Chapter 1: Actions Speak Louder

Chapter Text

The soft hum of conversation and clinking of dishes filled the small diner, a comforting backdrop to their usual date. The familiar smell of greasy fries and freshly brewed coffee lingered in the air, but it barely reached her senses. She sat across from her girlfriend in their usual booth, her fingers lightly tapping against the worn tabletop, eyes distant. There was a tension between them—unspoken, heavy. One of them was lost in her thoughts, visibly troubled, while the other couldn’t tear her gaze away, worried. She hated seeing her girlfriend shut her out, battling something alone.

The strawberry blonde then suddenly speaks, putting the train of thoughts to a halt on the other, "Are you okay?" she asked, a look of concern on her face as she reached her hand out to rest on top of the other's. Her thumb absentmindedly brushed across her girlfriend's knuckles, a small but comforting gesture that said more than words could.

"I'm fine, just insanely tired." The girl replied, avoiding the gaze of her girlfriend who sat across of her but she couldn't help but feel a wave of comfort go through her as she felt the gentle hand on her's. She didn't want to burden her girlfriend, but the weight of it all was becoming too much. As their fingers intertwined, a part of her finally let go.

She spoke up about her problem. Opening it up and letting it all out as her girlfriend intertwined their fingers together. Her silver, silky strands of hair loose as she put her head down, the other immediately tucking the hair behind her ear gently. She listened, let all the emotions flow out and just.. listened.

Once the girl finished expressing what she felt, her girlfriend spoke up, "It's going to be all right. I.. I may not solve all your problems but I'll make sure you won't have to face them alone, okay?"

The girl looked up at them, losing herself in those eyes that showed genuine concern for her. Those beautiful pink pools that drowned her but not wanting to be saved. The scent of freshly brewed coffee lingered in the air, but all she could focus on was the warmth of her girlfriend's hand against hers.

She was brought back to her senses as

She felt the warmth of her girlfriend’s hand, the soft pressure grounding her as she finally allowed herself to breathe. A quiet surrender echoed in her voice. "Yeah... okay."

The other girl smiled softly, her lips curling up just enough to show warmth and understanding. Her eyes, though filled with concern, held a gentle spark that reassured her. It was the kind of smile that spoke volumes—one that said, 'I'm here, and I'm not going anywhere,' without needing words."

She let her thumb brush softly over her girlfriend’s knuckles, her voice barely more than a whisper but heavy with meaning.

"I love you,"

"I love you more."
