Work Text:
The day of the sports festival started relatively normal - or as normal as things can be when Class A is concerned. After being threatened ‘with embarrassment for their failure’ by Monoma, the class headed to the locker rooms to prepare for the big event. Momo had spent most of the morning in her thoughts, exchanging a few words with Iida and Todoroki. She was not yet used to her new classmates or interacting with others her age. Throw in the fact that some of her classmates had already presented well others were waiting to and all the chaos that comes with unmated alphas and omegas - and yeah, saying it was chaotic would be a major understatement; but she didn’t mind. The time separated from her peers allowed Momo to do two things simultaneously.
1: She was able to study those around her. This allowed her to get a sense of who might be a worthy opponent, who she didn’t have to worry about, and these she should be cautious of. Just because she knew of her classmate's quirks, did not mean that she understood all that they were capable of. Take the USJ incident for example: Momo originally went into battle thinking that she and her classmates would probably be killed or greatly injured by the swarm of villains they were up against. But by some miracle, they were able to overcome and succeed with minimal injuries (Midoriya not included).
Momo was thrilled by the opportunity to see her classmates, and the rest of UA students, up close and personal.
And the other reason… while.
It wasn’t until after USJ that Momo discovered that she had a crush on one Jiro Kyoka. She knew it was crazy and that her family might not accept it if anything were to come of it, but Momo could not help herself from watching, staring, and studying the smaller girl every chance she got. It wasn’t the processing that she was doing with the other students (not that she didn’t think that Jiro could be a dangerous opponent), Momo just worried that her purple-haired beauty might fall into harm and Momo was determined to protect her if possible.
+++++
The first obstacle of the festival went about as well as Momo expected. She had managed to create many different (small) items to help give her an edge over the others without fully depleting her lipids. All she wanted to do was finish in the top 50 and she’d been successful. After catching her breath, Momo looked at the projector announcing who had earned a spot in the second course and was both anxious and proud to see Jiro’s name. In all the madness of the obstacle course, Momo had lost sight of Jiro quite early and could do nothing but pray for her well-being.
Now she found herself scanning the crowd of winners looking for Jiro. It was no surprise that all of Class A had managed to advance if she thought about it logically - after everything that they’d been through, her class had learned that hesitation meant death.
Her eyes scanned the crowd for only a few seconds before her gaze landed on the object of her desire. Jiro looked radiant with her hair wet with sweat making the color appear more vibrant. The hearing hero had her hands pressed to her knees as she bent down slightly in an attempt to catch her breath. It was times like these when Momo had to fight off her instinct to comfort the older girl - take her into her arms and soothe her. It was not a feeling that she was assumed to have and only seemed to apply to this girl which Momo found peculiar. Not for the first time, Momo’s thoughts were interrupted by Midnight sensi stepping up to the microphone to announce the next event - a cavalry battle.
+++++
If the first task went well then the second one was a (pardon) shit show. Momo had agreed to team up with Todoroki, Iida, and Kaminari. Momo soon learned that Shoto and Iida had one thought in mind: beat Midoriya at any cost to prove “their superiority” over the poor guy. Momo found herself shaking her head, slightly - she would never understand the male mind. Nevertheless, she banded together with her team in an attempt to collect the 1 million point headband.
Meanwhile, Momo found her focus splitting occasionally. She wanted to help her team win and advance to the solo fights and prove her worth to the pro heroes in attendance for a chance to be recognized and respected, but she also couldn’t help but worry about Jiro. Between Shoto, Iida, and Bakugo this event was shaping up to be quite brutal. Momo couldn’t imagine that the Professors of UA anticipating this much contact for this challenge, yet everyone seemed to have collectively said, “fuck it”.
Yet again, however, Mom was unable to keep as close an eye on Jiro as she would have liked and it wasn’t until the end when Shoto and Iida were grinning broadly over their win that she was able to see what became of the older girl. Jiro’s team had managed to avoid most of the chaos and scored enough points to advance. Once again, Momo found herself torn and sent up a silent prayer that Jiro would not have to face off against Bakugo.
