Chapter Text
Teddy was asleep in his room, but Jack couldn’t sleep. His daddy was away catching bad guys and had been gone for three days, and didn’t know when he would be able to come home yet, the bad guy they were looking for was extra sneaky. But Jack missed his daddy and wished he could have tucked him in.
Haddy did a good job tucking Jack in, but sometimes he just wanted his daddy. Jack tossed, and pulled his blankets up further, stroking the soft material, fingers tracing over the loops and knots of the yarn. His eyes welled up. He really wanted his daddy tonight. Sniffing, he climbed out of bed. Haddy always says that he can come get him if he needs him, he just hoped it was ok to wake him up.
Jack crept down the hall, dragging his blanket and his dinosaur, both made by his Haddy. He hesitated in front of Haddy’s door, but then softly knocked, unsure if he could go in. Haddy and Daddy both said if a door is shut, that he has to knock. He waited, swaying side to side, squeezing his dino tightly, when the door opened, Haddy standing there looking sleepy.
”Jack? Are you alright?”
Jack sniffed and looked up at Haddy. “I miss daddy.”
Haddy kneeled down, pulling him into a hug. “Oh sweetheart, I know.” Jack loved Haddy’s hugs, they were almost as good as daddy’s. He wrapped his arms around Haddy’s neck, and he stood, hugging Jack close. “How about we go have some hot chocolate - that always makes me feel better.” Jack nodded his head into Haddy’s neck. Hot chocolate made him feel better too.
Haddy carried him to the kitchen, and set him gently on the counter, before pulling things out of the cabinet and putting a pot on the stove. Haddy’s hot chocolate was always magical and Jack loved watching him mix all the things until it was perfect.
“Can I have sprinkles?” Haddy smiled at him. “Of course love. Which color?”
”Green!” Jack loved green.
Haddy just chuckled, “Green it is then.”
Haddy waved his wand and music started playing softly while he mixed things up. Finally it was ready, and Haddy poured it into Jack’s special dinosaur mug, and then put cream and sprinkles on top.
”I think, just this once, we can drink this in the living room. We can put a movie on.” Jack beamed at Haddy. They were never allowed to have food in the living room. Haddy said they aren’t mindless robots and can eat proper meals at a proper table.
Haddy carried Jack into the living room, their mugs floating ahead of them. They got settled together on the couch, and Haddy put on the movie where they show all the whales.
They sipped their chocolate quietly, watching whales swim through the ocean, and Jack could feel his eyes getting heavy. After he yawned for the fourth time, Haddy took his mug setting it down, and tucked Jack into his side, stroking his hair. It felt nice, he felt warm and safe, and he still missed his daddy, but Haddy was here and loved him and daddy would come back.
The next morning Jack woke up to realize Daddy came home while he was sleeping. He was laying on the couch, with Haddy tucked into his side under his arm, and Jack laying on top of him, his arm secure around his waist. Teddy had climbed on top of Haddy and had a leg draped over Jack’s side - his mouth was hanging open and he was drooling all over Haddy’s shirt. Jack smiled, and snuggled closer into the people he loved most in the world.
