Chapter 1: The girl with blue hair in two braided pigtails

Chapter Text

The Soft breeze of the wind, the flutter of butterfly wings, and voices from an elderly couple were all the things you could remember before that day. You woke up irritable as the sun blinded you through the window, curtains set aside forgotten to close them before you lay to sleep last night. You might miss your old life but it's not without a trade. You were only a child back then yet the world already beaten you up for how cruel the real world is. Grunting as you get out of bed and do your morning routines. Your house wasn't bad; it was just on the outskirts between Piltover and Zaun, and you stayed connected to both. The house where you used to stay with your grandparents before they were robbed and murdered in their sleep. You were born a Piltie but rather lived in the middle and not from each other. You experienced a lot and yet none stick to you which city is better because, in the end, both cities only want what's best for their own. But how life can be unfortunately cruel as one city living in a lavish dream while the one under lives in horror and filth.

After your daily meditation, you immediately went to work in your finest clothing like those in Piltover as you are a mortgage consultant and working in one of the heavily secured banks in the city.

By night, you changed wardrobes wearing tight clothing that clad your body like a second skin, heavily armed with various weapons in your person. To complete your mysterious looks, you put on the bandana to cover half of your face from nose to chin and wear your hood then you're out.

You run like the wind, feet light as a feather, and move like a ninja. You've parkour your way through the balconies and rooftops of Piltover's village. Your target? Just one of the rich men out there. Your job? You are a Robin Hood. Stealing from the rich, secret bidding with their children when they caught you and always got away without a trace.

You saw what's like in the undercity if you were born poor and still living poor. There must be wrong with both you as the person and the crooked system both cities have. You bought goods, medicines, and any necessities with the money and brought them house to house in the middle of the night across the poorest, most overviewed streets in the Lanes. Bringing toys and books for kids and some cool entertainment like a deck of cards or boardgames to old folks. It's an everyday routine. Robbing the rich and giving back to the people of Zaun.

As you walk down the streets of the Lanes on your day off, hear children happily playing, and old folks doing other things rather than gamble and pick fights. You heard some of them praising their mysterious hero, how lucky they are to have some kind of saint for them. Yet, nobody ever saw the saint they claimed as their savior. You smile under your hood. Wearing a simple Zaunite outfit with a different hood to avoid being known. You went to the last drop for a drink to lay low as Piltover enforcers were losing their heads about the complaints from those rich men getting robbed. But things are still in your favor as most of them didn't go to report any breaking-in because they knew they should not be caught for their illegal businesses and money laundering.

Sitting in front of the bartender, he already knew you and simply put a glass with your favorite margarita. You nod your head in acknowledgment and drink. Then not one moment passed, and someone sat beside you. 'How bold' No one dares come near you until now.

"Hiya stranger." Your eyes slightly twitch knowing full well who's talking.

"Jinx." You simply say.

"Say, have you heard the cries of those Pilties about their stolen money?"

Rolling your drink in the glass you're holding you scoff. "Oh really? How come they got robbed if they have enforcers around?"

"That's what's on my mind too, Toots! Maybe they were too stupid to put away their cash and just stuff them around their lavish boring and too-bright houses!"

You simply smile and enjoy your drink as you listen to her. She always has so many random things to say but you never get bored, and just enjoy her company.

You really can't forget the day you two met. You were up in the highest buildings in Zaun, legs dangling on the rooftop, reading a book and enjoying your tea. You may no longer live in Piltover but the way you live your life is still gonna stick from time to time before you started to live like a zaunite. You rather enjoy your lonesome than play with kids down the streets as you still navigating your way of living in their world. You felt a swish of wind behind you and were surprised by someone.

"Hiya!"

You just widened your eyes when you saw her. She has blue hair, in two pigtails, a blue top, purple pants, a brown belt around her waist, and dark brown boots. A smile plastered on her round but soft edges face and her eyes were such ocean blue you wanted to get lost in. Then out of the blue, she snaps her fingers in front of you.

"Hey! Stranger. You there? Been talking to you."

"Sorry. Can you repeat what you said?"

"I need some stuff. And I saw this building that has lots of junk. Didn't know I wasn't alone when I got here."

"Oh well, help yourself. People living in this building just left stuff up here."

She clicks her tongue in pure ecstatic. "Don't mind if I do."

She went up and looked for anything useful and left by yourself. Smiling, you continue your peaceful life. Then she returns to your face.

"I'm curious. You don't seem like from here." Eyeing you. "Are you from up there?" She points a finger gesturing the city of Piltover.

"I'm just a wanderer."