+++++
When Momo sent up her prayer, she should have included herself in the exception because now she found herself standing on the other side of the area staring straight at Jiro trying to figure out how she was going to beat her without causing her any harm/pain.
Momo sighed and prepared to make a shield as the battle was called to begin.
She would just apologize to the punk rocker later - after she won.

Holy fuck today was a crazy day!
Jiro found herself jumping from the pot straight into the fire.
So far, she’d managed to do just enough to make it to the final round. How did she do that? Hell, even she wasn’t completely sure. Call it luck or intuition but she knew which ways to go and who to avoid during the first two parts of the festival. Her stamina and strength had increased a lot since the start of the school yet and all the bullshit that her class had gone through only added to her survival instincts.
The first round was easy. Run and climb as fast as possible while also being light on your feet or smart enough to avoid the traps. Jiro managed to always keep someone in from of her as cannon farther without straying too far from the front of the pack. While during the cavalry battle, she’d wisely chosen to team up with the stealthiest t members of her class. Their plan was simple, use their quirks to stay as (pun intended) invisible as possible to collect as many bands as possible without letting the others too close. They didn’t bother going after Midoriya like everyone else seemed to want to. Her, Shoji, Tsu, and Hagakure agreed that that would be like trying to go for the cornucopia in the Hunger Games right after you step off the podium. Instead, they stayed on the outside and attacked those too distracted/stupid enough to come near - and it worked.
Now she found herself wishing that she’d been eliminated early on; because what are the fucking odds that she would find herself in the final 10 having to go up against Yaoyorozu - or more appropriately named: the only girl that could make Jiro weak in the knees OR a literal goddess on earth. There was no way that she could focus well enough to fight her! Not only was Yaoyorozu taller, but Jiro suspected that the creation hero was also stronger and a likely candidate to present as an Alpha when her time came. Jiro already knew that there was a very high chance that she would be an Omega which just made this matchup a thousand times worse.
She forced herself to stop thinking so negatively about herself and the situation. Just because Yaoyorozu MIGHT be stronger and a future Alpha did not mean that Jiro MIGHT not be able to win this match. She could potentially find a weak spot in the taller girl's defense and use that to overwhelm/overpower her.
Yeah, that’s what I’ll do! She thought to herself as the match began.
Jiro took one last deep breath to calm her nerves as she prepared to fight her own version of Goliath.
+++++
The fight was going well so far, Momo had to admit. Jiro was proving to be a very capable fighter. The smaller girl used her smaller frame and added agility to land multiple blows all over Momo’s body. They weren’t super painful and nothing that would leave a permanent mark but they would/might bruise which surprised her: she didn’t know little Jiro had it in her!
They danced around each other for a few minutes - both using their quirks to get as many hits in as possible. Both tried to keep their distance and avoid doing too much harm. And they might have continued that way for the rest of the day had that not been the moment that Momo’s body had decided to betray her.
One minute she was using her shield to fend off one of Jiro’s jacks and the next, she found herself jerking forward and landing on one knee as pain racked her body causing her to go down onto a knee. The pain wasn’t terrible but it was sudden which is why Momo had reacted so strongly. Her body was mostly hot; extremely hot and she was sweating. Sweat ran down her face, obscuring her vision and she was sure that Jiro would take that opportunity to push her out of bounds to win the battle. Instead, Momo used her forearm to wipe some of the sweat from her face and watched as Jiro started to run towards her, concern evident on her face. Momo couldn’t wait for Jiro’s embrace, she was sure that it would be one of the best hugs she’d ever received.
Only it never happened.
Midnight sensi immediately made her way to Momo upon seeing her on her knees. Once the X-rated hero approached the young woman, she noticed the signs of a presenting alpha and quickly signaled to the other nearby teachers to help her. Momo had to be escorted to a secure location where she had to stay quarantined until the symptoms subsided and she was in full control of her cognitive functions. The matter had to be dealt with swiftly and delicately - no one wanted to upset a newly presented alpha.
Around the time that Jiro began to make her way to Momo, Midnight had already coped the black-haired girl up into her arms. As an Alpha herself, Midnight was one of the few people who could interact with the girl. Once Momo was set up in the room adjacent to the nurse's office, Midnight would ask Mina to watch over the girl.
