Lumine knew some truths of the world. Life was never guaranteed and should never be taken for granted. To live, one needed food, water, shelter, and a reason.
To fulfill the list of necessities, was a lie permitted?
She pressed the boy's limp hand against her cheek. Death would be merciful.
Was it a sin to ignore the truth so someone might live?
“There are so many wonderful things in this world.” Her fingers traced along the face of the mask, its bearer’s empty eyes boring into her. “One day, I’ll show you, Caribert.”
She wouldn’t ask for absolution. Never.
