The cold air stings against my cheeks, how many days has it been since I left? 3? 4? It doesn't matter, my ears burn harder as I rush into the wind. I came out here for one reason, and one reason only. The night that I left, I saw it. Shimmering, glowing as it streaked across the sky. A falling star, I saw it when it crashed into the woods, Abandoning it's place in space to fall. I have to find it, stars are beautiful, they give me closure and comfort when nothing else would. No matter what they’re behind, they're still always there. I shuffle through the wet grass, speckles of dew dripping onto my shoes. I look up at the tree's above me. If anything can heal this, it's a fallen star.
Heal what? Are you even paying attention to the story? Years ago, i had a brother. I loved him, he hated me. One day I walk into his room.. and he jumps out the window. The pain of that gave me a curse. Or a blessing if your lonely.
'What're we thinking about?' A voice pipes inside my head, a familiar one at that. 'Nothing, I'm recounting our Backstory.'
'Can I do my part?'
'No you'll make it boring and wei-'
A long long loooong time ago, I split myself! Each and everyone of us chopped off from our original mind, and we don't know how to fuse back!
'MY names Grace! And this sad sack is Spencer!' Grace fills their head with the loud thoughts.
I sigh out loud and truge through more grass and over a log
'You know, you can't just reveal things so fast like that. What about the mystery?' Spencer states without any doubt.
'Mystery is harder to write.' Grace bluntly says
...
So that's how all six of us got stuck in this position. Yes, SIX. It's overwhelming to say the least. I step onto a stick, it makes a resounding CRACK.
'What was that??' Violet yells.
'Don’t worry, it was just a stick' John states.
'Are we there yet? What are we even gonna do If we find it?' Rust questions.
It's true, I don't know if I was even hallucinating. But if anything, I want to find something magical. My whole life I've been begging for something to come save me, convince me it'll be alright, I should at least do the bare minimum.
'I'm hungry, do you think this moss is edible?' Grace's intrusive thoughts creep up.
'For the last time grace, we're not eating moss. Again.' Averey begrudgingly says.
The cold grass pricking my legs suddenly gives away, a trail of destruction streaks through the forest. This must be it! This has gotta be the star! I run across the path of upturned grass, a failure glow catching my eyes ahead. Slightly implanted in the dirt, a star shaped object, shining like it's still in the sky.
'...WHAT.' Spencer screams.
'I TOLD YOU!!' Averey victory shouts.
This couldn't be real.. did I pass out? I observe the object closer, despite the trail it made.. it seems unfazed. I reach out, grazing along one of the edges.
"Woah.."
I swipe away some of the dirt, the object seems slightly clear, many different colors shining across it only to make way to a new one half a second later. Despite the multitude of colors, it's yellow glow shines through somehow. Like something out of a dream.
I pick it up, it's light. Unnecessarily light. I can see my own reflection inside, but before I can look further.. it glows brighter in my hands, the colors before that were shifting and light solidifying into a clear line. On one side of the star, a striking shade of blue resonates. On the other side, a yellow you would expect from a golden crown.
The voices in my head silence, like for this one moment.. they are one being, one person.
"What...?"
I trace my finger along the line between the colors, the trance it brings pulls me in.
Before I realize it, the setting around me changes. The stars enveloping the forest around me, swallowing all but me whole. The ground underneath me gives away and fades to nothing. I look around.
"What the broken collar bone is going on??"
The air around me warms, as I float. The surrounding sky changes color. The once dark emptiness surrenders to a vivid blue, as the speckling stars shine into a glorious yellow. Then..
I fade into unconsciousness.