Hagakure managed to grab Jiro by the wrist to stop her advancement and leaned in to whisper to her (assumingly) what was happening.
The last thing Momo saw before Midnight’s quirk put her to sleep was the slump of Jiro’s shoulders and what appeared to be a tear in her eye. The scent of tea and honey filled her nose.

3 days.
It had been 3 days since Jiro had seen Yaoyorozu and she was starting to go batshit.
It had all happened so fast that Jiro felt like something had been ripped away from her. That was when she realized just how vital Yaoyorozu had become in her life. She was so used to seeing her beautiful face every day, listening to her voice when she answered one of the teacher's questions in class, or watching her improve her quirk usage. Now Jiro felt lost, and nothing, not even music could soothe her restless spirit.
She had been forbidden from going to visit her crush but had managed to make Mina swear to gather as much information about Yaoyorozu’s condition. Did she get a lot of shit from Mina about it? Yes, but she didn’t care. Yaoyorozu was more important than her stupid image.
Thankfully it was on this 3rd day that Yaoyorozu made her grand entrance back to class and Jiro found herself unable to look away as she struggled to pick her jaw up from the floor. Yaoyorozu was an absolute vision. She’d always been beautiful - but now; now it was like someone took her previous looks and multiplied them by a million. Creati seemed to be a little taller, had a commanding aurora that surrounded her that wasn’t there before, and was obviously stronger. The muscles on her arms and legs were more pronounced - she looked like a fierce Amazon warrior and Jiro had to resist the urge to worship at her feet.
+++++
Mom had never felt more powerful than she did when she walked through the doors of Heights Alliance and saw the stary-eyed look that Jiro was giving her. She knew that her body had changed somewhat but she hadn’t wanted to waste another moment without seeing the girl who had filled her thoughts the past few days.
The process for Momo (and other alphas) wasn’t that difficult. It wasn’t painful so much as just uncomfortable. She felt as though her entire body was on fire for a while before the sensation changed to what she could only describe as the feeling of being incredibly itchy all over. Her eyesight became stronger, her hearing sharper, and physically she felt as though she could fight a bear. Her body felt heavier with the addition of the new muscles that she’d developed practically overnight. Momo Yaoyorozu was now an Alpha.
But not of that mattered as Momo felt the weight of the smaller girls body crash into hers upon her return. Jiro had never looked more beautiful and fragile to her in that moment as Momo held her close and stroked her soft hair as Jiro’s tears soaked through her UA gym shirt.
“Yoamomo! Oh my god. I’m so happy that you’re okay,” pause. “You are okay, right?”
Momo heard the quiet statement and question that was muttered into her neck. She suppressed a shudder at the feeling of the older girl's hot breath against her neck.
“A-ah, yes,” She finally managed after a moment to clear the dryness from her throat. “I can assure you that I am perfectly fine, Jiro.”
“Kyoka.”
The alpha felt her breath catch.
“I’m sorry?”
Momo NEEDED to be sure that she’d heard her crush correctly.
Jiro pulled away long enough to look into Momo’s eyes.
“I said that you can call me Kyoka.” She had a shy smile on her face and her cheeks were dusted with a pale blush.
“Oh,” Momo blushed as well but maintained eye contact. “Then you can call me Momo.”
“I’m so glad that you’re back Momo. I-i missed you.”
It was at that moment, while staring into Jiro’s - ah- Kyoka’s eyes that Momo knew, for sure, that she was absolutely in love with the woman in her arms. The deep violet eyes stared at her with a mixture of awe, concern, and something else that Momo couldn’t quite decipher. Momo pulled Kyoka in once again, needing to feel that full-body connection and the complete comfort that only the puck rocker could bring her.
“I missed you too, Kyoka.”
She felt Kyoka shiver and vowed to never let anyone or anything harm the woman that she loved. Momo swore that she would use the full extent of her newfound Alpha powers to always keep Kyoka Jiro safe.
And, maybe just maybe she prayed, that one day Kyoka may find a way to love her back.
