we owe all.
Scene: The Dark Caves
(Jill and Rebecca venture forth through the dark and winding tunnels, their footsteps echoing against the damp stone walls. The atmosphere is thick with the scent of decay, a quiet, oppressive stillness hanging in the air. Strange green lanterns line the corridors, casting an eerie, unnatural glow that dances like specters along the walls. The only sound is the faint drip of water somewhere in the depths.)

Jill: (with a steady voice, though her gaze flickers nervously from shadow to shadow)
"These caverns be foul, Rebecca. The very air weighs heavy with dread. What strange place have we stumbled into?"

Rebecca: (her voice tinged with caution as she peers down the tunnel, her senses alert)
"Indeed, Jill. This place is like no other I’ve known. The light... it flickers not like flame, but as if some dark force watches us. I do not like it."

(They continue along the narrow path, Jill leading the way. But as she steps forward, her foot lands upon a hidden plate, which sinks with a soft click beneath her weight. Suddenly, the ground trembles beneath them.)

Jill: (eyes widening in sudden alarm as she feels the floor shift beneath her feet, her voice rising in realization)
"By the heavens! We have triggered some fiendish trap!"

(Ahead, the distant rumble of stone against stone grows louder, and a great boulder, massive and merciless, begins to roll from the shadows, its ominous shadow growing ever nearer. The tunnel shakes as it begins its descent toward them.)

Jill: (with a quick gasp, turning to Rebecca, her voice desperate)
"Run, Rebecca! Run! The very earth conspires against us!"

Rebecca: (her heart racing, eyes wide with terror, she stumbles back toward the corridor’s mouth, breathless)
"God’s mercy, Jill, 'tis no mere trick, but death itself rolling toward us!"

(The boulder rolls relentlessly, its rumbling shake like the growl of some great beast awakened. Jill, with a sudden burst of strength, grabs Rebecca’s arm, dragging her swiftly toward the narrow exit ahead. The stone monster clatters behind them, a harbinger of doom. The two women leap toward the safety of the corridor just in time, the boulder grazing the edge of their heels as it thunders past, crashing into the far wall with a deafening boom.)

Jill: (panting, her hand pressed against her chest, she glances back at the destroyed path, her voice tight )
"Close—far too close! We have barely escaped the jaws of death, but death does not tire so easily."

Rebecca: (her voice shaken, as she clutches Jill's arm)
"By all that is holy, Jill! That beast—'twas but stone, yet it nearly took us both. We must tread with utmost caution in this cursed place. Who builds such traps but a fiend who wishes death upon those who dare enter?"

Jill: (breathing deeply to steady herself, her eyes narrowing in resolve)
"Who, indeed? But know this, Rebecca: We will not be undone by rocks or serpents or stone. We press on, and whatever horrors lie ahead, we shall face them together."

Rebecca: (nodding grimly, she turns to follow Jill once more) )
"Together, Jill. Whatever awaits us, we shall not falter."

Scene: The Wounded Captain

(Jill and Rebecca, ever cautious , wander through a narrow door and into a tight, dimly lit corridor. Their breath echoes as they move forward, only to halt upon finding a figure against the wall—a man, slumped and bleeding, the faint glow of lantern light casting eerie shadows upon his form. It is Enrico Marini, the captain of the Bravo squad of the Knights. The air is thick with the smell of blood, and their hearts clench in both dread and concern. As they approach, his eyes suddenly flutter open.)

Enrico: (his voice weak but strained, raising his crossbow with trembling hands, the weapon aimed toward them)
"Is that Jill? And Rebecca, young flower? Speak, if thou art true."

Jill: (her heart lurches with recognition, her voice filled with both shock and relief)
"Enrico... By heaven's mercy, tis you!"

Enrico: (nodding slightly, his breath shallow, his gaze unwavering as he locks eyes with them)
"Yea, it is I, the captain of the Bravo squad, once proud. Yet I be but a shadow now."

Jill: (with a gasp, stepping forward, eager to close the distance but wary of his weapon)
"You're alive! I thought thee lost to the cruel fate of these forsaken halls!"

Enrico: (raising a hand, weak but commanding, his eyes burning with urgency)
"Stay thy steps, Jill. I pray thee, stay! Tell me—are ye both alone? Is there no other to bear witness to our suffering?"

Jill: (cautious but determined)
"‘Tis only us, Enrico. Rebecca and I, nothing more. We are bound in this cursed place together, for better or worse."

Rebecca: (her voice quivers with sorrow, her hand reaching toward him, eyes filled with grief as she gazes upon his wounds)
"Oh Enrico! Oh, my captain! What foulness hath befallen thee? Thy blood stains the earth, and thy body cries for solace!"

