Chapter Text
“All of these are over 30 minutes,” you looked at your handheld; the grocery orders were not this behind when you left for lunch an hour ago.
The phone rang so your manager answered, “Hello Choas Mart Online Grocery and Pickup how may I help you?”
You didn’t stay to hear the call because you had to rush to get the cold food from the cooler. You brought it out and put it on the dolly.
“I’ll take this out,” you said as you hooked the handle to the dolly. Your coworkers did not acknowledge your presence as they chatted.
Out the door, you went to the parking lot full of cars waiting for their grocery orders. You got to an older-looking, blue station wagon.
“Hello, I have your order,” you said in your customer service voice.
A skinny, pale old woman with a black bob stepped out of the car. She was holding a sickly white chihuahu.
“Finally, I’ve been waiting for thirty minutes,”
“I apologize, ma’am. Where would you like me to load your groceries,”
“Get me fresh meat off the shelf right now. Thatmwat is probably spoiled and I can’t feed that to Snowflake,”
“Ma’am, I assure you the meat has been kept cold. Once we pick the items we put them in a cooler. If the meat is spoiled then we can issue a refund,”
“I don’t care. You will get me another meat. I shouldn’t have to get a refund for you all’s laziness,”
“Ma’am, I can not do that. Here I will show you the meat,”
“I do not appreciate your smart mouth. I am going to call corporate and have you fired,”
“You know what,” you switched out of your customer service voice, “I’ll do you one better, I quit,”
You dropped your handheld and unzipped your Choas Mart vest. You threw it on top of her groceries and you clocked out using the Choas Mart app on your phone.
“I’m so tired of working so hard and being treated like shit,” you walked away to go to the break room to retrieve your bag and lunch box.
“You young people will get nowhere if you just quit,”
“Like I want to be a cranky old bitch like you,” you gave her the middle finger.
You walked quickly to the breakroom, perhaps it was your anger that compelled you forward. You were gone before anyone noticed something was amiss.
…
You spent the rest of what would have been your shift in bed watching anime and eating junk food. You blocked the manager’s number because you didn’t feel like answering questions.
“Oh, Y/N,” you heard your roommate, Seema.
You groned because you knew a lecture was coming. Seema was a nice college girl you met while working at Choas Mart. She is a beautiful girl with glossy, long black hair.. She was majoring in Business and Political Science.
“I’m in my room,” you shouted.
Seema came into your room.
“So, you quit your job?” she crossed her arms.
“Yep,” you popped the ‘p’.
“Your manager came to my department,” she worked in Apparel, “and told me you just walked away. He couldn’t believe it, and neither could I. You’re such a hard worker, what happened?” she sat on your bed as though she was trying to play as your parent. She meant well but it sometimes got under your skin.
“They hired a bunch of damn teenagers and college students, no offense, who don’t need the money. Felt like I was babysitting. I have to do the difficult tasks that they refuse,”
“You should have told your manager,” there she was trying to defend the business.
“Like he would do shit. It’s not like the company cares for me. Been working since I was 18. 5 years I gave that place and the only time I got a fucking raise was when minimum wage went up,” you sat up, “besides I ain’t a snitch,”
“Well, now you need a new job,”
“I know. I just want to relax for today,” you hoped that she would leave you be.
“I am taking a weekend trip with my partner,”
“The art major?”
“Yes, them. But I need to find you a job. I’ll help with your resume,”
“I’ll be fine, don’t worry,”
Seema got her phone out.
“Every business major got an email about an office assistant job with GUN. Their salary is too low in my opinion. Here take a look,” she handed you her phone.
The job was to do some simple filing work and mission reports. The job did not require a college degree nor any pervious office experience. What caught your eye was the pay: it was double what Choas Mart paid you.
“Sign me up,” you said.
…
Not even 3 days later you got called in for an interview. Seema had purchased your interview clothes. You stood behind the door with interviews ahead of you. IT felt like they would get the job. They were college-educated and had previous office experience.
“Your turn Mx.,” said a raccoon Mobian sectary. She had on a white button-up and black pants.
“Thank you,” you said in your force-of-habit customer service voice.
You were led into a board room that felt open. There was a stage with a podium and projector. In front, sitting at a table, was an older human woman with gray bobbed hair and was wearing a tan suit. With her was a pretty bat Mobian woman wearing a skin-tight black suit with a heart at her breast. Her makeup was beautifully done; the blue eyeshadow made her teal eyes pop.
