"Lying's more fun"
"Being lied to, not as much."
House slouched on the couch, his head titled in the direction of the kitchen. He heard water running and all the clanking that was a bit too loud to not he intentional and he knew Wilson is pissed off. Even though House couldn't see the oncologist's face or form from his position, he could clearly imagine how he looks like right now. Eyebrows furrowed, lips pressed tight together and his pretty face twisted into an ugly grimace.
Then House heard sniffing, which added teary eyes to his vision of Wilson. He clicked his tongue, which felt bitter for some reason. He didn't want to let Wilson wash the dishes while crying, he can do it while not doing so. But he'll be damned if he admit to caring just the slightest bit.
Then House heard water running, but no dishes clanking. Which either meant Wilson is desperately trying to split the water bill with House or got distracted.
Greg eventually caves in and grabs his cane, limping his way to the kitchen doorway, leaning against it and looking at Wilson who's wiping at his eyes while the water runs. Wilson is aware House is watching him, of course he is. He just doesn't seem to care.
"You cry like a girl." House spoke up, his tone gruff and sarcastic. "And the water bill is expensive."
Wilson huffs and stops wiping at his eyes just to turn off the water and look at House with a glare. Wilson's big brown eyes are reddish, teary. His cheeks and his nose are lightly red, the corners of his eyes moisty. How adorable.
"You're seriously going to pout?" House spoke again and after a moment he adds, reluctantly. "Fine, I can do the dishes if it'll stop your pathetic weeping."
"It's not about the dishes!" Wilson's voice rang, both sharp and weak. "You're making me miserable."
"I thought you were mad about the dishes." House spoke sarcasticly. He knew damn well Wilson isn't mad about the dishes, not entirely. There's another reason, and he's aware what it is. "I'm not making you miserable, you're miserable because your wife cheated and you're pissy about it."
"Yes, I may be more emotional because of that but you're just making it worse!" Wilson's teary eyes became more prominent. "I'm not expecting you to make me feel better. I kinda did in the beginning, sure. But you made it painfully clear it's not happening, so maybe at least try not make more miserable than I already am, how about that? Is it that hard?"
"Why are you so mad about the cheating thing, you did it plenty of times. Hypocritical, isn't it?" House raises a mocking eyebrow, leaning on his cane.
"I'm not mad about my failed marriage right now, I'm mad at you for lying and making me miserable." Wilson's voice betrayed how much he's trying not to burst in tears right now and he hated it.
"People lie." The words slip past House's tongue, tasting familiar. He adds sarcasticly. "I lie to everyone, Jimmy, you're not special."
Wilson's face turns into that ugly grimace again, both frustrated and hurt. "Of course I'm not. I've been by your side for years, I've been with you at your worse, I had to get you out of all kind of shit. I prefer spending time with you instead of my wives but that means nothing, doesn't it? Because to you I'm just another person to... lie, use, manipulate. I'm an easy target, am I not?"
House rolls his eyes and speaks up, frustrated. "Oh my god, Wils--" He cut himself off when he noticed Wilson turned around and started doing the dishes again. Wilson's hands were slippery as he grabbed the dishes, his chest was heavy, his chin was ever so subtly trembling.
"James." House's voice came out more softer than he would want to, but Wilson didn't respond. He pressed his lips tightly and his tears glimmered in the dim light of the kitchen.
House stood there till he saw the first tear go down Wilson's reddish cheek and his grip on the sponge tightened. Then he sighs inaudibly and limped over to Wilson's side. He put his cane aside, leaning it against the counter and grabbed the cleaned and wet plates, drying them off with a towel. Wilson was passing the dishes to him, till he stopped abruptly.
Wilson turned off the water and turned his body to face House. House's eyes met Wilson's, wandered briefly over his wet cheeks then returned to his eyes.
Wilson's whole face broke, his lips started to tremble and the tears fell smoothly down his cheeks. House found himself hating the sight, missing the pretty smile that he realized he didn't see in a while.
But before he could think too much about it, Wilson took a few steps closer and hugged House. His hands wrapped around Greg's ribs, resting on his back, while his forehead rested on House's shoulder. House didn't move except for grabbing the counter for stability, he stared forward.
It was the moment Wilson let's out a strangled sob which he probably held in for far too long that made House put his hands around Wilson's waist. After a moment, his hand almost subconsciously fell into Wilson's hair, patting them gently. Wilson let himself sob, pathetically so, while making sure not to lean too much weight on House's body.
"Alcohol?" House offered after a while, when Wilson's sobs quieted down. He felt him shake his head against his shoudler. "Sleep?" Then he felt him nod. "Alright, let's go you big baby."
Wilson reluctantly let go of House and wiped his tear stained cherks while House grabbed his cane. House limped his way to the bedroom and Wilson stopped in front of the couch, looking at House. House looked back, his eyes full of silent invitation.
"If you tell anybody, I'm gonna deny it, find dirt on you and spread it across the whole clinic." House said, not sarcastic and not entirely serious.
Wilson smiled a weak smile then followed House into his bedroom. They lied next to each other, both staring at the ceiling.
"I don't want her back." Wilson broke the silence, looking over at House with those puppy eyes. "But it doesn't hurt any less to think it's over. Again."
"It'll pass." House said dismissively but strangely comforting, looking at the ceiling for a while longer before looking at Wilson. "You can lay your head on my chest if you promise not to drool."
Wilson smiles weakly then smirks knowingly. "You do it because you feel bad."
House smirks subtly and rolls his eyes. "I'm doing it with hope you won't wake up early and disturb my beauty sleep with your blow dryer."
Wilson smiles and shakes his head before shifting closer and putting his head on House's chest. He closed his eyes and drifted off, not before muttering "Night, Greg" and hearing "Goodnight, Jimmy."
Wilson fell asleep simply laying on House's form, they woke up tangled together and lied like that for a little longer than necessary.