Enrico: (his breath ragged, a bitter laugh escaping his lips despite the pain, his eyes sharp with anger and betrayal)
"The Knights of the Radiant Star... doomed, Rebecca. Betrayed by one within our very ranks. 'Twas Red Parasol, a fiend in our midst, who hath plotted this ruin from the start. Our fates were sealed ere we set foot in this cursed land."
Jill: (her brow furrows, confusion clouding her face as she speaks with uncertainty)
"Red Parasol!? The very name doth ring in my mind. Is it not the company of healing, of medicine? Their potions, their remedies—are they not meant to aid the sick and suffering? How could they be the source of such treachery?"

Enrico: (his voice weak, his head tilting slightly as he attempts to focus, his gaze filled with regret and foreboding)
"Ah, Jill... I wish I could tell thee more, but the truth is a bitter one. Red Parasol... at first, their ways seemed of noble intent, bringing hope to the afflicted with their groundbreaking cures. But, oh, there is rot beneath the surface, a darkness that I could not see until it was too late. Their medicines... they promise much, but there is a cost, one that none of us truly understood. A price far steeper than any gold."
Rebecca: (her voice trembling, a mixture of worry and confusion growing within her)
"But... their medicines! The people rely on them, Jill. I've seen firsthand the miraculous changes they bring. The sick cured, the crippled made whole. How could such a thing—such a company—be linked to this treason?"
Enrico: (with a pained sigh, he closes his eyes for a moment, his voice now soft but laden with sorrow)
"Yes, the cures... but remember, not all that glitters is gold. They speak of healing, yet they hold back the true nature of their craft. In secret, the knights and others have fallen to strange ailments, one that no regular healer can diagnose. I fear... I fear it is not a matter of medicine, but of manipulation... And the serpent who spread such venom, he-"

(A sudden, sharp sound breaks his words—a crossbow bolt is released with a swift, cruel hiss. The air thickens with dread. The bolt strikes Enrico squarely in the forehead, and blood sprays from the wound. His body jerks violently before crumpling to the floor, lifeless, his weapon falling to the side with a dull thud.)

Jill: (her voice strangled with horror, she drops to her knees beside his body, her hands trembling as she touches his still form, her words a desperate plea)
"Enrico! No! It cannot be! Who hath done this cruel act? What vile hand hath struck thee down in cold blood? Tell me, dear captain, that this be but a nightmare, a cruel jest of fate!"

(She shakes him gently, but his body gives no response. His life has already fled, leaving only silence in its wake. A distant sound, the thundering of boots, echoes through the hall, quick and heavy, as though someone flees the scene of this heinous deed.)

Rebecca: (her voice trembling with fear and sorrow, she steps back, eyes darting toward the door, realizing the assailant is still nearby)
"Jill! We are not alone! The one who hath done this… they run still! Do not let them escape!"

Jill: (rising to her feet, her hand instinctively reaching for her weapon, her voice low but filled with a quiet rage)
"Then we shall give chase! This murderer shall not go unpunished. Come, Rebecca! We must not let this wretch slip away!"
Rebecca: (her hand pressed to her mouth, eyes wide with disbelief, tears welling as the reality of their loss crashes down upon her)
I will avenge him! (she bends down and picks up Enrico's crossbow and the few bolts he had left on his person)

Jill:
"By all the gods, we shall make them pay, Rebecca. Red Parasol shall not go unpunished. We will uncover the traitor, and this foulness shall be undone."

Scene: The Secret Laboratories

(Jill and Rebecca hasten through the narrow, winding passage, their footsteps echoing in the dark, damp tunnels. Ahead of them, the cloaked figure they chase moves with unnatural speed, vanishing behind a door with a forceful slam. The two women arrive, breathless, at the door, and with no time to spare, they throw it wide open. But instead of the assassin, they are met with something far worse.)

Jill: (gritting her teeth, her voice sharp with fury)
"Hark! What treachery lies before us now? A beast? 'Tis no man! What devil's work hath summoned this horror?"

(Before them stands a monstrous creature, bipedal and clad in scales, its eyes gleaming with ferocity. It is a Hunter, a foul, reptilian nightmare, its massive claws flexing, dripping with blood. Its hissing breath fills the air as it steps forward, blocking their way.)

Rebecca: (her voice trembling but determined, she draws her weapon)
"This fiend doth stand between us and the truth! We must not falter, Jill! We must defeat it!"

Jill: (her hand gripping her sword with resolve, her voice low and filled with cold fury)
"Let it come! It shall taste steel this day! No beast, no matter how foul, shall stay my course!"

(The creature snarls, its talons gleaming like daggers in the dim light. With a fierce roar, it lunges at them, its claws slicing the air.)

Jill: (swiftly dodging the creature’s first strike, she counters with a swift slash of her blade)
"Enough of your devilry!"

(Rebecca, though trembling, follows suit, firing a bolt from her crossbow with precision, striking the creature in its thick hide, but it seems to barely notice.)

