Chapter 1: Tutoring

Chapter Text

“Hi, guys, do you need something?” I asked, looking up from my homework at the three aliens watching me.

“Yes,” the aliens said in unison. “We were wondering if you could tutor us," Aspen clarified. “You guys finished high school in 23 minutes, I don't think you need my help studying,” I said confused.

Ali rolled her eyes, “in emotions.” I looked up at the aliens who were waiting for my response.

“Yeah, of course,” I answered. The aliens looked at each other then walked away. I got up going to my next class, as I was about to leave I ran into three familiar aliens.

“Ahh, you scared me” I jumped back. “Sorry” Alan apologized. “It's fine” I straightened my hair with my hands.

“So, when is our first lesson?” Aspen asked. I checked the time on my z band, making sure there was time, “I mean, I'm free right now.”

“Great” Aspen looked up, “mothership beam us up.” I felt my feet leave the ground as my body started to distort. I closed my eyes for a second and when I opened them I was surrounded by the mothership. I followed the aliens to the same room we were in when Aspen asked for my help with their knowledge of Seabrook.

“Okay so what do you want to know?" I was not really sure how to teach emotions. "Well when I was talking about harmony, you said I seemed angry” Ali started.

“Yeah” I said, waiting for her to continue, “What is angry?” Ali asked.

I tried my best to explain anger as the aliens took notes. They kept asking me questions and I kept explaining them, well at least as best I could. I don't know how they were able to come to a new planet and then learn how to feel, all at seventeen.

“Thank you for helping us," Aspen said. “Yes, it is greatly appreciated,” Alan smiled at me.

“No problem,” I said, picking my bag up and heading to the beaming pad. I stepped onto the middle circle closing my eyes. When I opened them again I was on the ground.

I checked the time realizing that I was supposed to be hanging out with Eliza. I ran over to her house, and knocked on her door completely out of breath.

“Hey Eliza,” I said, clutching my chest. “Did you run here from the school?" Eliza gestures at my arm which was clutching on to the door frame.

“Yeah, how do you do this every day, it's like seven miles?" Eliza opened the door, jestering towards their couch, “Well I guess it just helps me clear my head.” I nodded, still not really able to talk, as I picked up the remote playing whatever channel appeared.

“What were you doing after school anyway, I thought football practice was canceled today?” Eliza sat down beside me. “Oh, I was helping the aliens, they wanted to be tutored in emotions” I replied as Eliza seemed to suddenly become a lot interested in the conversation.

“Oh, and how are they?” Eliza said with almost too much curiosity. “There fine” I scanned Eliza's face. Maybe she liked an alien, but who? That's when an idea came to me.

“Aspen seemed really interested in emotions” I watched Eliza carefully, “Alan was very interested in competition” Eliza was still watching the TV. “And Ali-” I said. As soon as I said Ali's name Eliza, still facing the TV, sat up, her eyes almost sparkling.

“AH-HA” I turned toward her, “YOU LIKE ALI,” I practically screamed. “I do not, and stop yelling” Eliza snapped back, but there was no way I was going to leave it at that.

“Yes, you totally do,” I protested. “Just watch the tv, and do not say a word to anyone” Eliza said, slightly annoyed with me. I faced the TV smirking to myself.
