Work Text:

The phone has been ringing for what felt like ten minutes now and Reid was still nowhere to be seen. You don’t call someone over and over unless it’s important, Morgan decided, picking up the phone.
“Spencer Reid’s desk.”
“Hi, um, is he there? I really need to talk to him.” A young woman’s voice. Morgan looked around to avail.
“He’s not here right now, but I can take a message.” The woman on the other line sighed and muttered something under her breath.
“Okay, can you tell I’m really sorry and I’m gonna have to drop off June to him? My boyfriend's car broke down and I need to go pick him up. Please tell him I’m really sorry.”
Morgan sat down on Reid’s desk, pulling the phone away from his ear. He didn’t know anyone named June. Reid would’ve mentioned her. Still holding the phone, He leaned across to the next desk.
“Prentiss, come here, you’ve gotta hear this.” He clicked the phone onto speaker so they could both hear. “Yeah I’ll make sure to tell him, you can come by Quantico right now, ask someone at reception to take you to the BAU.”
“Okay, I should be there in, like, fifteen minutes. Thank you so much.” There was a click as the young woman hung up and Morgan put the phone down.
“What was that about?” Emily asked him, having missed the first half of the conversation. He looked around before leaning in closer and whispering.
“Someone named June is being dropped off to Reid. He and this girl know each other, and she seemed to think I knew of her too.” Emily thought for a moment.
“Do we know if June is a person? She could be a cat or a dog or some kind of random pet only Reid would have, like, a ferret or something.” She had a point. for all they knew this girl could be dropping off a python.

-

“Reid, you’ve asked for time off this time of year for the last three years and never provided a reason why.” Hotch sat down in his chair across from Reid.
“Because I have a right to privacy.” He argued. “I’m not required to tell you exactly what I'm doing with my time every day.”
“Forgive him for taking an interest in your life,” Rossi said, opening the door to Hotch’s office. “It appears Morgan and Prentiss have.” Reid looked at him with a confused expression before leaving. As he came down the stairs, he was greeted with the question he hoped he’d never be asked.
“Who’s June?” Emily leaned over the railing and smiled.
“Nobody.” He answered quickly. “Why do you ask?”
“Because she’s on her way here.” Morgan was smiling at him too. Reid picked up the phone on his desk and dialed Cara’s cell number.
“Now? Why?” Cara wasn’t picking up. She always picked up. She was probably driving. She was on her way there, after all.
“Her boyfriend's car broke down and she has to pick him up.” Morgan sat down on the desk. “If she’s coming here, you might as well tell us who she is.” Reid fidgeted with his hands. He’d gone three years without them knowing, but it was probably time they did. Luckily for him, he didn’t have time to answer the question.
A little girl with a brown ponytail and green eyes came running towards him.
“Daddy!” she cried out and he lifted her off the ground.
“Hi, June.” He smiled at her. Cara has been following close behind her.
“Again, I’m so sorry.”
“It’s fine, you don’t need to apologise.” Cara thanked him with a nod and quickly left. He put june down in his chair and gestures towards his colleagues . “This is Derek and Emily, they’re my friends.” June waved at them both, smiling with her baby teeth. “This is June.” He took a breath. “My daughter.” Morgan and Emily were both pleasantly surprised.
“She’s definitely better than a ferret.” Emily joked. Morgan laughed and Reid looked at her confused.
“What?”
“Nothing.“

-

JJ walked into the briefing room expecting to find Hotch, but was instead met with a young girl and some colouring books.
“Hi, my name’s Jennifer, what’s your name?” She pulled out a chair and sat next to the girl.”
“June.”
“Do you know where your parents are, June?”
“Yeah, my daddy’s down stairs with his friends, Morgan and Emily. I hope he brings more pencils when he comes back.”
“Right,” JJ laughed softly. “Is your Daddy wearing a purple tie today?” June turned to see Reid through the window to the bullpen before returning to her colouring.
“Yeah.”
“It was nice to meet you, June.” JJ stood up and the little girl smiled at her.

-

“Hey, Spence?” Reid, Morgan, and Emily all turned to JJ. “I just met a little girl upstairs who told me you’re her ‘daddy?’” Reid smiled and sighed.
“June?”
“Uh huh.” He looked down at his hands. “Why didn’t you tell us?”
“I don’t know. I just kinda thought you guys would see me differently and I didn’t want that.”
“We’re definitely seeing you differently,” Morgan laughed and patted him on the shoulder.”
“But in a good way!” Emily added. “In a really good way, Reid.”
“Does Garcia know?” JJ asked. Reid shook his head.
“She CAN NOT be the last to know or we will NEVER hear the end of it.” Morgan said, pulling Reid up the stairs to grab June.

-

“Knock Knock, Baby Girl.” Morgan opened the door gently and Garcia turned around in her chair. “We’ve got a visitor.”
“Say hi, June.” She stepped out from behind her father and waved. Garcia stood up and gasped with excitement.
“Hi, June! My name’s Penelope and I’m guessing this is your dad because you look almost exactly like him.” Reid laughed.
“I think she looks like Austin.”
“Austin?” Morgan questioned. “Wasn’t she that bartender from like, five years ago?”
“Three years, nine months, and twenty-six days.”
“I’m three.” June looked up at her dad
“Almost. Your birthday’s next week. Then you’ll be three.”
“Are you going to have a birthday party?” Garcia asked her.
“Yeah!” She jumped up and down, smiling. “With presents and a blueberry cake and a real life unicorn!”
“Woah,” Reid laughed nervously. “Where are we going to find a unicorn?”
“In a field, Daddy. Duh.”
“Yeah, duh.” Morgan grinned at him.
“How am I supposed to get a unicorn?” Reid whispered.
