Work Text:
It was the beginning of December, the temperature was starting to get lower, Edgeworth wandered through the streets of the kingdom, his kingdom. His black cape was covering most of his body, making it harder to see his stature, his face was covered by the hood.
He makes his way through the crowded center of the city, bumping into unknowns, dodging running children, and dening commerciants offers, always with his head down. He couldn’t take the risk of being recognized by anyone. No one could know that the King Miles Edgeworth was out of his castle in the night, heading for a tavern in the suburbs, looking for a certain man. When the crowd and commerciants started to dissipate, he knew he was getting close. In the distance he could see the warm yellow lights and hear the loud voices coming from inside the establishment.
He stopped at the front door, taking a deep breath and rethinking all of what he was doing. He took a look at both sides of the road: basically empty, like he was expecting.
He took another deep breath before pushing the door open, being welcomed by the warmth of the candles and people and the strong smell of alcoholic beverages. He breathed the thick air and walked to the counter, asking for a beer, and after the lady served him, he looked around, taking the views of all types of people, but stopping his gaze at a specific man. He would recognize that man anywhere, even at the end of the world. He was sitting alone, repeatedly shuffling a deck of cards. Perfect.
He headed towards the man, who just raised his eyes to the hooded figure in front of him.
Phoenix discreetly tried to see the man’s face, not succeeding.
– Hmm, hey.
I raised my head and looked him directly in the eyes. Mismatched blue and brown at deep gray. Phoenix’s eyes widened, and only a whisper came out of his mouth.
– Miles…?
Lord, I no longer believe in anything but the way he holds my name between his teeth.
– Hello, Phoenix.
– What are you- I mean how- What are you doing here?
– I came to see you.
I took a seat at his side, I was trying to look tranquil, but I was dying to touch him. I was dying to be close.
He leaned close, his voice nothing more than a whisper.
– You know it’s dangerous. If someone caught yo-
– I know. – I stopped him, I didn’t want to hear what I already knew. – I just… – I took a sip of my beer, the strong taste going down tearing my through. I really didn’t enjoy beer that much.
– I just missed you – I said, hiding my mouth behind the glass, voice barely a whisper.
But he heard. Of course he heard.
He leaned back at his seat, with that irritating smile on his face. Some time ago, I would say I want to take that smile off his face with a punch, now I would want to catch that smile with my lips.
– Oh, really… So I think I have to help you cure this longing.
I blushed slightly, and lightly hit my feet at his shin.
– Everything for my king, no?
– Don’t call me that in public, you moron.
He laughed. God, I missed this laugh so much.
– I will get a room for us.
We both got up, both beers forgotten at the table, he talked with that same lady, and we headed to a room.
He closed the door behind us and I pushed him to a wall.
I kissed Phoenix Wright like I needed that to live.