"Like you come from other cities? Is there more out there?!"

You slightly close your right eye as she shouts to your face. She scrunched her face when she saw how you react.

"Gee sorry. Anyway, I never asked! What's your name? I'm Jinx. Or that what's Silco called me. I like it anyway."

"A pleasure to meet you, Jinx."

Hearing you saying her name put a wide smile on her baby face. "You got that right. Are you going to give me your name?"

"Why would I give you my name?" You raise a brow, teasing her which earns you a grunt from her.

"Come on, I give mine. You should too."

You chuckle at how expressive she is. One moment she's smiling the next her eyes knitted in annoyance and giving you a small pout. "I'm Y/n."

You almost squinted your eyes from how she beautifully smiled. Her face is beaming all of a sudden. You gave a smile of your own at her antics.

"Well, Y/n. It's nice meeting you but I have to go now. Can't let them know I'm out when I shouldn't." She stood and gave you a small salute as she vanished out of the building.

You chortled with a shake of your head and watched the world once more.

Someone snapping their finger in front of you as you are brought back to the present.

"Hey! Are you still there? How strong is your drink?!" She went to take your drink away from you to observe it herself.

You give her a roll of your eyes and take your drink from her. Which she gave you a face.

"It's just a margarita. I've been talking to you here for the last couple of hours."

"Sorry. Didn't mean to doze off."

She scoffs at your answer. "Am I that boring to you?!"

You gave her an eye raise, "Quite the contrary, I'm enjoying your company. I didn't mean to get lost in thoughts."

She soften her features and just stare at you as if waiting for something to happen.

"Just, sleepless nights working. What were you saying?"

Eyes beam as she got your attention again, she smile.

"Come with me! I'll show you something."

You let her drag you to her hideout, assuming that it is where she tagged you along. You know where it is anyway. Using the secret way you two only know how to get there aside from the main one Silco uses to get himself in or Sevika. But what's the fun of looking like breaking in even though it is her hideout?

She pushes you down to sit on her chair as she tries to get the thing she wants you to see. Patiently waiting, she presents it in your face.

"Tada!" Eyeing in curiosity and wonder, you know too well what is it.

"Hextech orb. So that's you when I heard news of a blown-up building and some of the enforcers died."

"That's me! Come on, at least appreciate the way I did it."

"Yes. They are astonishing. How come you knew where they are hidden anyway."

"Can't tell ya. You might tick me off to the Piltie goons."

"*gasps* I'm wounded. Don't you trust me?" You dramatically put a hand on your chest.

"You still work as a Piltie."

"I need money, and they see my potential. So I worked. But that doesn't mean they owned me."

She scoffs, "Yeah right. I still don't understand why you have to go work there. You can just work here."

"I'm no henchperson or an assassin, not even a fighter. Might as well just use my brain for something."

"You're an inventor too. Y'know."

You gave her a small smile. She's right. But you use your head for something at the matter. You did help her build weapons, but only in terms of what it looks like to build one and not build it the way she does. You're her weapon consultant.

"Lemme guess, another weapon for this thing then?"

"You read my mind, Toots! So, any ideas? I got here this book. Journal? Whatever. And has like instructions and manual."

She showed you the book and it has equations and symbols. Explaining about stuff and the hextech gemstone she got. Unbeknownst to you, she's staring at you as you read and try to understand whatever it is on the pages. It's kinda give you headaches but you still try.

"Found anything interesting? I still have to show this to Silco."

That caught you off guard. Did she show this to you first? And why you suddenly can't breathe?! What the heck?! Your eyes wide as you looked at her.

"What? Don't give me that look. I need someone to check them first."

You averted your eyes and back to the book. Analyzing the equations and absorbing the knowledge you can get. Until you just got irritated because it's making you nauseous. You put the book down, pinch your nose, and squint your eyes to try to relieve the pain. You got surprised with how soft she put her hand on your shoulder.

"Hey? You okay? Ugh. You've been working your ass too hard. Come on, I bet you need some fresh air."

You sigh and let her drag you to wherever. Perhaps a night off being Robin Hood is okay. Besides you rarely got a chance to see Jinx since she's now trying to prove herself as a henchwoman of Silco. Might as well go have some fun. You two parkour your way up through the Lanes and out of Zaun. Of course, she's not Jinx without causing havoc as she passed through the streets and roofs. This girl, honestly.

At your stop, you can hear annoyed people down the city. You two laugh your heads off but you know she had more fun as she did what she could do best. Just near the docks, hidden within the shadows of the forest outskirt Zaun, both of you just admire the night.