“Hello cutie, you’re Y/N L/N?” she looked up from her sheet of paper. Your face heated up.
“Rouge, professionalism,” said the human woman. She looked at the bat woman with a disappointed look through her glasses.
“You don’t know how to relax, Aaliyah,”
“Anyway, Mx. L/N. I noticed on your resume you only worked at Choas Mart. Tell me why you want this job?”
“I would like a change,” you cringe. It was bullshit such as this interview. You had to stop the cringe from appearing on your face. The human woman constantly kept giving you a look of disappointment meanwhile the bat woman sent you flirt smirks and winks.
You knew you did not get the job; what were you thinking? Applying for a job you had to go up against more qualified individuals. You spent the next few days with snacks and anime. That was until you heard your phone ring: you got the job!
…
The following Monday you started your new job. You sat at your desk with amazement. You have a desk now!
The door opened and revealed a handsome black and red hedgehog.
“Are you the new sectary?” he asked in a deadpanned way.
“Yes, sir,” you said nervously.
Thus began your new office life….

“Good, we were waiting for a new secretary,” Shadow placed some scorched paper on your desk. “Here are some notes from my last mission. Make a report and submit it to Commander Tower.”
“Hi, my name is Y/N L/N,” you stood up and held out your hand to him.
He took your hand and y’all shook hands.
“I am Shadow The Hedgehog, the Ultimate Lifeform.” Shadow let go of your hand.
He walked out of the room to who knows where. Not too long after, the bat lady who interviewed you walked in.
“Hello, honey, I guess you met Mr. Moody,” she shrugged
“Yes, ma’am,” you said.
“Oh, no need to be so formal. I am only 20,” you had a feeling she was older, but you were not going to say anything. “I have a few notes on my mission.
She handed you a paper that was typed, neat, and detailed.
“I am Rouge the Bat, by the way. We met during the job interview.”
“I remember, you are hard to forget.”
“Oh, I know,” she winked.
Suddenly, loud robotic footsteps echoed through the halls. A menacing robot stood at the door.
“Well, are you going to introduce yourself?” Rouge said.
“Affirmative. I am designed as E-123 Omega, but you may call me Omega. I am the firepower of Team Dark,”
You looked him up and down; you knew that he had many guns within him.
“Hi, I am F/N L/N, I am the new secretary for Team Dark.”
“Hey, Omega, let’s show them around the base,” said Rouge.
“I will show you the weapons room!”
“They don’t have clearance to go there.”
“That sucks,”
You were shocked that Omega spoke with informality.
“I see that you don’t know where the break room is,” Rouge pointed to your lunchbox that was on your desk.
You followed Rouge and Omega to the break room. The break room had white tile floor and blue tile walls. The center had ping-pong tables that were being used by two human men with casual uniforms on.
“Over here is the kitchen,” Rouge painted to a nook at the far end. There is a large stainless-steel refrigerator. Next to the refrigerator was a wooden counter with a white microwave. The was a table with two chairs in front of the microwave and refrigerator.
“The staff mainly uses the kitchen since the agents and soldiers eat in the mess hall,” Rouge explained.
You went to the large stainless steel refrigerator and you opened both of the doors, inside there were lunchboxes that were piled on top of each other. You had to make room in the back for yours to fit.
After finally finding room for your lunchbox, you, Rouge, and Omega walked to the gym, which was next to the break room. The gym was a rather large facility, a basketball court was nearest to the entrance, and surrounding the basketball court were different workout equipment. On the farthest side from you was a mat which was in front of the GUN logo.
You saw Shadow sparing with a cat GUN agent. The agent tried to attack Shadow, but Shadow flipped him over his shoulder.
“You call that an attack? Pathetic. When you are in the true battlefield, you can’t be so obvious. That will get you killed,” Shadow lectured the agent who was still on the ground.
“Hi, Shadow,” Rouge called from across the gym. She walked toward him; you can Omega followed him.
“I see you are not going easy on the meat bag,” said Omega.
“We are done for the day. I suggest you practice some forms tonight,” Shadow said to the agent who got up and left. He looked at Rouge and said, “What are you doing?”
“Just showing the newbie around,”
“Wasting time,”
“No. They needed to know where to put their lunchbox and where the gym is.”
Shadow looked at you.
“You should consider learning martial arts even though you’re staff. GUN bases get attacked often,” Shadow said.
“No, thank you.” You did not want to be tossed around.