Rebecca: (with desperation in her voice, as she loads another bolt)
"Thine hide be strong, but not invincible! Strike true, Jill, strike true!"

Jill: (with a mighty cry, her blade flashing through the air as she engages the beast in fierce combat)
"By my sword, thy reign of terror ends here! No more shall thy kind walk these halls!"

(The Hunter roars in fury, slashing viciously with its claws, but Jill dances around its strikes, landing blow after blow upon its body. The battle is fierce, but Jill's will is stronger.)

Jill: (with one final, decisive strike, she plunges her sword deep into the creature's heart, causing it to let out a final, strangled hiss before collapsing to the ground, twitching)
"Thy cursed reign ends now, wretched creature!"

Rebecca: (breathing heavily, she approaches Jill, her gaze flickering to the collapsed Hunter, then to the door beyond)
"Well struck, Jill. But still… the assassin waits. We cannot let him flee again."

Jill: (wiping her blade clean, her expression hardening with determination)
"No more games, Rebecca. The path forward is clear. Let us end this chase. We shall face him now."

(Together, they press forward, past the fallen Hunter and through the door, intent on bringing the assassin to justice.)
With a final, guttural cough, the Hunter lifts its head one last time, blood spilling from its mouth. Though its body is broken, the beast mutters with a defiant rasp, its voice barely a whisper in the air.)

Hunter: (through a bloody cough, his voice low and hoarse)
"DIE...MEAT....DIE...BELOW..."

(But Jill and Rebecca, focused and resolute, do not pause. They do not hear the warning, nor do they turn back. With grim determination, they push forward through the door, leaving the Hunter’s final words to echo in the empty chamber.)

Jill: (her voice unwavering, as she motions for Rebecca to follow)
"Come, Rebecca. We waste no time. The path ahead is ours to take."
(Jill and Rebecca step into the vast chamber, their eyes widening at the grotesque sight that unfolds before them. The walls, lined with ancient stone, are heavy with the stench of potions and poisons, thick vapors swirling through the air. Alchemical apparatus of all kinds—mortars, pestles, flasks, and vials—are scattered about. Strange, twisted drawings of beasts line the walls, their forms contorted in agony. Upon the floor, among the discarded parchments and torn books, lay the unmoving corpses of long-dead men and women, their once-living flesh now rotted away by time. The air is heavy with the weight of dark, forbidden knowledge.)

Jill: (her voice a low whisper, reverence and revulsion both in her tone)
"What foulness is this? A chamber wrought from nightmares, where death and madness are intertwined. Behold the work of hands long turned to dust—yet their sins linger still, in this dreadful place."

Rebecca: (stepping forward, her hand trembling as she touches one of the ancient tomes, her eyes wide with dread)
"These creatures… these twisted forms, they are but shadows of what once walked the earth. Their twisted limbs, their unnatural faces—they were no mere beasts! Someone sought to make them. Someone with dark purpose…"

Jill: (turning to Rebecca, her face hardening as she scans the room, her hand gripping her weapon tightly)
"Then let us uncover the truth, Rebecca. The alchemist who dwelled here, the one who twisted life and death to his will—his madness shall not go unpunished. We shall find the serpent of this place, and with steel and fire, end its venomous reign."

(They walk deeper into the chamber, the flickering light from their torches casting long shadows on the walls. The corpses, though still, seem to whisper in the still air, their final, tortured moments captured in time.)

Rebecca: (her voice quiet but filled with growing dread)
"This place… it reeks of foul alchemy. What could they have hoped to achieve with such madness?"

Jill: (her eyes narrowing, her resolve unbroken)
"Power, Rebecca. And immortality. But at what cost? These creatures, these horrors—they were the price they paid for their hubris. Come... Wait! What is this!?
Their eyes are drawn to the back wall, where a grand tapestry hangs, its colors faded by the passing years, but still striking in its eerie presence.)

Jill: (pausing, her hand instinctively reaching for the hilt of her sword, a sense of unease creeping over her)
"Rebecca... what is this?"

(She steps closer, her gaze fixed on the tapestry, drawn to it by some unseen force. The intricately woven scene depicts many men garbed in white robes, their faces proud and noble, their eyes alight with the fire of discovery. The words “Greatest Minds” are stitched in bold Latin above them, but it is one figure among them that makes Jill's breath catch in her throat.)

Jill: (her voice barely a whisper, disbelief lacing her words as her eyes lock on the man at the center of the tapestry)
"By Heaven’s eye… it cannot be…"

(Rebecca moves to Jill’s side, following her gaze. Her expression shifts from confusion to growing horror as she sees the likeness Jill has found. A man, standing among these great minds, his features unmistakable: Wesker, their ally, their guide in this madness, immortalized in thread as part of a twisted pantheon.)

Jill: (stepping closer, her hand trembling as it brushes against the tapestry, as if she can will the image away)
"Why? Why is he here, among these men? What is his true purpose in all this?"

