Chapter Text
There is a new person in her tavern. She doesn’t know why. It’s the night shift, no one new comes in at this hour.
Ivy looks over from polishing a wine glass and sees a girl with brown hair and hazel eyes awkwardly perched on a barstool.
“Hello.” Ivy smiles. She doesn’t feel that way, but customer service dictates that she appears friendly as much as she can.
“May I order a cup of coffee?” the girl whispers, obviously anxious but seemingly having no reason to.
It’s way too late for coffee, why would they order that?
“Of course!” Ivy says cheerfully. “What kind?”
“Black” the girl mutters.
The girl pays for her coffee and leaves. Ivy is back serving her regulars.
Ivy didn’t ask her name. For her, it’s just another customer who comes and goes.
No matter how odd they may be.

Luna regrets dragging herself out of her apartment.
Okay, so it might be a little cramped. But it’s fine! It’s fine. The rent is cheap, and being a vigilante isn’t exactly paying the bills.
Despite her already strained budget
she’s skipped meals, it’s not enough, it’s never enough
she finds herself at a local tavern, fully intending to ask for work, but she ends up buying a coffee.
She takes a sip.
Luna begrudgingly admits that this is better coffee than she’s had in a while, and she spends the rest of the evening sipping her coffee and reading a book.
Before she knows it, the sun goes down. She takes a breath.
Alright, Luna. Put on your vigilante outfit. Make sure you’re armed. Go out.
Aether jumps off the balcony into the night.
she refuses to admit that the simple task takes more out of her than it should