“Are you afraid I will hurt you?” There was amusement in Shadow’s voice. Is he competitive?
“Yes,”
Shadow laughed as he left to what you assumed was the locker rooms. For the rest of the work day you learned the ropes and got comfortable with the new work environment.
Notes:
I am sorry for the slow update. College has been rough, and it has been hard to focus with everything going on in the world. Thank you, everyone, for reading and putting up with my hiatus.
Chapter Text
It has been a month since you started working as Team Dark’s secretary, and all has gone well. No one has insulted your intelligence, unlike your manager and customers at Chaos Mart. You were at your desk making a spreadsheet of Omega’s collateral damage when Shadow walked in with a human man with light brown hair.
“Y/n,” Shadow greeted you.
“Yes, sir,” you said.
“This is-”
“Captain Andrews, leader of Team Spider,” He interrupted Shadow, and he forced you to shake his hand.
“Hello, my name is Y/N L/N,” you took your hand back
“You will-” Shadow started.
“You are going to be Team Spider’s temporary secretary until we find a new one. Good-for-nothing just quit on us. No notice,” Andrews' smile was good-natured.
“Yes, sir. Just hand me the mission notes and I will turn in the report promptly.”
“Good, jealous that Commander Tower’s pets get the new secretary before us,” he leaned on your desk, “Here are the notes. I expect it done today, sweetheart,” he placed the notes that were on a single sticky note on your desk.
He walked out of the room whistling as if he didn’t have any problems in his life. Shadow gave you a sympathetic look.
“GUN should find a replacement soon, but do what you can for Team Spider. Team Dark’s work is your priority. I have spoken to Commander Tower to increase your pay during your time as a substitute. Tell me if the Captain gives you any trouble,” Shadow left.
You went back to Omega’s Collateral Damage spreadsheet. The amount of property damage that Omega caused took you until your shift was over. You will have to do Captain Andrews' report tomorrow morning.
…
As soon as you got into the office, you began work on Team Spider’s report. Unlike the notes you got from Team Dark, there was barely any information to report. The information only provided ‘who’ and ‘what’, not ‘where’, ‘when’, and ‘why’. There was also no estimate on collateral damage, which is required for every report. The lack of information was worrisome because you could be fired. So, when you submitted Team Spider’s report, you attached a scan of the notes that Captain Andrews handed you.
Two hours later, Rouge sauntered over to your desk and sat on top of your desk as usual.
“Guess what?” she leaned in.
“What?” you answered as you looked away from your work.
“Today were interviews for Team Spider’s new secretary. There should be a decision made today.”
“Good, I am already tired of working with Captain Andrews.”
“I feel that, hon. I hate it when Team Dark works with him. Though the team members are awesome. Speaking of which, next Friday me and some of Team Spider are going out for drinks, wanna come?”
“Yes,” you now have a chance to meet more people. This was also the first time any coworker invited you out.
“I have a date tonight,”
“Congradulation! Who is it? You don’t have to tell me, though.”
“Topaz. She is in the Presidential troop.”
“The lady with the short brown hair? You ate lunch with her yesterday?”
“Yes. You should have seen her face when she asked me out. She was all blushie and-”
“Y/N L/N!” a masculine voice bellowed through your office.
In front of your doorway stood Captain Andrews with anger in his eyes. His breath was that of an animal that was on the defensive.
“How dare you rat me out to Commander Tower! And look, you are sitting around gossiping and not doin’ shit!”
“Now, Captain Andrews, you know that’s not right,”
“Can it, Bat Bitch!”
“No wonder your old secretary quit,” you said.
“What?!” he glared at you.
“You heard me,” you glared back, “You lazy, ungrateful, misogynistic prick. I do you a favor by doing the paperwork for Spider, but you thank me by insulting me and my co-worker. GUN must be desperate for warm bodies because that is the only way I see GUN keeping you around.”
“Excuse me,” there was an unfathomable amount of hatred in his eyes, “I will have your job!”
“Good, at least I don’t have to see your ugly face again!”
Andrews marched over to your desk and raised his hand to slap you, so you braced yourself. You hoped he hit you so you could have an excuse to take out your rage on him. You closed your eyes, but no impact was made.
“You are seriously going to hit a civilian. How pathetic,” said a familiar soft voice.
Notes:
I apologize for the slow update. I graduated college but I had a time finding a job. I now work as a janitor. I am also a shipper of Rouge and Topaz
