Viktor stared at the clock waiting for the bell to ring when he counted the final seconds “1.2.3..” Finally, he heard the sweet sounds of the bell ringing out, he immediately packed his notebook and pencil into his bookbag stood up grabbed his cane, and started his way to his next period. Viktor wasn't necessarily eager to get to 2nd period but it was more about how he hated his 1st period. It was full of rude, loud kids who never knew how to stop talking. I mean it’s Art, how much talking does someone need to do? Besides, with his limp and the crowded halls, he needed as much time as possible to get to class. As he was walking into Heimerdinger’s Bio class he almost bumped into the door. Viktor kept getting lost in his thoughts lately which wasn’t out of character but more so annoying than anything. Viktor walked to his usual seat, it was in the back but still had a clear line of vision for the board, and as he was unpacking his folder and pencils Heimerdinger jolted awake. He appeared to have fallen asleep in the quick moment between his 1st and 2nd block. Heimerdinger opened his eyes and looked around till his eyes landed on Viktor he smiled and then spoke.
“Ahh Viktor! Don’t get too comfortable, we have new seating arrangements!” Viktor looked around annoyed. His seat is fine now, why change? He sighed and then spoke,
“Mr.Heimerdinger sir with all respect I like my seat” Heimerdinger now looking down at his papers on his desk, giggled to himself while responding to Viktor,
“I’m sure you do! But I have these freshman students in another class and while they were sitting together they broke three microscopes! In one Period I might add! That’s a record! And so I had to change the seats in that class mine as well change it for all.” He paused, then reached for the remote for the projector and changed the projection to the new seats. And he spoke one more time,
“All right there we go, go ahead and look for your name!” Viktor sighed once more and scanned for his name, there it was, right next to… Jayce Talis? Really of all people, Viktor thought as he packed up and walked for his new seat. I mean it could be worse but still, Jayce? Viktor sat down in the uncomfortable chair started unpacking and continued thinking to himself. It’s not that he particularly had a problem with him but he was just very.. noticeable? Maybe that was the word he was thinking of, Jayce is a straight-A student, football player, president of the engineering club, vice president of the student council, and his girlfriend's president of the student council I mean how more obnoxious could he be? That was the word he was searching for earlier, obnoxious. Viktor looked up to the door and started seeing the kids come into class slowly and surely groaning as they saw the new seats put up on the board. Viktor kept looking at the door waiting for Jayce and Mel to come in hand and hand. When finally they did. Well, they weren’t hand and hand like Viktor expected, it was somehow worse. Mel was clinging to Jayce’s arm as he talked about whatever random thing he was talking about when they finally both noticed the board. Viktor looked at Jayce’s face for a reaction to the new seats. Jayce looked intently at the board when he noticed his name and Viktor’s and for a second Viktor thought his face almost lit up, eyes widened and a slight smile creeped out from Jayce. Jayce whispered something in Mel’s ear and as they were both diverging Mel winked at Jayce. God Viktor thought at least make your flirting subtle. Finally, Jayce reached his seat and once he was settled in the chair to the right of Viktor turned to Viktor and spoke.
“You’re Viktor, right? I’m Jayce!” Viktor looked up from his papers in his folder and saw Jayce waving at him and giving him a soft smile. At first, Viktor thinks about being rude but he has no reason to be impolite so he decides on a simple polite reply.
“Yeah it’s Viktor…” He pauses looking back at his papers attempting to reorganize them and speak, he says “Uh. Nice to meet you” Out of the corner of Viktor's eyes he can see that Jayce smiles wide.
“Yeah, it’s nice to meet you too! No offense to Mel but, Science is not her strong suit, I’m excited to work with someone who actually knows what they are doing” Viktor subtly smiles at this odd comment and decides to try and make conversation with Jayce.
“That’s really kind, but I mean, don’t you want to sit with your girlfriend?” He looks over and sees a blush possibly creeping over Jayce’s face.‘Wow blushing at the mention of having a girlfriend, how childish’ thought Viktor. Jayce coughed and then spoke again.
