Chapter Text
In Leon’s defense, he’d panicked. They’d asked him about Ada, and he’d said the first thing that came to his head.
He’s surprised they even let him see her. She’s asleep, and she looks so tiny in the hospital bed that Leon is almost tempted to pull her into his arms. He doesn’t. Instead, he pulls a chair up to her bedside and takes her hand.
He’d fallen asleep at some point, and when he wakes up, Ada is watching him.
“Hi,” he says, rubbing his eyes.
“Hi,” she says.
“I need-” he stops, stands, and nearly falls because his legs are asleep.
He kisses Ada’s cheek, praying that she won’t freak out, and whispers against her skin, “I need to talk to you.”
Thankfully, Ada doesn’t react. She pulls back the blanket and pats the bed next to her. Leon toes off his shoes and climbs into the bed. It’s too small for the two of them, and he ends up laying on his good side against her. She grabs his arm and drapes it over herself.
“What did you need to talk about?” she murmurs.
Her lips are barely an inch from Leon’s, and he shivers. God, please don’t let him get a boner.”
“Don’t freak out,” he whispers. “We’re in a government facility and I, um- I told them you’re my wife.
Ada just blinks. “Why?”
I didn’t know what else to say. They asked me who you were and I just-”
“No, I mean why are you protecting me?” Ada asks. “What happened to taking me in?”
Leon shrugs. “I dunno. There’s no point, I guess. The sample’s gone.”
Ada laughs softly. “You’re adorable. So, I’m your wife, huh?”
Leon blushes. “Sorry. It was the first thing I could think of.”
Ada laughs again.
Leon says in a normal volume, “We’re in a government facility. They want me to work for them.
That gets a reaction out of her. “ What ?”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t have a choice. They said they’d do tests on Sherry if I didn’t,” he says.
Ada softens.
“I’ll get you out of this. I promise,” he adds in a whisper.
Ada reaches out and brushes Leon’s hair from his face.
“Thank you,” she breathes.
“I’m sorry,” Leon says again.
Ada cups his cheek. Leon forgets to breathe for a moment, before he remembers she’s only doing it for the cameras. He sighs softly and sits up to get out of bed. Ada grabs his hand again.
“Stay,” she says. “Please.”
Leon nods. “Okay.”
He lays back down, draping his arm over her again. She smiles at him again, then yawns.
“Sorry,” she says. “It’s the painkillers.”
Leon nods again. “You should sleep.”
Ada nods, snuggling closer to him and sighing contentedly. Leon figures he might as well sleep too. He really hopes he doesn’t get a boner.