(Her mind races, the pieces of the puzzle slipping into place, but still, her heart refuses to accept the truth she’s beginning to see.)

Rebecca: (her voice trembling, unease flooding her veins as she takes in the image of Wesker)
"This… this cannot be right. Jill, could it be a mistake? A coincidence? A portrait of some other man who merely looks like him?"

Jill: (shaking her head, a hard edge to her voice as she stares at the tapestry, her mind spinning with suspicion)
"Nay, Rebecca. This is no coincidence. The face is his—mark it well. We’ve seen it in the halls, in his eyes... in his actions. But here, woven into this web of deceit, is a man we thought we knew."

(Jill’s fists clench, the weight of betrayal settling over her like a dark cloud. )

Jill:
"No more lies. No more shadows. If Wesker’s hand is in this, then the time to confront him has come."

Rebecca: (quietly, her resolve hardening)
"Then let us face him, Jill. Whatever he’s done, whatever he’s planning, it ends now."

Scene: The Alchemist’s Sanctum

(The silver door creaks open, revealing a vast and grotesque chamber, where shadows creep like the hands of the dead. The stone walls are adorned with rusted instruments of pain, and the very air is thick with the stench of blood and oil. At the heart of the room, a towering Iron Maiden stands—its sharp, cold frame gleaming, like a monstrous sentinel waiting to claim its next soul. The foul truth of this place hangs heavy in the air.)

(As Jill and Rebecca step further into the chamber, their eyes fall upon a figure before the Iron Maiden—Wesker, no longer cloaked, but revealed in his full, monstrous form. His expression is cold, emotionless, and his eyes gleam with a dark purpose. He turns to face them, a calculating smile twisting his lips.)

Jill: (her breath catching in her throat, eyes wide with disbelief)
"Wesker! It cannot be—how? How art thou here?"

Wesker: (his voice low, smooth, and filled with cruel amusement)
"Ah, Jill, Rebecca—how quaint that you’ve come to witness this. I wondered when you'd finally understand the depths of your fate."

(He steps forward, his cold gaze never leaving them, and gestures with a wave of his hand to the cauldron on the far side of the room, where Chris lies chained. His body is gaunt, weak, and strange tubes have been thrust into his veins, feeding the horrible cauldron of bubbling, blue oil beside him.)

Jill: (eyes narrowing with a mix of horror and rage, her voice trembling)
"What hast thou done to him, Wesker? What foul sorcery binds him thus?"

(The tension in the chamber is thick, and Jill stands poised before Wesker, her heart pounding with a bitter mixture of fury and dread. Behind her, she hears the heavy, ominous tread of footsteps, and a gasp from Rebecca. Jill turns swiftly, only to find the familiar figure of Barry standing behind Rebecca, his crossbow aimed at the back of her head. His eyes, though, betray him—sad, broken, and full of regret.)

Wesker: (with a cruel smile curling his lips)
"Ah, Jill, thou hast the sharpest eye. Thou hast indeed guessed true, Barry hath played his part well."

Jill: (her voice trembling with both fury and sorrow, her eyes scanning the room, her hands clenched into fists)
"Just as I thought... Betrayed by the very ones I trusted."

Wesker: (his tone cold, mocking)
"I think thou shouldst keep thy distance from Barry, Jill. Thou see, I hear whispers—whispers of how his dear wife and daughters will fall victim to peril, should he not follow my every command."

Jill: (her voice breaking with sorrow and contempt)
"Thou art a devil, Wesker! A cruel fiend to manipulate a man thus."

Wesker: (his voice dripping with mockery and coldness)
"Well, worry not, Jill, for soon thou’lt be free from this cruel world. Soon, death shall be thy only release."

Jill: (her voice laced with anger and confusion, stepping forward defiantly)
"Why, Wesker? Why destroy the Knights of the Radiant Star? What foul purpose doth drive thee?"

Wesker: (his voice growing darker, his eyes gleaming with a twisted satisfaction)
"'Twas Red Parasol’s bidding, Jill. This laboratory, these wicked experiments, hath been engaged in dark alchemy for far too long. An accident—aye, a horrible accident—hath occurred. Such disaster, it must not be known to the public. Hence, the Knights' meddling hath proven most inconvenient."

Jill: (her voice rising with realization and scorn)
"Ah, so that is it! Red Parasol and their dark deeds. No wonder the Knights had to be silenced! But thou art not just their puppet, art thou? No, you’ve made a pact with darker forces—thou art a slave to them, just as these monsters are."

Wesker: (his eyes flashing with disdain, stepping closer, his voice low and filled with venom)
"Misunderstood, Jill. I care naught for the monsters thou speak’st of. They are but pawns in a much grander game. The time for them, and for this laboratory, hath come to an end. I shall burn it all—erase it from existence, and a new world might be born from the ashes." (He turns to Barry and speaks in a commanding tone)
"Barry, go back to the keep. Wait there. Take Rebecca with thee."

