The Boss knocked on Johnny’s door before entering the room.
“Come in!” He yelled, welcoming her inside.
The redhead entered his room, closing the door behind her. Her second in command was sitting on his sofa across from the TV, controller in hand. She glanced at the television to see what game he was playing, but she didn’t recognize this one. It looked a bit like Zombie Uprising,
but it was from the first person perspective.
“What’s this?” She asked as she sat down next to him, “New game?”
“Nah it’s not new,” he answered, not taking his eyes off the screen, “I played this all the time as a kid, here check it out.”
She picked up the game’s box that sat on the table in front of them. The cover read ‘COOM’ in big, bold letters. Beneath the title, there was a buff guy with a helmet fending off hordes of demons at his feet. The redhead then glanced up at the TV to see the gameplay. It appeared as if all you did in this game was kill demons while quickly traversing the levels that had some parkour elements scattered throughout them.
“You played this as a kid?” The Boss raised an eyebrow, but she wasn’t surprised.
“Fuck yeah,” he nodded, still focused on the game, “y’know, I remember when I was little, there was this stigma against video games and how the make kids violent and shit.”
“Yeah?” The redhead didn’t know much about games, neither back then nor now.
“Playing this never made me wanna kill people,” he then smiled as he continued slaughtering the enemies on screen, “it only made me wanna kill demons.”
Vivi’s grip on the sofa’s armrest tightened. A hint of concern made itself shown on her face as she nervously side-eyed her best friend.
Johnny didn’t know that the woman sitting next to him was literally a demon, thus the Boss figured she should disregard his comment.
But it still made her feel a little uneasy hearing him say that with a smile.
“The Coomguy was like a hero to me growing up,” he explained.
“Coomguy?” She was unsure of whom he meant.
“The guy in green with the helmet,” Johnny clarified.
“Oh…”
“You wanna try?” He offered her the controller while the game was paused.
But Velvet declined, raising her hands in front of her, “N-no I’m good, thanks.”
“Suit yourself,” the man shrugged before unpausing the game and continuing the carnage, “but Kate really liked it.”
That second part caused her to dig her nails into the sofa. Of course the blonde enjoyed this, she had done this for a living.
Vivi got up from the couch and was about to leave the room, “I’m a little tired, I think I’m going to bed.”
“Night,” he casually dismissed her without looking away from the TV screen.
An hour later, the Boss was still sitting awake on her bed. The blanket covered her entire body, with only her eyes peeking out from underneath it. She had trouble sleeping, something was bothering her but she was too afraid to check. Unable to do it herself, she called for help.
“Johnny, I need you to come to my room, now!” She whispered into her phone.
“W-What’s wrong, I thought you were sleepin’?” Her second in command was confused by the request but assured her he would be on his way.
It didn’t take long for him to enter her room. Upon turning the lights on, he saw her cowering on the bed, hiding beneath her blanket.
“Hey, Boss, wh-” but she cut him off.
“No time! Quick, I need you to check under my bed!” She sounded frantic as she made her strange demand.
“The fuck?” He closed the door behind him before approaching the bed, “What’s the problem?”
“Please just take a look, I think there is a Coomguy hiding under my bed!” The Boss sounded as if she was close to tears.
Johnny just laughed at her outlandish request, “You’re fuckin’ kiddin’ me…”
But the pleading look in her eyes told him she was being earnest, so he let out a sigh and got down on his knees, ready to bend over to look underneath her bed. All he saw were a couple of boxes, which he knew contained shit she had stolen from people.
“So!?” The redhead was impatient when he was taking too long. Her head was poking out from the sheets a little.
“Hmm, let’s see…” Johnny purposefully took his time giving her an answer, “Nah, doesn’t look like there’s a- OH SHIT!”
He made himself fall over as he jumped back, with a yelp. His glasses dropped to the ground from the sudden movement. The Boss panicked and let out a scream as her friend pretended to be under attack on the floor. She withdrew her head beneath the safe blanket and tucked her legs in, hoping that the Coomguy couldn’t get her.
Vivi heard Johnny struggling for a few seconds before his grunting turned into stifled laughter. Curious as to what was so funny,
she cautiously peeked out from her blankie, “Did you get him?”
Johnny, however, couldn’t answer. He was hunched over, holding his belly as he laughed, tears forming in his eyes. The Boss’ face slowly changed from fearful to annoyed. It took him a moment to compose himself. The man wiped his eyes with his shirt and picked up his glasses from the ground before getting up.
“THAT’S NOT FUNNY!” She yelled, throwing her pillow at him.
“I think it was hilarious,” he chuckled a little.
Disagreeing with him, the horned woman jumped off her bed and forced him to leave her room. She slammed the door shut in anger,
still hearing him giggling outside.
Johnny would be lying if he said he didn’t feel a little bad about teasing her like that, but the whole situation seemed like a joke to begin with.
No way she actually believed the Coomguy was under her bed, that’s something a five year old would be afraid of. He decided to call it a day and not poke the bear for now. The Saint was confident she’d calm down by tomorrow, he knew her well enough by now.
He also knew what his Halloween costume was going to be this year.
