Chapter Text
━━━━━ IT'S THERE… AGAIN. you sweatdropped, eyes settling on the weird creature perched on the cashier’s shoulder as you placed your items onto the counter.
“will that be all? you usually buy a lot more than this, kid.” the elderly man chuckled, as he placed the loaf of sourdough into a plastic sack.
blinking, you break your focus from the fly like creature on his shoulder and focus your attention back on him, an eyebrow perked up, he recognizes me? you glance back at the creature and then back to him, “i must be quite the regular for you to know that,” you laugh awkwardly, scratching the back of your neck, a nervous tick.
he chuckles once more, “despite how i look, my memory is as strong as a bull,” he hands you the bag and you take it, handing him some cash.
as he sorts the money, you purse your lips. i shouldn’t… you watch as the creature jumps up and down on the elder’s shoulder and you hear him grunt in discomfort.
you mentally curse your conscience before opening your mouth to speak once more, “are you okay?”
the elderly man hummed, “just some stiffness gathering in these weary bones—you’ll understand when you get old and wrinkly like me.”
as he reached out to give you change you moved a hand over his shoulder in a shooing motion. you huffed contently before accepting the coins and giving him a smile, “that should help, see you next time sir!”
before he could utter another word, you bowed a quick thank you and made your way out the convenience store.
hopefully i don't have to find another grocery store…you grimaced at the thought while the fly-like creature from moments before trailed behind.

the sun was beginning to set, the sky turning a pink-hued orange. your eyes softened at the sight as you slowly took a seat on a swing in a nearby park, “it wouldn’t hurt to stay out for a little longer…” you mumbled, soaking in the peaceful moment, that was until an annoying buzzing broke you out of your trance.
your brows furrowed, turning your head to the source, “why are you still here? shoo!” you waved your hand aggressively at the fly-like creature, effectively scaring it to fly away.
you groaned loudly, leaning forward, your head resting in your palms, “how did it end up like this…”
it’s been about a month since you ended up in the world of jujutsu kaisen. you don’t seem to remember a thing about your previous life, friends, family—hell you didn’t even know if you had a lover.
however, despite all this, what you did seem to remember was stumbling upon a series: jujutsu kaisen.
you remember watching the first few episodes before telling yourself you needed to stop but you just couldn’t seem to help yourself. just one more.. you reasoned before binge-watching the entirety of the two seasons along with the movie prequel.
the last thing you remember was the sting of your eyes from eyestrain and crashing exhaustedly onto your bed before being thrust into this not-so foreign universe.
you thought it was a dream at first—your appearance being cartoony but vividly realistic creeped you out—but you soon realized that unfortunately wasn’t the case.
after learning of this, it was hard to come to terms with such an unbelievable situation. would you be stuck forever? how did this even happen…everyday you’d ask yourself the same questions of why you were here and most importantly: what was your purpose?
it made you feel helpless.
a dinging sound broke you out of your thoughts. lifting yourself back upwards, you rummaged through your school bag. “ah..that’s right.” after glancing at the notification, you swiped open the screen and responded promptly before rising from the swing.
you were so caught up in your head you completely forgot about dinner… auntie must be worried.
when you first arrived, she was the first person that was there for you. you were scared, confused, and then suddenly a door creaked open and a familiar scent filled your nose. a woman popped her head through the door, bowl in hand. oyakodon… a sort of savory, earthy aroma filled the air and for some reason, this brought tears to your eyes. the woman laughed, joking about how the thought of her cooking brought you to tears. her smile was warm and although you have no memory of your past life, that moment, it felt like home.
at first, you wondered where the original [name] parents were but you quickly deduced that they were out of the picture, from what you believed was some kind of accident, based on the small things you could grasp from your auntie’s drunken reminiscing.
though she was strange, you’d grown to see her as something like a light in the darkness. she made you feel a little less alone in this weird new world. it took some getting used to but you quickly grew fond of her over the past month. since you’d begun to truly see her as family, it became harder to keep up your facade; everytime she doted on you, you were filled with an overwhelming guilt as you tried your best to play the part of her long gone niece.
CAW CAW..!
a murder of crows circled above as the sky burned slowly to dusk. you jogged briskly down the sidewalk, clutching your bag tightly, a shiver running down your spine as the cool night air nipped at your bare skin.
you hated being out at night–after the mistake of buying a midnight snack and being followed endlessly by several creepy misshapen creatures in an empty alleyway–you learned it was best to avoid it.
you eyed your surroundings before summoning one of your cursed spirits, “it’ll be faster this way..” you reasoned after hearing the musical chime of a bell ringing. with a small gust of wind accompanied by a divine hum, a massive serpentine-like creature appeared at your side. its iridescent pearl scales glowing as you caressed the top of its head, its form coiling loosely around you.
you smiled as the cursed dragon nuzzled into your touch, “shall we–?”
before you could finish, a sudden weight filled the air, something so heavy it felt suffocating. your body tensed, you were used to this by now, with your constant run-ins with curses day in and day out, whether you liked it or not…but this.. no, this was different. this was sinister.
the hairs on the back of your nape stood upright as your eyes frantically searched for the source. your body screamed at you to run but it felt like your legs were made of brick. you mentally cursed yourself and you swung a fist repeatedly against your thigh trying, begging for it to move.
“hey, you.”
you froze at the sound of footsteps approaching. the street lights flickered before revealing a man of unsettling beauty. his hair was the color of ash– his eyes shone a strange heterochromia of blue and grey shimmering with a sort of playful malice. at first glance his features were soft, yet there was something distinctly wrong about him… the way stitches seemed to cover the entirety of his being.
the unknown figure smiled; it was cruel, the kind of smile that didn’t reach his eyes, but spread like poison over his face.
you felt your breath hitch in your throat as the recognition hit. mahito.
“fuck my life.”
