Work Text:
As he handed the hero suit to Deku he waited for what he expected would be his reaction. Deku grabbed the package from Bakugo his hands shaking as he held onto it. He looked up into those crimson eyes and smiled tears welling up in his eyes.
“I did say I would be on your heels for the rest of our lives.” Bakugo said his gruff voice softer than usual as he extended his hand out to deku with a grin.
Deku grabbed his hand and then they were off.

As Deku walked into his classroom he set his briefcase on his desk. But when he turned to face his class they all held wide grins. He returned but it wasn't until Kota spoke up he realized.
“Behind you, sensei.” He says with a little gesture for Deku to turn around.
Deku turned around and tears immediately welled up in his eyes.
On the black board he now faced was big bold letters that read:
Welcome back Deku! Our hero and the world's greatest!
He turned back to his class and smiled and took a breath.
“Did you all do this for me?” He asked, holding back tears as they all shook their heads and smiled.
“We have one more surprise.” One of the students spoke walking to the front of the class and handing him a box.
As he opened the box and the student went back to their seat they all waited for his reaction.
That was the nail in the coffin for Deku as tears rolled down his face as he pulled out a small keychain.
The keychain was his hero name but he looked closer and could see that all his class had added their initials around on it.
“You guys…” He cried looking back at his class and then continued to inspect the keychain.
“It’s so even when you're out being a pro again. You know we’re always cheering you on.” A girl spoke cheerfully from the front row.
He wiped his tears and smiled. He was beyond thankful for his class and their support.
They soon got on with their lesson which seemed to be more toned down. They suspected it was because he was feeling a bit emotional but no one really said anything.

Once classes were over with, Deku stopped by the faculty room to give a quick bye.
“A loud mouth problem child is waiting for you at the gate. I wouldn’t keep him waiting.” Aizawa chimed in and this turned his head and he smiled.
“Kacchan?” Deku asked, making his way out the door and Aizawa simply nodded. As if he knew something Deku didn't.
Once Deku made it out of the building he did in fact see Bakugo leaning against the school gate waiting for him.
“Kacchan!” he called out and waved seeing the man turn to him with a soft smile.
And FLOWERS?!?!
Deku finally made his way a few feet away from Bakugo and glanced at the flowers smiling and tilting his head.
Before he could even say anything Bakugo pushed the flowers to Deku’s chest and turned his head.
“These are for you.” He mumbled, Deku almost not catching the words but smiled and grabbed the flowers.
“Thank you Kacchan.” He looked down at the bouquet he was now holding, vibrant, beautiful flowers.
There was brief silence before Deku noticed that Bakugo held his hand out. It wasn't until Bakugo finally met his emerald green eyes. Deku smiled and grabbed his hand, intertwining their fingers and they made off down the street.
—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As they walked into an all too familiar area, Deku smiled down at their joined hands. Their conversation had been short and the silence comfortable as they made their way to their destination.
Bakugo abruptly stopped and turned to face Deku. With a small genuine smile.
Deku flushed and smiled back at him. The warmth Bakugo’s smile was giving off did not flatter as he began to speak.
“Izuku.” He spoke softly as emerald green eyes met the crimson red ones.
“I know from the moment I couldn't live without you that I would chase you for as long as it took for you to notice.” He took a brief breath and closed his eyes before looking back at Deku.
Deku smiled and didn’t speak. Bakugo had gotten better expressing his emotions since their U.A. years but it still took a lot. Deku was a patient man and he would give all his time to Bakugo.
“I was so upset growing up. It took me a long time to realize that it wasn’t at you but at myself. You have always been so patient and kind. So unwavering in what you believed. For others, for yourself, and for me. You had every right to give up on me and I couldn't have blamed you. I’m surprised even now and beyond grateful to continuously have you in my life.” As Bakugo spoke his voice was soft and low, maintaining eye contact. Deku’s eyes began to swell up with tears and his cheeks hurt from him smiling.
“So in all this time, our time..” He paused looking down for a moment then back at Deku.
“I couldn't have imagined I'll ever get this opportunity to have you always by my side. As my partner, my best friend, and my lover.” He paused again and smiled seeing the soft tears roll down Dekus face. Bringing a hand to wipe his tears and Deku closing his eyes and leaning into his hand.
Deku looked back up at nodding for him to continue with a soft sniffle. And Bakugou smiled and cleared his throat. Blinking a few times to not let his tears fall.
“This river,” he said, turning his head to look at the stream they had been standing next to with a log above it reaching their heads.
He held Deku’s hand as he led him into the water rushing at their feet and he continued speaking.
“This river is where I first thought you were someone weaker than me. Its also the first time I was scared that you could outrun me. It’s also a place where I accepted that I never should've let go of your hand, that you shouldn't have been reaching out to me. It feels silly now that in quite literal death that moment is all I could think about. Taking your hand.” Bakugo spoke the last words softly as he smiled at Deku.
Watching his feature closely as he let go of his hand and slowly got down on one knee. The water soaking his pants but he could care less about that and more about watching the expression of the man he loved.
Deku’s eyes grew wide and covered his mouth with his hand as his smile grew even wider.
“So Izuku, will you let me take your hand once more, will you allow me to chase you for the rest of our lives and even beyond that. Izuku Midoriya will you marry me?” Bakugo held out a velvet green box and inside was a simple gold band with two engraved stars.
Deku burst into tears and wrapped his arms around Bakugo’s neck and his words almost incoherent for Bakugo to understand without the nodding.
“Yes yes yes I’ll marry you!” He shouted and leaned back to look at Bakugo.
They were both soaked on their bottom halves but neither cared. Bakugo took the ring out of the bus and slowly slipped it onto Deku’s ring finger.
They moved together and shared a deep kiss. All the words they have ever spoken, any regret they held onto, any unspoken and spoken promise. It bled into this kiss and when they finally pulled apart. There left two smiling idiots sitting in a river. Hopelessly and unfathomably in love with each other.