(Barry, with a heavy heart, begins to walk away, his eyes downcast. He pulls Rebecca along, his crossbow still ready to strike if she resists. Jill calls after him, her voice desperate and pained.)

Jill:
"Barry! Do not abandon us—thy soul is not yet lost."

(Barry’s head hangs low, filled with shame, but he continues walking off)

Wesker: (with a bitter laugh, his tone cruel and dismissive)
"Foolish Barry. A man condemned, forever under Red Parosol's control. There's no escaping it now."

Jill: (her voice strained with both disbelief and sorrow)
"How can both Red Parosol and thyself hold power over him? How canst thou control him with such cruel threats?"

Wesker: (with a cold smirk, his voice dripping with dark amusement)
"Red Parosol ? Oh, Jill, it was never them. ’Twas I who manipulated him—used him for mine own ends. A fool, but one I made use of nonetheless."

Jill: (her eyes narrowing, suspicion growing, her voice sharp and filled with dread)
Thou hast thy own plans—dark and twisted. What doth thou intend?"

Wesker: (his smile widening, a dark gleam in his eyes, as he steps toward her, his voice quiet, but filled with a chilling promise)
"Think, Jill. What wouldst thou do if thou hadst the most powerful living weapon in the world? What wouldst thou do if thou couldst hold all life in thy hands, to shape or destroy as thou seeth fit?"

Jill: (her voice full of horror, realizing the scope of Wesker’s ambition)
"Thou must stop this madness, Wesker! This power, this weapon—‘tis not for man to control! It will destroy us all!"

Wesker: (laughing darkly, his voice filled with arrogance and disdain)
"Ah, Jill, thou art so brave—but still so foolish. If I were thee, I would not throw away such discovery. Thou and thy allies, all of you—idiots. None understand the true value of what I’ve uncovered."

Jill: (her voice rising with fury and determination, her hand gripping her weapon tightly)
"Thou art blind, Wesker! Thou cannot see that this power is beyond thee. It will consume thee, as it will consume the world!"

Wesker: (his voice growing darker, a sadistic thrill in his tone as he motions to the monstrous Iron Maiden behind him)
"Thou art wrong, Jill. This is not the end. This—" (he gestures to the terrible, looming silver machine) "—is the beginning. I shall show thee what true power is. The Tyrant, it hungers for life. And with my formula, I shall bring it back to full strength. A human host, like Chris, will serve to awaken its might. Blood, science, and power—this is the future!"

Scene: The Awakening of the Tyrant

(Jill, her heart filled with fury and desperation, charges toward Wesker, her sword raised high, a cry of defiance escaping her lips. She moves with speed, but Wesker, ever the master of combat, draws his own blade with terrifying precision. Before Jill can strike, Wesker parries her blow effortlessly, and with a swift motion, he disarms her. The sound of her sword clattering to the floor echoes through the chamber. Wesker, with a cruel smirk, kicks Jill hard onto her back, the air knocked from her lungs. He stands tall over her, his sword held high, its edge glinting in the dim light of the chamber. With his free hand, he turns the lever beside the massive Iron Maiden.)

Wesker: (his voice cold, as his eyes glint with dark anticipation)
"Thou art too late, Jill. This is no longer thy world to save. The future is nigh, and I shall show thee true power. The Tyrant awakens now—its hunger shall know no bounds. It shall devour all that lives, and in its wake, a new age will arise!"
(With a low, grinding noise, the colossal doors of the Iron Maiden begin to open, the sound like the groaning of an ancient beast awakening from its slumber. A terrible, grotesque form stirs within, its massive frame shifting as the doors finally swing wide. A beast, monstrous in size, stands at an intimidating eight feet, seven inches tall. Its skin is a dull, ashen grey, crisscrossed with veins that pulse with a sickly red hue. Its eyes remain shut, though its monstrous form seems to breathe with life. A grotesque heart, unnaturally large, beats outside its chest cavity, thumping like a drum, filling the chamber with a horrifying rhythm. Its arms are long and muscular, but its right hand is a clawed, rending weapon—horrible and deadly.)
(The Tyrant stirs, its massive body twitching as if it has just awoken from a long slumber. Its enormous chest heaves with each breath, and with a low, guttural growl, its eyes begin to flutter open, glowing with a terrifying hunger.)

Jill: (her voice ragged, her eyes filled with both disbelief and terror, struggling to rise to her feet as Wesker stands unfazed above her)
"No... no, this cannot be! What foul creation is this?"

