It was rare when the oldest members of the Fortress had time off. Rarer still when they had it at the same time thanks to the nature of their expertise. No drills. No chaplain visits. No current missions being filled.
It was peaceful, for now.
Brel couldn’t help but send Sepheran a grin, lightly bumping his shoulder against the Apothecaries, “Nice to have some time off.. even for a moment. Do you have plans for the night?”
Said Apothecary eyed the techmarine at his side, an Ioh stick half way to his mouth just begging to be lit. “No, why?”
“Figured we could settle in and watch some old shows I got my hands on. The old black and white type.”
Despite himself Sepheran grunted, clearly interested, taking a moment to light and take a drag before answering. “What Genres?”
“For these? Mostly Romance. Might have some comedy too, maybe a couple cartoons but I haven’t quite got those all catalogued yet.”
“alright.”
That answer only seemed to please Brel more, something that may have been a smile lingering at the edges of his eyes. A half step later and he was leading the way towards his quarters and letting the Apothecary in. “Make yourself at home.”
Sepheran at least wasn’t one to be told twice, immediately moving to park himself on what looked like a couch facing an older if modified broadcast viewing station. “Ah, so you finally got those working?”
“Aye. Just needed to clean the read heads and replace a bit of wiring. The disks just needed the scratches buffed out.” A moment later Brel was there, laying out the Choices of shows, an excited little gleam in his eyes. “Tested it out this morning. Worked like a dream.”
Sepheran couldn’t help but spare something of a smile back, placing the Ioh stick down on the pilfered ash tray. “Oh? Some of these are about a century old. How’d you get them to work?”
“Copies, mostly. I ripped the originals a long while back. Burned them to backup disks and wafers where possible.”
“Smart thinking. How about this? I think I saw previews of it once. Always wanted to watch.”
Brel chuckled taking the indicated disk so he could get the shows started up, the screen flickering to life a moment later as he grabbed the remote and tossed it to Sepheran. “Here.”
A button later and the movie played.
