Chapter Text
If Trina Robinson were to give one word for her relationship with Spencer Cassadine, it would be history.
It’s not the normal boy meets girl scenario and it took off from there. No, no. Spencer Cassadine and Trina Robinson have known each other since she was seven and he was nine years old. You could have sworn Spencer hung the moon and stars because that is how she looked at him every day since they met. Nikolas and Courtney Cassadine as well as Portia Robinson and Marcus Taggert always used to joke around with each other.
“You know they are going to end up getting married, don’t you?”
Growing up together came with little things that only the two of them would understand and he wasn’t afraid to let the entire world know it.
“Do you remember that old tree house we built when we were kids? We would spend all day there if we could.” Spencer said
“Your memories of the treehouse seem to be a little different from mine because I remember every time we were both in that thing, you would threaten to beat me up because you were bigger than me but thank god you never did.” Trina chimed in. “I remember I dared you to kiss me but you ran away when you tried.” Spencer told her, giving her a playful nudge.
Little did she know, Spencer vowed to never hurt Trina. He was too in love with her to do that but she didn’t know and even if she did, she never reciprocated the same feelings. As long as she was in his life, he would take her any way that he could.
He wasn’t sure when the feelings started to come to the surface. All he knew was he was 18 and Trina was 16 and she wasn’t this little girl anymore. The duo’s fathers didn’t believe that they were really falling in love, truly but oh their mothers could see it. The only thing Spencer cared for was her. If he had Trina beside him, they could face anything.
Getting older allowed Trina more access and understanding to what was going on in her own family. It was revealed by no fault of her own that her mother had been unfaithful to her father and her picture perfect family would never be the same.
Getting older gave Spencer more freedom away from his family. He was 18 after all. An adult. He was able to see a side of the family that had been kept hidden all these years.
“Can I come see you? I really need you right now.”
In their ever changing personal lives, they both knew their safe places were with each other and their relationship would change for the better sooner than they thought.
When he arrived, he was alone. Waiting. Watching. Preparing. He wasn’t sure how this conversation was going to go. All he could do was hope. Hope that this night was going to work in his favor. Hope that he would be in a new place with her. A place that he has been wanting to be as long as he can remember but as he was notified of her presence taking the next step in their relationship was put on the back burner when he noticed her eyes lined with tears. “Oh, sweet girl, come here.”
Trina welcomed the invite and fell straight into his chest. Her home. Once he saw that she was calm enough, he spoke “Do you wanna talk about it?” “Not really but I know I should.” “It’s up to you. You needed me and I’m here. I’m following your lead.”
“Mom has been lying to me. I’m not even sure if it’s even meant to be considered a lie but she was keeping things from me. Things I should have known and now I don’t know if I can see her the same way.”
“I know how close you are to your parents, but specifically your mom. It’s something I’ve envied our entire lives.”
“Oh come on! Nikolas and Courtney are the definition of picture-perfect.”
“Trina, you only see what they want you to. I can see it, even when they think I don’t. They aren’t in love, not really. The only thing that keeps them together is me. I know who my Dad’s true love is and because of that, so do I.”
Trina’s heart dropped to her stomach. He’s in love? Why was I not told? I’ve known Spencer my entire life. He knows everything about me. I thought he knew he could tell me anything. First my mom and now my best friend.
“It was a mistake for me to come here. I’ll see you later, Spencer.”
She can’t leave like this.
“Trina, wait! Please.”
“Why should I? I come to you heartbroken about my family potentially falling apart and you drop a bomb on me about your one true love who by the way you have failed to bring up until right now. You know what? You can go to hell Spencer!”
“Trina Campbell Robinson!”
He hardly ever uses my full name.
The terror in his voice makes her stop dead in her tracks and before she could make her next move, his arms are around her, turning her to face him. She stands frozen solid, a mixture of fear and butterflies to blame. They had never been this close before, physically. “I can see why you are upset with me and that is completely valid because I’m not the best at talking about my feelings so I’m going to make myself perfectly clear.
“The girl that you never knew about? The person that I’m in love with, truly,”
“It’s you, Trina. It’s always ever been you.”