Wesker: (with a cruel smile, watching the monster come to life)
"This, Jill, is the future of mankind—a weapon born of blood, science, and pure, unadulterated power. The Tyrant, and his masters, shall reign supreme. And thou, dear Jill, shalt be swept away by the storm that follows."
(The Tyrant takes a slow, deliberate step forward, its clawed hand reaching out as if sensing the world anew. Its eyes lock onto Chris, still chained and helpless, tubes feeding into his veins. The monster's heart beats with increasing speed, and it salivates, shaking the very ground beneath them.)
Wesker: (his voice filled with mad delight as he stretches his arms wide, his face alight with the twisted joy of his creation)
"Oh, 'tis glorious, so glorious! Thou art the pinnacle of my grand design, my perfect creature! Behold, the future is at hand!"

(As Wesker basks in the triumph of his work, the Tyrant, once bound to its purpose, gazes at him, its monstrous eyes narrowing. The beast takes a slow, deliberate step toward Wesker, and then, with a sudden and terrifying swiftness, the Tyrant lashes out. Its massive claw extends, skewering Wesker through the chest in one swift motion.)

Wesker: (his voice choked with agony, his body jerking as the Tyrant’s claw pierces him)
"What is this?! Aaghh—!" (he lets out a strangled cry as the Tyrant lifts him off the ground, his face contorted in shock and pain.)
"Aaggh!!!"

(With a cruel flick of its wrist, the Tyrant hurls Wesker’s limp body to the floor, like a discarded doll. A crimson Master Key, once concealed within Wesker’s robes, falls from his pocket and clinks across the cold stone floor. The Tyrant, now freed from its master's influence, slowly turns away from Wesker's lifeless form. Its gaze locks onto Jill, the woman who has dared to challenge its creator.)

Jill: (her heart racing with a mix of horror and resolve, her voice trembling but filled with defiance as she watches Wesker's corpse fall to the ground)
"It cannot control what it does... It is not bound by his will, only by its hunger!"

(The Tyrant, sensing the movement of its new adversary, advances slowly, its massive claws digging into the ground as it moves toward Jill. )
(The battle begins, Jill faces the Tyrant. The room is torn asunder, tables flying, crashing near the still-unconscious Chris, who lies helpless and unmoving still. Chemical vials shatter midair, their contents splashing into the chaos. The Tyrant’s claws swipe mercilessly through the air, narrowly missing Jill’s head as she parries with her sword.)

Jill: (gritting her teeth, her voice fierce)
" Aaaghh!! Thou twisted beast of science, thou devil from the pits of hell! Your kind will not walk this Earth!"

(The Tyrant’s colossal claw smashes into Jill’s arm, sending a jolt of pain through her body. The force of the strike is as though a boulder has struck her, sending her to the floor. Her arm is wounded, bleeding....)

Jill: (her voice breathless, but full of fury, as she rises to her feet and grabs Wesker’s fallen blade, dual-wielding now, facing the monstrous Tyrant with renewed strength)
"Thou art nothing but a puppet of man's folly! I shall see thee undone! And you shalln't touch Chris! If you come near him..."

(The Tyrant snarls, its massive form lurching toward her again. The claws rip through the air, but Jill parries with both blades, each clash ringing out like thunder in the chamber. With each strike, she inches closer to the heart of the beast, her mind locked on the one weak spot that could end this horror.)

Jill: (to herself, eyes narrowing with purpose)
"The heart! The beast’s heart! 'Tis the only way to bring it low—"
(With a swift motion, Jill spins, both swords raised, and drives one deep into the Tyrant’s chest. The monster lets out a guttural growl, its eyes wide in fury as the steel pierces its hide. A terrible roar rumbles from its throat as its claws lash at Jill. She ducks, narrowly avoiding the rending claws that seek her life, but her gaze does not waver. Her thoughts focus only on the heart.)
(Suddenly, with a loud crash, the door bursts open, and Rebecca charges back into the chamber, her form covered in blood, but miraculously unharmed. Her breath is labored, but her eyes burn with resolve.)
Rebecca: (shouting as she raises Barry’s heavy crossbow, her eyes fierce with resolve, a bolt already nocked)
"Jill! Fall back! I’ll send this monster to Hell!"
(Jill, with a quick, graceful roll, throws herself to the side, narrowly avoiding the Tyrant’s swipe. Rebecca, with deadly accuracy, releases the bolt. It sails through the air with terrifying speed, striking the Tyrant dead-center in the chest. The creature lets out one final, ear-splitting screech as the bolt sinks deep. Its enormous body shudders, and then, with a bone-rattling thud, it collapses to the ground, its monstrous form unmoving.)

Jill: (panting, her voice filled with both relief and disbelief, her eyes darting to Rebecca)
"By the heavens, Rebecca—thou hast struck true! A blow most deadly!" (She runs to Wesker's corpse and snatches up the crimson master key)

Rebecca: (breathing heavily, her voice filled with triumph yet tinged with sorrow)
"Fret not, Jill. I did but lend thee my hand in this cursed fight. But… Barry..."

Jill: (with rising concern)
"Where is Barry?"

