The soft golden light of the Solarian sun spilled into the palace nursery, illuminating the room in a warm, comforting glow. Stella leaned against the doorway, her arms crossed, watching the tiny bassinet in the corner. Inside, her newborn daughter, Solana, cooed softly, one little hand reaching for the shimmering mobile above her.
The nursery was everything Stella had imagined—walls painted in soft hues of gold and lavender, delicate floral patterns etched along the ceiling, and plush furnishings that made the space feel both elegant and cozy. Despite all that, the most breathtaking thing in the room was the tiny being she and Brandon had brought into the world.
“Hey,” Brandon’s voice was soft as he came up behind her, slipping his arms around her waist.
Stella smiled, leaning back into his embrace. “Hey.”
“How long have you been standing here?” he asked, resting his chin on her shoulder.
“A while,” Stella admitted. “I can’t stop staring at her.”
Brandon chuckled quietly. “She is pretty amazing.”
Stella turned her head slightly to look at him. “You’re not just saying that because she looks like me, are you?”
“Absolutely not,” Brandon teased, planting a kiss on her temple. “Though the resemblance is uncanny. The golden hair, the little button nose… she’s going to be a heartbreaker, just like her mom.”
Stella swatted his arm playfully, but her smile grew wider. “You’re lucky I’m too tired to argue with you.”
“Good,” Brandon said, stepping into the room and kneeling beside the bassinet. He reached out a finger, which Solana immediately grasped with surprising strength for someone so small. “Because she’s perfect, Stell. She’s got your spark.”
Stella moved closer, her heart swelling as she watched Brandon with their daughter. The way his eyes softened, his voice gentle—it was a side of him she had always loved, but seeing it directed toward their child made her fall in love with him all over again.
“She has your heart,” Stella said softly, sitting down on the plush armchair beside the bassinet.
Brandon glanced up, his brow furrowed. “Are you crying?”
“Maybe,” Stella sniffled, brushing a tear from her cheek. “I blame the hormones.”
Brandon rose and crouched beside her chair, taking her hand in his. “You’re allowed to cry, you know. This is a big deal.”
“I know,” Stella whispered, her voice trembling. “It’s just… she’s here, Brandon. After all the waiting, the worrying, the wondering if we’d be good enough—she’s actually here. And she’s so tiny and so perfect, and it’s overwhelming.”
Brandon kissed her hand, his grip firm but comforting. “You don’t have to do this alone, Stell. We’re in this together, remember?”
Stella nodded, taking a deep, shaky breath. “Together.”
Just then, Solana let out a soft cry, her little fists flailing. Stella’s maternal instincts kicked in instantly. She reached for her daughter, lifting her from the bassinet with practiced care despite her lingering nerves.
“Shh, it’s okay, sweetheart,” Stella cooed, cradling the baby against her chest. “Mommy’s here.”
Brandon stood, watching with quiet admiration as Stella rocked their daughter. “You’re a natural,” he said.
Stella shot him a look. “Don’t jinx it.”
He grinned, moving to stand behind her. He rested his hands on her shoulders, leaning down to press a kiss to the top of her head. “I mean it. You’re amazing.”
Solana’s cries began to quiet as she nestled against Stella, her tiny body relaxing. Stella marveled at how easily the baby seemed to trust her, as though she knew without question that she was safe.
Brandon moved to the nearby dresser and opened a drawer, pulling out a small golden box. “I almost forgot—I have something for her.”
Stella raised an eyebrow, watching as he brought the box over. “You got her a gift already?”
“Of course,” Brandon said, sitting beside her on the armrest. He opened the box to reveal a delicate bracelet, crafted from Solarian gold and adorned with a single tiny sun-shaped charm.
“It’s beautiful,” Stella said, her voice filled with awe. “Where did you find it?”
“I had it made,” Brandon said. “I wanted her to have something to remind her of where she comes from. And when she’s older, she can wear it and know how much she’s loved.”
Stella blinked back more tears as she carefully took the bracelet. “Brandon, this is… it’s perfect.”
He shrugged, though his cheeks turned pink. “I just wanted to do something special. For her. For you.”
Stella leaned up to kiss him, her lips lingering against his. “Thank you.”
“Anything for my girls,” Brandon said, his voice filled with emotion.
Stella gently placed the bracelet back in the box, knowing it would be a while before Solana could wear it. For now, the moment was enough—sitting here, holding their daughter, surrounded by love and light.
“Do you think she’ll like Solaria?” Stella asked after a moment.
“Of course she will,” Brandon said. “How could she not? It’s her home.”
Stella smiled, brushing a finger over Solana’s soft golden hair. “I hope she’s happy here. I hope she feels like she belongs.”
“She will,” Brandon said firmly. “Because we’ll make sure she does.”
As the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting long shadows across the nursery, Stella felt a profound sense of peace. Their journey as parents was just beginning, but for the first time, she wasn’t scared.
With Brandon by her side and Solana in her arms, she knew they could face anything together.
