Work Header

she’s just a daydream film scene

Summary:

“Dash, I think it’s time to get up.”

Her girlfriend simply turned over, one arm under the colourful patterned fabric of her pillow, and buried her face in it.

Or:

The lengths Applejack must go to get her insufferable partner out of bed in the mornings.

Notes:

Another very short comfort fic because I miss my stupid stupid partner so I figured I would once again live vicariously through human versions of colourful horses :) my editing involved skimming this for like three seconds so if there’s mistakes no there isn’t.

Title is from “Film Scene Daydream” by Alfie Templeman

Work Text:

“Dash, I think it’s time to get up.”

Her girlfriend simply turned over, one arm under the colourful patterned fabric of her pillow, and buried her face in it.

Rainbow always brought her own pillow to Applejack’s house, all blues and yellows and covered in little lightning bolts. She hardly needed to. She always ended up cuddling the other girl’s pillows, green and red plaid. Or the girl herself. Not that Applejack minded in the slightest.

“You get up too early, I’m no farmer” she said with a pout, glaring daggers at Applejack.

She simply tutted in response, slowly lifting herself into a sitting position on the edge of the bed. “Well, you’re on the farm right now, I would wager five bulls that makes you one- oomph-“

Rainbow Dash wrapped her arms around her waist and pulled her back down sharply, entangling their limbs and clinging to her like a koala. “Just another minute…”

“Hey! No, hands off you- you simpleton!” She squawked indignantly.

“‘Simpleton?’” Her partner looked at her with a bizarre combination of awe, sleepiness, and disgust. “You’ve been spending way too much time with Rarity, AJ.”

“Says the girl who stayed up until 2 reading Daring Do fanfiction-“

“Excuse me! That was my decision not Twilight’s!”

Applejack clicked her tongue, remembering all the skinny paperbacks piling into their shared bookshelf, the purple sticker on the back clearly indicating their origin. She raised an eyebrow. “And your dog-eared copy of ‘Duster of the far forest’? You mean to tell me that wasn’t Twilight’s recommendation?”

Dash pinched her side. “It was in the adventure section, Apples! That doesn’t count as a book!”

“Does too”

“Does not”

“Does too”

“Does not,” Dash punctured this statement by tickling her girlfriend roughly.

Applejack yelped, and flipped them over, straddling her significant annoyance, and poked her in the stomach. Then in the side, then everywhere. They were both laughing now, though Applejack more manically so.

Realising that her opponent was armed and relentless, Rainbow seemingly saw no other means of escape. She grabbed her by her pyjama collar and kissed her.

The other girl kissed her back, cradling her head in her hands, leaning back slightly to allow Dash to settle into a sitting position.

The blonde girl grinned against her lips, then pulled away slightly.

“Seems like someone is awake now, huh?” She grinned, lifting her girlfriend’s chin with her finger.

Rainbow went bright pink, collapsed her forehead against her shoulder and growled.

Applejack just laughed harder.
