Work Text:
Leon knew this was it, this was as close as they'd ever be. After Spain though, it was enough. It was enough because he knows she’s not evil.. No matter what the world thought of Ada Wong, they couldn't convince him she was truly who she appeared to be on the surface. Right here in this hotel room, he questioned his own judgment, maybe it was drowned out pressing his lips against her soft skin, holding her close against him. Despite the physical closeness? He felt the wall between them. The lies, the secrets, everything she had to keep from him. "I'll need to go before morning." Abruptly she speaks in that soothing, sensual tone. Ada's hand caressed against Leon's cheek and his weight sunk against her touch. "I expected as much." He replies understandingly before leaning down and kissing her arm once more, and finishing his assault of affection against her shoulder and one last time upon her lips. Ada returned his kiss, gently resting her hand against the back of his head until she felt it needed to end. A woman with less complications would stay with him. A woman like me has no business giving him this much even. The guilt, the spiraling thoughts, all of it. They were tearing her apart but when his icy blue hues caught her gaze she gave the smallest smile. He made her feel human. It wasn't the sex, it was this. This after intimacy she felt for him. How he'd gone through all that trouble in Raccoon City. He thought she was looking for her 'boyfriend' at the time. He risked everything for her... And he lied about seeing her in Spain. He was tortured by seeing her again. Thinking she was dead. Always wondering if she wasn't.
It wasn't better this way, but Ada Wong has no choice.
He knows it too, even if she never tells him why.
In this fucked up world, they know they need each other.
As the kiss broke, he let out a sad sigh. Quickly covering the sadness and any real human emotion by grabbing the bottle of Vodka beside the bed and taking a painfully long swig of it. He sits there with his back to Ada, and his stone wall is broken down when she sits up to run her hands over his bare back, she leaves a lingering trail of kisses from his side up to his neck.
3:30AM. "Will I see you again, or was this our last hurrah, Ada?" As he speaks the way he longingly draws out her name brings a warmth to her chest, but she's already finding her clothes. Scattered on the floor, shirt by the hotel door, underclothes were as far as the bed. The trail told a story of every rough, needy kiss, every grasp against one another. She's trying oh so hard to commit the whole thing to memory as she redresses. "... Can't say for sure, it might be a while." Buttoning up her shirt, her gaze catches him. "6 years a while, or do I get more than a visit to update your driver's license?" Sarcasm heavy in his tone and it brings an almost daring smirk to Ada's lips. "You say that like you missed me, Leon.~" The sudden playfulness told him he isn’t going to get a real answer. He figured as much, but he blames himself for being hopeful. She's practically out the door when she returns to him. Fingers landing under his chin and tilting his gaze up to meet her own. She leans down to kiss him again, tempting herself to stay more and more every time she comes back to him. Only for both of them to know she never can, never will. It wasn't the way the world worked out. Whatever demons Ada Wong wrestled with, they didn't play nice with Leon's demons. He played for another side. The kiss broke and he's left feeling light-headed, lonely, tired. Her love was so temporary every time, but he can't move on from it. A fleeting, teasing, exhausting drug that always comes back in the end, but always leaves him wanting more again. The door slammed gently and Leon finished the bottle before falling asleep on the uncomfortable motel bed. His head swimming in dreams of the woman in red. His heart desperately wanting to hold onto every breath, sigh, and moan that left her lips tonight.
She knew how much it hurt him, she knew because it hurt her as much or more. The tears fell from her eyes as she texted back a confirmation to her employer safely away from any lingering eyes. The organization who pulled her strings. Those who kept her leashed up like a dog, chained to their whims. They kept her from living any life outside of this deep rooted Bioterroristic Hell that the world had become. Leon's mistake was treating Ada Wong like a human being. Using her sexuality, her charm, her looks, her body to manipulate deeply terrifying people into whatever she needed was what she had come to know. Back '98 before Leon, it was nothing else. Spies learn early on that vulnerability is a tool.
"See you again soon, handsome." a simple text from her other phone to Leon. Washing away the thoughts of him and steeling herself for what's to come. She loves him, and anyone who saw what they went through every single time they had to go their separate ways would tell them to let each other go. How can she release the only human being on the planet who has ever bothered to make her feel like a person? Maybe it's selfish. All that matters for certain to Ada is he's the only one who saves her from herself. A glimpse to her phone screen, wiping the tears away and letting a final smile bleed through the cracks as she read his response. "I'll always be waiting for you, Ada."