Rebecca: (softly, guiding Jill toward the chamber’s exit)
"Come… he lies beyond the door…"
(They step into the first chamber. There, amidst the fallen, lies Barry, blood staining the ground, his sword shattered, his chest torn with grievous wounds. Three Hunters lie at his feet, slain in defense of Rebecca. His breath is shallow, his life waning.)
Barry: (with a weak smile, lifting his head just enough to see Jill)
" Jill... 'tis thee..."

Jill: (kneeling beside him, voice trembling)
"Barry?"

Barry: (chuckling faintly, his voice strained)
"I’m... sore ashamed... to see thee now. Just... just leave me. Go... go quickly..."

Jill: (her eyes brimming with sorrow and determination)
"It’s done, Barry. Wesker’s dead."

Barry: (with a quiet, thoughtful pause, his gaze softening)
"Is't so? (another pause) Jill, wilt thou do me a favor? This... this be my final request. Please... give... this pendant unto my... kin. Wilt thou?"

Jill: (her voice breaking but resolute)
"Indeed, I shall."

Barry: (a sigh escapes his lips as he looks up at her, his final words soft and filled with regret)
"Forgive me... Jill..."

(Barry’s breath falters, and with one last sigh, he falls silent. Jill, in her grief, reaches out, her hand brushing his as she hides her face in sorrow. She then looks down at the pendant he entrusted her with. Engraved upon it are the words: “MY REASON,” and beneath, the names of his children—Moira and Poly—and his beloved wife, Kathy.)
Jill: (her voice firm yet sorrowful, gazing down at the pendant in her hand)
"Daughters of a brave man, I shall avenge thee, and thy fallen father.
I hope, with all my heart, ye shall grow strong, and fair, as the morn’s first light,
To bring cheer unto thy mother’s heart, and unto her soul’s deep sorrow.
Thy father, noble and valiant, shall watch over thee from heaven’s embrace,
A guiding star in the heavens, his love eternal, and his spirit ever near."

(Tears burning, they return to Chris)

Jill: (her voice fierce, yet tinged with the exhaustion of battle, as she gently supports Chris)
"We are here, Chris... and together, we shall flee this cursed place, yea, together!"

Rebecca: (with a note of urgency, her face filled with concern for Chris's weakening state)
"Hold fast, Chris! We are near, nay, we are nigh to freedom!"

Chris: (his voice but a whisper, weak and trembling as he struggles to open his eyes)
"J-Jill... Re-Rebecca..."

(Together, Jill and Rebecca lift Chris unto his feet, burden heavy but resolve unbroken. They stagger, half-carrying, half-dragging him toward the crimson door that stands at the far end of the chamber. The door, as red as the key in Jill's grasp, gleams like the blood of fallen foes.)
(Beyond the crimson door lies an expanse of open field, stretching to a cliff’s edge, a veil of escape hidden beneath the world’s cruel gaze. In the distance, they see Sir Brad’s carriage, a beacon of hope, still waiting.)
Jill: (her eyes filled with desperate hope, her grip tightening upon the warhorn by her side)
"Sir Brad! Come hither, be swift! Hark unto my cry!"

(She brings the warhorn unto her lips, and a mighty sound bursts forth, echoing through the very air. The call rings far and wide across the expanse before them.)

Scene: The Open Field of Peril

(The sound of Brad's carriage rumbles across the field, its wheels churning the earth. His horn bellows, an answering call to Jill’s desperate cry. Yet behind her, doom stirs anew. A monstrous growl rends the air, and the thunderous cadence of the Tyrant’s steps echoes like the toll of a death knell.)

Rebecca: (spinning toward the terrible sound)
"Jill! Behold, the beast! It wakes! Its wrath unquenched, its hunger unending!"

Jill: (eyes widening in horror, yet her voice resolute)
"By all the saints, it lives still! Come, Rebecca, haste! Chris must not fall to this demon’s grasp!"

(Jill and Rebecca strain with all their might, pulling Chris—still weak and groaning—from the chamber's threshold. The Tyrant, its massive form silhouetted against the pale light, advances, rage etched in every sinew of its monstrous frame. It bellows, a sound that freezes blood and quickens despair.)

Jill: (with urgent command)
"Drag him forth! Flee, ere this fiend makes carrion of us all!"

(The Tyrant closes in, its claws tearing through stone as it charges. Behind them, Brad drives his carriage with a frenzy born of desperation.)

Brad: (his voice bellowing over the chaos as he lashes the reins)
"Faster, my steeds! Swifter than the wind! Jill! Hold thy ground but a moment more—I am coming for thee!"

(The horses gallop, their hooves striking like thunder. The carriage careens over the uneven terrain, drawing ever nearer. Jill and Rebecca, struggling under Chris’s weight, glance behind them as the Tyrant's shadow grows darker, larger, and nearer.)

Rebecca: (gasping as she stumbles, her strength nearly failing)
"Jill, the beast gains upon us! We are but moments from ruin!"

