Chapter Text
Gabby and Grett were walking around the mall, looking at some stores for Christmas presents. Gabby was currently looking at a teddy bear displayed in one of the toy store's windows.
"Look Grett, a cute teddy bear!" She exclaimed excitedly, pointing at it. "I wonder if Ellie would like him? She loves stuffies!!"
Grett was trailing behind, multiple shopping bags in hands. She allowed her best friend to drag her around, constantly stopping at store to store in search for the perfect (emphasis on perfect) gift for Ellie. Gabby wants to make sure that her girlfriend has the BEST Christmas ever despite being stuck in debt and always facing stress when it comes with her job.
"Oh, but then again, Ellie already has so many..." Gabby said, a bit defeated. "Another one would just add to the ever-growing collection..."
Grett watched as Gabby went through so many different emotions, clearly conflicted over finding that perfect present.
"Do you want me to be honest with you, Gabs?" She asked as she placed a hand on the Polish woman's shoulder. "Ellie would love ANYTHING you give her for Christmas. Just because it came from you. You could probably wrap a rock from your backyard and she would still love it!"
That got a chuckle out of Gabby. "You're right, Grett. I just... want Ellie to have a great Christmas is all... She does so much for us, and I want to return the favor."
"And you will!" Grett said. "You're being a terrific girlfriend and that's more than enough. And that's why I'm here! We'll find the perfect gift to get for her together!"
The corner of Gabby's mouth curved into a small smile. "Thank you, bestie." She said, grabbing one of her friend's arms and interlocking them together. "Now, let's go Christmas shopping!"
The two women continued to walk through the shopping mall, weaving through the crowds of people trying to do their shopping as well. Some children passed by, begging their parents to buy them a toy or two. They soon pass by an arts and crafts store. Gabby saw a sign for a "make-your-own necklace for just half-off!" She suddenly tugs on Grett's arm.
"GRETT!!" She squealed with excitement. "I FOUND IT!! I FOUND THE PERFECT GIFT!!"
Ellie had been working overtime to make some extra money for her and Gabby. She was finally able to clock out and head home to their apartment. As she steps inside, she's immediately greeted by Gabby, who instantly ran up to her, hugging her and planting a kiss on her cheek.
"Welcome home, Ellie!!" Gabby exclaimed gleefully. "I missed you, so, so, so much!"
"It's great to see you too, Gabs." The ginger haired woman said, a warm smile on her face. "How was shopping with Grett?"
"Great!!" She replied. "We found the perfect gift for you!!"
"Oh really?" Ellie said, her interest peaked. "And what would that be, exactly?"
"Wait here!! I'll go get it for you!" Gabby giggled in response, leaving her girlfriend alone in their living room as she rushed into their bedroom.
Ellie took the time to remove her jacket and hung it up before she sat down on the couch, waiting for Gabby to come back. While it was a bit strange to receive her present NOW instead of just waiting until Christmas Day, she knew her girlfriend could hardly contain her excitement when it came to giving her gifts from the heart.
Seconds later, Gabby came back holding a rectangular box in her hands, wrapped in a beautiful red bow. She walked over and sat down on the couch, holding the gift out for her.
"Grett and I worked really hard on this present! I think you're REALLY gonna like it!!" Gabby beamed.
Ellie reached out and took the box, placing it on her lap and carefully began to unwrap it. Once the ribbon was off, she lifted the lid off, her eyes immediately going wide as she was met with a beautiful handmade necklace with tiny round beads all in her favorite colors. In the center was a gorgeous light blue gem with the initials "E" and "G" on it.
"Holy shit..." She gasped, carefully lifting it up out of the box.
"That's not all! Flip it over!"
Ellie did as she was told, flipping the gem over and saw that it had a small inscription on the back of it.
"To my Ellie, my one and only. Merry Christmas, Love Gabby."
"Oh my god..." She muttered, her eyes filled with awe. She was so amazed by the craftsmanship and the time and effort Gabby and Grett put into it. She was also surprised that Grett helped out on the gift, given their complicated history.
"Do you like it??" Gabby asked, leaning against her girlfriend and eagerly waiting for her response.
"Like it? I love it, Gabs." Ellie responded, gently wrapping her girlfriend in a warm embrace. "It's beautiful."
"I knew you'd like it!" Gabby exclaimed, snuggling herself in Ellie's arms. "Merry early Christmas, Ellie."
"Merry early Christmas to you too, Gabs." Ellie mumbled back, gently rubbing Gabby's back.
The two girls sat in comfortable silence. Soft Christmas music played in the background as they cuddled together. Gabby placed the homemade necklace around Ellie's neck, the gem sparkling in the light.
As Ellie held her girlfriend tight, she couldn't help but feel so loved and grateful. Both Gabby and Grett, despite their differences and complex history, both came together to make an amazing gift that she would always love and cherish for as long as she lived.