“Oh well, she’s not my girlfriend.” Viktor raised his eyebrows in shock, is Jayce in denial, dense, or is there simply nothing there he wondered, might as well pry more
“Does she know that?” Viktor asked, Jayce coughed and went ever redder at the question
“Yep definitely, I mean we dated in like what 7th grade? But she is just a friend, I swear”
“Ah well If you say so” Viktor smiled and went back to getting ready for class getting out his warmup and pencil and started thinking once again, genuinely it was so strange to Viktor, Jayce was strange. Viktor couldn’t figure him out, maybe this friendship could turn into an experiment of sorts. Viktor laughed quietly to himself “An experiment”
“Huh,” Jayce said, looking down at Viktor’s papers, leaning in a little too close for Viktor’s comfort causing him to go pink in the cheeks and quickly lean to the left taking his papers with him.
“Ahh, nothing excuse me” Jayce smiled looking at him through the corner of his eyes going back to his work.
“You’re excused,” Jayce said this caused Viktor to laugh quietly once again.
Finally, Heimerdinger stood out of his desk and began to wait for the class to quiet down and Jayce only now got out his warmup paper rushing to write down what was on the board. This was certainly going to be interesting Viktor thought once more.
After Viktor had gotten home he had been looking at the same math problem on his homework for the past hour. It’s not like he couldn’t do it he just kept getting… distracted. He couldn’t stop thinking about what occurred in bio. He just kept thinking about Jayce, well not in a weird way. He was just so fascinated with the idea of him, that he felt the need to learn more about him but at the same time never talk to him again. Even the presence of these ideas confused him. He sat there with his thoughts for another minute trying to make sense of them. He just decided to call Sky, she was his best friend, and his only friend. That fact didn’t bother him it’s not like he ever cared for friendships but he made an exception for Sky. He dialed her number and waited for her to pick up it was only on the second ring when she answered.
“Viktor!! I’m so glad you called, something happened today!!” The excitement in her voice made Viktor chuckle slightly. Her voice put him at ease as he responded
“Yes, surprisingly I have something as well” She raised her eyebrows in shock. The idea of Viktor having something to share was definitely out of the norm to put it lightly. Sky quickly responded nonetheless.
“Well I mean now I have got to know what you have” Viktor kept his eyes on the unchanged math problem and spoke thinking about his words before they came out and steadied them as they did.
“Well, now looking back it is not that interesting but I’ll say it anyway um. You know uhh Jayce Talis right?” Sky snorted and responded sarcastically.
“Ohh no, I’ve never heard that name before” He could hear her roll her eyes through the screen “Yes Viktor, I know who Jayce Talis.” He cleared his throat and then spoke once again.
“Well we got seated together in Heimerdinger’s class and he’s just really strange” There was no response from the other side so Viktor spoke to see if she was still there.
“Uhh Sky?” He then heard movement from Sky’s end, she cleared her throat and then spoke
“So Viktor, to get this straight. You called me to let me know that you now sit with Jayce. That’s correct right?”
“Well when you say it like that” Viktor stuttered as he responded
Sky started to laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation she continued to speak while laughing
“Okay, is there anything else then?”
“Well no but he was just so weird he was like trying to be my friend or something” Viktor sighed after he spoke waiting for Sky to respond
“You ever considered maybe he wanted to just be friends Viktor,” she said blandly
“I guess, maybe I just... Ergh I don't know” Viktor was struggling to figure out the words when Sky spoke
“Or maybe more than friends~~ooooohhh” She voiced in a high-pitched tone similar to the tone of silly things said at recess in elementary school. Viktor laughed then picked up his phone brought the phone close to his lips and spoke
“OKAY, that’s enough I’m hanging up now BYEE” he went to hangup while Sky was laughing and interjected
“Wait noo I was only joking pl-” She was cut off by the sound of Viktor hanging up he laughed again and put his phone down. Well, that was very short Viktor thought, he was only more confused now. Sky was only joking but it made Viktor think, Jayce was considered conventionally attractive but he was not-not dating Mel. Whatever that situation was so confusing. He eventually just went to bed. That math homework never got finished.