Jill: (gritting her teeth, her voice a mix of fury and determination)
"Fear not, Rebecca! Brad shall deliver us, or we shall face this demon together, blades drawn and hearts unyielding!"
(The Tyrant bears down upon them, its monstrous form a shadow of death. The carriage thunders forth, Brad driving with unyielding determination. Jill and Rebecca, with the last reserves of their strength, pull Chris clear of the impending collision just as Brad’s steely resolve turns into action.)

Jill: (panting, clutching Rebecca’s arm as they stagger back)
"Hold, Rebecca! The hour of reckoning is upon us!"

(The Tyrant lets out a bone-chilling roar, claws flashing as it slashes at Brad’s horses. The steeds scream in anguish, their heads flying as the monster’s claws rend them apart. Yet Brad, with unparalleled valor, leaps from the doomed carriage at the last moment, rolling across the rocky ground as the wooden behemoth crashes into the Tyrant.)

Brad: (scrambling to his feet, shouting with fiery resolve)
"Now is the moment, comrades! The fiend is pinned! Strike true, strike swift, and end this cursed thing!"

(The carriage slams the Tyrant against the jagged rocks, splintering with a thunderous crash. The beast is caught, writhing in fury, its claws tearing at the air as it tries to free itself. Jill, Rebecca, and Brad close in, their swords gleaming in the dim light.)

Jill: (drawing her blade, her voice a clarion call of vengeance)
"For Barry! For all who have fallen Wesker's terrors!"

Rebecca: (raising her weapon, her voice trembling yet resolute)
"For the light of justice! Let this beast know the wrath of the righteous!"

Brad: (with a fierce cry, charging forward)
"Strike at its heart, and let it never rise again!"

(Together, they descend upon the Tyrant. Jill’s sword plunges into its exposed, grotesque heart, the monstrous organ throbbing weakly. Rebecca’s blade follows, cutting deep into its unnatural flesh. Brad delivers the final stroke, his blade cleaving through with a force born of fury and desperation. The Tyrant’s death throes are a cacophony of rage and despair, its roars echoing like a dark symphony across the field. The beast convulses, its massive form shuddering as the life drains from it. At last, it collapses, motionless.)

Jill: (her chest heaving, staring down at the fallen monster with a mix of relief and sorrow)
"The beast is vanquished. Yet at what cost...?"

Rebecca: (kneeling, her hands trembling as she wipes blood from her blade)
"May its darkness trouble us no more. But let us remember the bravery of this moment, that we stood as one against despair."

Brad: (placing a steadying hand on Jill’s shoulder, his voice low and grim)
"Come now, the field reeks of death. We must hasten to safety and bring Chris to healing hands. The fight is done—but our journey is not."

(They sheath their bloodied swords, turning to lift Chris once more. The battlefield, strewn with shattered wood, fallen horses, and the massive corpse of the Tyrant, fades into the distance as they make their way to what hope remains.)

Scene: The Forsaken Laboratory

(The laboratory, now a graveyard of shattered ambitions, lies eerily silent. Smoke wafts through the air, mingling with the stench of death. Amidst the ruin, a figure stirs. Wesker, lifeless but moments ago, begins to move. His once-blue eyes open, now aflame with a hellish orange-red glow. Slowly, he rises, his body rejuvenated by a dark and insidious force.)

Wesker: (speaking to the emptiness, his voice cold and commanding)
"Power alone conquers all. Yet power unchecked devours itself, a serpent consuming its tail. Nay, 'tis not for this new god to perish so easily."

(He examines his hands, flexing his fingers, his strength growing by the second. A cruel smile spreads across his face.)

Wesker:
"The draught of Lord Birkin’s cursed genius courses through my veins, a chalice of doom that returns me to this mortal stage. My death? But a fleeting interlude. My Tyrant, felled by their feeble hands? A minor delay. They have taken from me—but they know not the cost they shall bear for their insolence."

(He steps forward, his gaze fixed on the field beyond the laboratory’s cliffs. In the distance, Jill, Rebecca, and Brad carry the wounded Chris, their figures growing smaller as they limp toward their beloved city. Wesker watches them intently, a predator savoring the chase before the kill.)

Wesker: (with venomous resolve)
"Run, Jill. Run, Chris. Run, Rebecca. Run whilst ye may, for thy fleeting freedom shall soon be naught but an illusion. A god awakens, and his dominion shall know no bounds."

(He lifts his gaze to the heavens, his voice resonating like thunder in the hollow halls.)

Wesker:
"My time hath come. The world shall bow, and those who dared oppose me shall taste ruin. By my hand, their hope shall be shattered, their courage undone, and their lives extinguished."

(He descends into the shadows of the laboratory, his form disappearing into the darkness. The faint sound of his malevolent laughter echoes in the void as the curtain falls.)

End Play.
